I’m blocking anyone who is dumb enough to believe he’s there to shop for a ride.

Block me. Like Millville, where JT believed he had to be talking with people about other rides,  I believe he talks to a lot of riders, fans, AND team managers. Overtly shopping for rides? No, he’s there to see his moto bros and is a genuine fan. Talking? Of course why not while you are there.

Chase is the most likely American to race GP's since Ryno imo, would be super cool.

Cool to see an American rider visiting MXGP, even if it is just to watch. Onya Chase.

Kawasaki will have a different view when it’s the second rider in two years.  One occurrence they can explain as unique circumstances; twice will establish a pattern they won’t want to be part of.

Ultimately they won’t want a rider that doesn’t want to race for them but my speculation is that Kawi won’t roll over as easily as they did for Prado.  It might cost Chase dearly to exit early.

Agreed. This is not in Chase's hands to decide anything and people ignore Kawasaki's side of things. What incentive is there for Kawi to let Chase walk away after no return on the contract? Chase is damaged goods with unknown value to any other team. Different situation than Prado who kept racing but dogged it expecting he could go back to KTM if things didn't work out. He recently said Kawi wouldn't let him make changes he needed while Chase makes endless changes and crashes a lot. Chase has no recently proven success on another team he could return to and be welcomed with open arms even if he can actually ride like he used to. No way Chase could duplicate what Prado has accomplished by switching.

The incentive is you get out of paying millions of dollars to someone who is making you miserable and not getting you the results you were planning on when you agreed to pay him that much money, and all it costs you is a little bad press.

On one hand you take a PR hit for letting a guy out of his contract for the second year in a row, on the other hand you take a continued PR hit from a top rider hating your bike and under performing on it. Both bad options, but one is way more expensive than the other.

At the end of the day there will be a few people who really don't want to take the ego/PR hit, but there will be far more people at the table who are just looking at the bottom line and are going to be happy to sign off on some agreed upon separation, just like they did with prado. The calculation doesn't drastically change just because it's happening for a second time.

I know this is a bit nit picky but the guy is paid by Kawasaki to race, when he can't race due to injury, he wears a white shirt and not a Kawasaki one ?

Any Sexton thread is a huge WOT, time spent you will never get back.

Guy has his first real off season and travels to go see a good friend. It’s not that serious.

Chase may hate the Kawasaki and be a prima donna, but he ain’t leaving the states just yet.

that's not incentive and he's not a top rider anymore- he's damaged goods until proven otherwise. A better descriptor is letting the inmates run the asylum. Chase has no power here and no cards to play. If I'm Kawi Braintrust, I make it clear to him he needs to get his Dr's clearance when he's recovered enough to ride and show up for work. Stay off socials, no leaked comments, and leave your Daddy at home as he's banned from all interaction with the team and facilities. Get on that new 2027 and show he can at least beat Marchbanks with equal personalization of their bikes.

Otherwise he rides the bench until his contract expires. Time for tough love and maybe retirement.

Well said! I couldn't agree more.

He's getting paid a shit ton of money to race a very capable factory bike. Grow up, leave daddy at home and do your job!

Btw, I'm not  huge Deegan fan, but did you see how he responded when he was asked about his bikes set up last week? Said it was his fault not the team, and it was his job to get it right. But they're working on it. I'm paraphrasing here.

That's a professional answer. Take some responsibility and don't throw the team under the bus! Chase should do the same.

Sexton made it clear he isn’t going to mxgp in the big Lew interview, however it would be cool to see an American go over that could podium and win races.

Yep I agree, for the first time it happened.  If the same thing happens twice - now Kawasaki contracts aren’t worth the paper they’re written on because every rider will think Kawi will roll over at the first hint the rider isn’t happy.

If I were Kawi USA I’d be ok with Chase leaving, but it’s gonna cost him a pretty penny.

Also, if I were KHI I’d be cleaning house at Kawi USA to ensure this clusterfuck never happened again.

Yeah right...

I imagine the conversation like this

Antii: "Chase do you recall the bike you currently dislike at home?"

Chase: "Yeah..."

Antii: "Welp, we got it here too. With unobtanium bling on it."

Chase: "I see..."

Antii: "Would you like to spend next year in Lommel while doing 20 weekends abroad on it. Plus 6 weeks of dutch nationals."

Chase: "...."

Antii: "oh yeah and dont forget to bring your own money because we ain't paying you for shit."

Chase

Your argument is that they won't let him leave and instead will continue paying him millions because he's no longer a top rider, washed up, damaged goods, etc..... think about that for a second. Putting a bunch of demands on him outside of what he's contracted for also not an option.

I never made any such argument. Your comments all seem to come from the perspective of the rider/employee only and are oblivious to rights the other party/employer has under their contract. NONE of us has seen it either, but in any contract each side agrees to certain conditions and obligations. The obvious here is Chase agreed to receive X amount of $ over a specified period of years to ride & race and everything that involves and likely some PR on behalf of Kawasaki. Remember the Hawaii photo shoot announcing him joining the team? Kawasaki agreed to pay him X over the same time frame for performing a list of duties for them related to racing and promoting the brand. That likely includes injury protection too to still get paid if he's hurt working for them. None of us knows if there are escape clauses or early termination penalties, etc. for ending the contract before it's agreed length of service. There may be non-performance clauses or arbitration - who knows?

You can bet Chase doesn't have a get out of jail free clause simply because the bike never "felt" right no matter how many different setups he tried (even changed a WINNING set up for no reason to keep searching for the feels) and it's perfectly legitimate and legal for Kawasaki to expect him to fulfill his signed contract even if he wanted to leave early for any reason. He hasn't said so that I know of but people speculating here that will happen any minute aren't accepting the reality that pushes back against that option. A contract is a contract and neither side is allowed to unilaterally decide to end it early without just cause and agreement from the other party.

My argument is I don't see any logical substantial reason Kawasaki would agree to that and would expect him to fulfill his obligation before moving on.

At some point earlier this year vialle was posting pictures hanging out at Chase's house when chase was off somewhere else racing. Seems like they're pretty close.

I mentioned he was going to the race earlier in the week.  A Ukraine co dragged there feet on a Fri , we had to finish up on Mon. So I bummed around & went to Joliet mx track & watch the riders practice. Some industry guy there said , Chase helicoptered onto sunset ridge track to ride .  It was I between nationals. Everyone says the track has a great flow & it’s close to his house. Probably had to fly to ca. for the buisness end of it & why sit in Chicago traffic. When you want to ride get a helicopter.

Profesh , u ride Joliet mx?

I got there a lot!!

Malin asked him, along the lines of,have  you had a chance to walk around the paddock to speak to the riders and things like that

His reply, urmm, O look at guiser catching up,

Make of that what you want, but he either swerved it, or forgot to comment

Stop your drama accusations. I,d thing he’s doing everything he can to get ideas to fix what he thinks is wrong.  Probably not another 2+ mil deal out there .  If he can’t get the bike to handle right  . I wouldn’t be surprised if he walked away.  Stick & ball guy walk away from 70+ plus  mil contracts. When they get tired of the buisness end of sports entertainment.

Anyone that walks away from a big money deal, has already made wealth for multiple generations.  The list of guys who retire from moto truly never having to work again isn't very big.

I just watched the 2nd Netherlands MXGP moto with Chase Sexton adding commentary to Paul Malin's race call and I would say this.

"Ahhhhhh yeah, so yeah, Chase once you are healed up, ah yeah, don't quit your, ah day job"
