Eli said he's been on the bike for 2 weeks, Neck is 100% and he feels 100%. also said his motivation was he loves racing and wants to get back into the battle. Said he's tired of watching the races from the couch.

With that attitude. He's racing until he's 90!!!

Definitely top 15, probably 7-10. He's missed a lot of time since 23 and even if he hasn't lost any speed on the test track being with 39 other guys on the first lap will probably bother him more than he expects. I'd be surprised if he beats Garrett, I'd be very surprised if he beats Prado and Deegan. No way he beats the brothers.

Tell me you don’t know moto without actually telling me

I really like Garrett and think he is hauling ass. That being said, I don't think Tomac finishes 1 minute back from the leaders. 30 seconds, 40 seconds. Maybe. But he came back last summer after years of no outdoors and still ran within a few seconds a lap of the leaders. By third race he was on the podium.

Eli is fast as shit outdoors. Even if he has lost speed he isn't going to be back there with Garrett and Cooper Webb. Get out of here with that

Well said, don’t see him that far behind leaders unless crash or horrible start.

ELI could do much better than expected being that he trains at altitude.  Wildfire smoke rolled in today from Canada.  It’s very thick & stinks real bad.  Much worse than the last 4 yrs.  If you attend the race buy a few large cans of oxygen from Walmart. And eye drops for your burning eyes.

Oh yeah a freak crash. Deep dry sand on the base its iron  peaks & holes.  1st gear carve only corner without ruts on exit 2 quick clicks to 3rd . Other laps 7 mph then get a little acceleration then more & more wo.  This time it hooked up like I was on Velcro, happy spike to rip the whoops. 4th 1 the shock pneumatic kick at the sky , ejected me .  Fastest I ever accelerated  including drag cars.  Then airborne thinking oh no but I usually crash good rms out then roll when I hit.  I went in with g force head then left shoulder then a speed front flip into a big whoop with my backside ribs into the whoop.  Couldn’t breath for a min + I thought I broke my collarbone to because shoulder was down & in.  Then I noticed my left arm shaking real bad & started sweating like crazy. 1 hand I pu my bike 80 yards away started it & made it to my van.  It took a while for someone to come ovr. He freaked because my eye to my neck was swelled up 3 inches.  Then he called 911 2 police cars 1st then ambulance quick on a gurney . There going hyper doing test got a shot of fentanyl & they said u need a trauma center , your not going to make it in a truck.  Quick discussion with the police on where too. Ambulance raced me 2.2 mi to a fire dept very busy quick trip across the rd . Police shut the rd down for the helicopter to land.  Got my last prayer & thought this is it for me.  What a weird way to die.  Lucky I lived 100 life times b4 I was 29.  I didn’t think I would be alive when we landed . Next thing you know I,m on the ground & there racing me into icu.  I died in there a few times.  I remember I was in the air looking down at myself different times.  I got more pain shots after a few minutes the 2nd stuff was wild. Then a hard hit when they drove a needle into my chest . After that the pain dropped a lot.  The whole time it feels like a few massive heart attacks at once. ICU yelled my name different times thinking I was gone.  Couple times I said f that I,m not going back to that pain.  Broken back, neck, femur, humorous, blown knees is nothing . This pain. Is worse than death.  Collapsed lung , lacerations, hole in it that’s bad. 2 machines did breathing for me for 5 days in trauma. This happened on 6-27 hv to sleep sitting up yet & usually don’t or get 1.10 hr a night.  If you go threw this all

Your thoughts are very brief.  Pain level is Wy too high to think in extended detail .  You can only speak 1/4 of a word.  I always thought it you think it’s important enough to tell someone what they mean to you etc , do it now.  Because there is no later & then you hv no regrets .

Last years finishing average was 5.5. The older you get the more you speed you lose over a year. Sorry that's just reality.

At fox raceway his best time in combined quali  was 6s slower than hunter. Sorry but that's not podium speed.

Take away the legend status and then think where he'll finish.

Yes, the series is better with Eli back regardless of where he finishes.

Average finish isn't really a good indicator specially not when he had a DNF. He was standing on the podium in more than half of the races and most of the weekends he was really only behind the hunter brothers. He also openly spoke out about not being comfortable at all on the bike outdoors.

"The older you get the more you speed you lose over a year. Sorry that's just reality."

We have seen one of the fastest versions of him in SX this year during the first half, so I don't agree with that at all. Recovery gets harder with age, yeah. The speed doesn't go away. Look at Herlings, Kenny, Tomac in SX, Febvre. They're all as fast as ever.

I think Eli was the fastest qualifier at SLC. So you are saying two weeks later he was then 6 seconds a lap slower than Hunter? Yes, on the timed qualifying, he was, but that would not have been the reality in the race.

Tomac can likely match their speed but just won't be able to do it for a whole moto. He had some issues in practice at Pala that we don't know about.

Yeah it’s crazy to go through Bro.  Your 100 % in there hands .  The lead surgeon was scolding out others saying not there with the tube , you hv the gause in wrong etc.  Lol I was feeling amazing legs strong , waist up I felt weightless.  A bowled right turn with 4 ruts I struggled to hit the inside last yr . I greased it on the inside other deep sand corners had a great feeling , skimming the whoops easily as usual.  Aprox 30 in icu they all looked shocked when they saw me.  They thought I hit a tree I was asked that a bunch .

Mavo

They don't race half seasons. Hasn't Eli only got one 450 win in the last 3 years?

All those you mentioned are fighting harder for those wins. If speed doesn't go away, then they would be killing the field more each year. Speed isn't a constant either. Speed goes up plateaus for a few years in their peak then it descends. All these legends are on the way down the from the peak

Just my own opinion (now shared) on this.

Recovery is the big one as you mentioned. Hell, I spent 4hrs in the garage on my son's bike on Tuesday and am hobbling worse than Jet

Eli Tomac does not line up to compete for 5ths, 4ths, 3rd, or 2nds.  He'll be going for the win if it's there.

I expect him to be in the mix, battling with 96, 1 and 38 for the top spot.

Why would 38 be battling for the top spot?

This is just not true when you crashed out of your last two races, had a significant injury, it is your first outdoor race on a new bike brand, you are 33 years old, and have not raced since May. The win simply won't be there for him, and he knows that.

I've predicted top 5 as a good result with justification earlier, but I'll still be so stoked if he rips a fat start and gets the opportunity to mix it up at the front.

I think those you listed can be very fast still but I don't think any are as fast as they were at their peak. Just because Tomac won SXs this year and was fast does not mean he is as fast as he was. I still think is fastest years in SX were on the Kawi. As for Kenny I think he was fastest in 2017. Herlings in 2018.

Sure ET wants to win.  Win what and at what cost?  WSX, this race, long term health or something else down the road?  Risk vs Reward. Too many variables to peg down.  He got hurt last time by getting "Suck" in the pack and had to deal with riders and their actions.  Crawling off the track and collapsing, then out for weeks doesn't win championships or races.  His age, family, risks of racing all factor into perspective.

Glad to see Tomac back!

The heat and air quality is going to effect the race for sure. The smoke from the Canadian fires is bad. The air here in Minnesota has a brown/yellow haze and I could even see the smoke in the air driving to work at 3:15 this morning. Its been 97 to 99 degrees on my way home from work at 3 in the afternoon the last few days. Spring creek holds heat and humidity like a sponge. Add in the smoke and its going suck ass!
