Live by the sword, die by the sword. You want to make a living by racing dirtbikes, better be prepared for the vagaries of those who want to dip into their pockets to make it happen.
I’ll say it again, if the riders or teams don’t like the arrangement they are free to not participate. Can’t be any simpler than that.
I get it, I have watched riders go and represent team USA for 40 years. The riders are doing a job and getting paid to do that job. It is not in there contracts that they have to race if selected to the team and they do not get paid for racing.
Ask your self, my country wants you to fly across the country and do a weeks work for free. Remember your work is extremely dangerous and an injury could leave you unable to do your job when you get back home. This could cost you bonus pay and a huge year end bonus if you were able to meat your works goal. Would you go?
Okay, throw up your hands and accept it. "You'll get nothing and like it." I get it.
Given what it is promoted to be - a once a year contest of nations celebrating the sport - we as a sport can do better by this event, for the sake of the participants - smallest country to largest - who make it what it is. I accept it's a philosophical issue and the real world is not likely to change one bit as long as everyone goes along with it, and fans pressure them to. As you note, guys and teams that don't want to go along with it don't have to.
It's worse than free....most go in the hole and it costs them money to go...and let's not forget about the injury clauses in every contract so if they do get injured they don't get paid....but yeah lets do it for pride hell yes!

DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
And if they get hurt they can't race off season races that pay them or properly prepare for SX.
MXoN is a huge risk for a top American more so than the rest of the GP guys because their season starts 2 months after the US guys.
There were plenty of riders not willing to go when we were winning. Learn your moto history before quoting it friend.
Hymas’ podium goggles had “USA” written in silver sharpie on the lens after his win.
A group of young men that will represent the USA without the side-show and will ride their butts off.
Thats all I care about. Be American, old school American.
Coming from the off-road world where middle class guys spend all their savings and max out credit cards for the honor of racing the ISDE I don’t feel much sympathy when rich guys feel the need to be paid for MXON.
That is exactly what I am talking about. A 450 rider that has the ability to win the SX championship stands to loose over 2 million dollars if they get injured. The 250 rider has the opportunity to ride the east coast so that is not a deal breaker.
Well, well, well....
Donger gets out of representing his country for a fourth time...
Faketriot.
The F1 comparison isn’t really relevant because the teams reimburse their drivers in their contracts. It’s a pretty weird system. The series promoters claim it is there to help the little guys, but I think it’s just a grift so they can get a guaranteed amount of money each year (same number of point totals every year). As greedy as InFront is I’m surprised they haven’t started something similar to charge winning teams more to attend the next year.
I think a guy should at least be a race winner in his class before being expected to be paid start money at an exhibition race that normally doesn’t do that. 0-20, zero laps led.

For the riders who dont want to represent the USA at the MXDN - fuck em!
For those riders who represent the USA at the MXDN - celebrate them and cheer them on at MXDN and also in 2027 SX and MX!!
I like that team. Those three will ride their asses off for sure. I wonder how Kitchen will acclimate to the 450 (assuming he races the open class.)
Pit Row
Which American do you think is gonna win the 2027 450SX championship?
Sexton, Webb, Tomac, Deegan. Roczen finally got it done after many years, so to act like any one of those guys aren’t capable is bananas.
Yeah but are any of them going to MXdN for team USA this year?
The defending champ, Ken Roczen, he's an American citizen!
All years the same discussions, only when MXDN is held in the US,no problem!!
Kawi in need of some good PR so they are back in?
Does anyone have any idea what kind of profit an event like the MXdN is making?
You guys are speaking like one single event is making millions.
What if the bottom line profit is 100k?
They’d only be paying a pittance as there’s such little money to go round.
lol
Seems the Deegandashian’s are searching for a new reason to dodge the Euros.
One Multimillionaire need a go fund me to attend one race for his country.
Eh, lot bigger problems in the world than some dirtbike racers not getting paid for a race.
They make anywhere from 20-30Mil.
Because the factories don’t see enough value from the event to justify footing the bill.
Gueseppe's shakedown mob gets a licensing/sanctioning fee (rumored to be $600k, bit could be way more now),with little to no risk. They normally shake down governments, but in the USA the track owner takes a massive risk (like if it's a mudder and attendance is down), so they could lose a lot of money. I'm sure Davey and his crew get their beak wet as well, and the riders, teams, national sanctioning body, etc. are expected to fund it through tee shirt and bake sales while the Luongo's chill by the pool in Monaco....
