Chase is in the booth on Race Day Live and James asked him about the crash at Lakewood.  He said "I don't know what happened, you will have to ask my team".  He followed that saying he hit the rear brake in the air and then went to get back on the gas and there was nothing there.  Kudos to James for asking and Chase for answering.  Amazing people just talked about what happened.

Kawi needs to respond and take ownership of this.  The hiding of these issues is ridiculous.  @ML512 , any thoughts?  Not saying you should ask, just curious.

The way he laughed and said “you’ll have to ask my team” cracked me up.

Seems to me like all chase wants is for the team to acknowledge what happened and they won't do it. Lars would be publicly flogging himself if same thing happened to one of his guys. Leadership, culture, etc etc....

I had this exact same thought

Lars would be on pulp saying “it was a bummer man but that’s on us”

this whole situation has actually made me an even bigger fan of sexton.

Coupled with the Weimer feedback this year I think Kawi management is wack.

Chase is really good in the booth. He is eloquent, demonstrates humility, knows his motocross history (you can tell he's a student of the sport) and had some great insights. I really enjoyed listening to him. Seems like a good dude.

I agree, but I also think Chase needs to accept some ownership.

Last time I hit my rear brake in the air and went for the throttle and there was nothing there.....it was because I had stalled the bike by hitting the brake without pulling the clutch.  I didn't need to run any data reports.

Chase was articulate and showed an excellent knowledge of some moto history.

Impressive.

Yeah, same can be said about Ian Harrison at KTM. He admitted that Prados engine broke in the post race interviews. Kawi leadership is a disgrace.

Chase came across as genuine, humble, knowledgeable and very respectful to his competitors. He clearly loves the sport and the 450 class is better with him in it. Hoping he can get comfortable with the bike or find another team and bike he gels with and we see him battling up front where he belongs.

Was I the only one surprised he's wearing a team shirt?

And that is why those kinds of issues rarely if ever happen at the top teams like Honda.

Not at all.  He is receiving 100K+ a month from them, so he isn't taking that off just yet.

It would have been awesome if he had his hat on backwards in the booth though.

I was skeptical last season when Jorge had issues with the bike (I still don’t think Prado handled that situation very professionally), and while Chase is a bit of a mental case, I think it’s clear at this point that it’s not just the bike but the team.

If I were I would be doing anything I could to get out of the contract and get on another team so that he can begin to rebuild  and get back to where he was. With the Lawrence  there with Haiden Deegan getting better, as well as Prado, and with Lucas coming to the states, it’s not going to get easier.

He's admitting he hit the brake in the air.   Now whether he had the clutch pulled in all the way or not is another question.... or maybe it was a clutch issue?   The world may never know....

Honda - Felt like he wasn’t getting a fair shake against Jett once Jett moved up.

KTM - something not being able to work with the team. Mainly personnel.

Pretty sure he could ride a Honda or KTM pretty easily next year if he wanted to. Why did webb leave KTM? Why did roczen leave Honda? Why did Eli leave kawasaki?

Thanks. So Yamaha seems to have their future, Suzuki seems an easy bike to blame, and Austrian bikes seem no go. Tier 2 teams? Doesn’t seem like that kind of guy, being a former champion with championship hopes. I imagine it is hard getting to the top, getting paid, and then not being able to make lemonade out of lemons.

Then you have Steve defending Kawi at every turn. That truck must have some good coffee. It’s a shame he became what he use to hate.

the contract breaking part of it may not be as simple as some people think it would.

Yeah I like Chase - after the interview on Pulp with Oscar and Oscar stating the 2027 is basically a all new bike not just chassis and swing arm - but couldn't elaborate what other changes until it is released. I hope chase waits to get on the 2027 and give it a go, before trying to get out of his contract.

I get the notion that Chase will wind up staying put for 2027...but that Kawasaki will have to eat a crap ton of crow in the process.

Did anybody else see Chase post an old photo of him at Lorettas on a Yamaha the other day?
