I'd love to see them rotate Pala with Glen Helen every other year. Rotate Lakewood, CO round with Monster Mtn or Swan every other year.
Wouldn’t work because it’s way out in the boonies and lacks infrastructure and parking but…. Oak Ridge MX in Iowa is likely America’s coolest/ most baddassest circuit in America….
dude i've raced there a fair amount. no shot it is national capable. Current lap times are 1:19 for local A class speed. cool looking for sure.
Remember the 11th Commandment;
Thou shalt NOT hold an outdoor pro national in the southeast! 😎

Early/mid '80's Gainesville layouts were killer and exactly what we need again.
Lake Whitney Cycle Ranch
Hemonds, Flying Ironhorse, return of Lake Sugartree, facilities like Club, SoB or Farm 14
Which is such bullshit. Plenty of sporting events go on in the southeast May-Sept.. I don't see Walt Disney World, Sea World, or Universal closing May through September because of heat, and everyone from 6months old to 90 yrs old is there. Half the teams practice there for God's sake. How about a Texas national too?
Brutal track. Magoo was unreal on that track.
Tomahawk, WV
To bad that place sits vacant besides some deer running around. But Cycle Ranch round 3 would be nice as well.
MX Sports it seems does not like to travel any further south than TN. Unless they can ride on the leftovers of Daytona to milk some other folks for the last of their Spring vacation funds...... I'm willing to bet Fox has a very strong influence as to why they even venture out west at all. Hangtown sure as hell isn't enough to bring them out there by itself. This whole heat thing they keep saying is complete bullshit......
Just remember folks, any questionable decisions you have with them always seems to comeback with one simple answer............... Lets all welcome back Cotter. How could this sport ever grow, and thrive, without the wisdom of Cotter is beyond us all. We should all count our blessings.......
Simple fact.....There are several tracks across the land that could offer an amazing event in the summer. Sadly though, they will probably never get a shot. Since very few could come up with the funds the promoters demand, they aren't worthy enough. So sad these tracks are passed over......
A few years ago I would have said you were crazy. But now with the partnership between Feld and MX Sports I don’t see why not. I agree the teams would hate it but instead of 1 race (like Gatorback) take a 3 race intermission from the stadiums and let them race outdoors. Could hit up some tracks that are typically too hot and break up the SX season.
That would be a cool way to emphasize the whole SMX part of it.
I thought Muddy Creek was dropped because it was too narrow, and couldn’t realistically be widened?
Surprised nobody mentioned Broome Tioga. Haven't seen it mentioned here on Vital, but it's under new ownership and the new owner is putting some $ and effort into turning it around. Watched many races there as a kid, awesome track for viewing, you could see pretty much the whole track from most places. Not sure today's riders could handle the rocks though. lol.
How can the sport attract a diverse and national audience with the same old tracks year after year?
And it’s been triple digits multiple times at Pala but it keeps being ok to go back there???
The most obvious one is Gatorback. It was already a national for a long time back in the day, the track has gotten even better since then, it has all the parking in the world, and it is in the location that makes the most sense with how much the sport has migrated to Florida and the fact that there really isn't a close round for fans in the southeast. I would love to see Glen Helen replace Pala and Gatorback added but to do both you would need to add the 12th national back because you want to keep all of the rest of the tracks on the schedule. That and from the snippets I've heard over the years both track's promoters don't see eye to eye with MX Sports, but who knows maybe they'll eventually come to their senses, the series would be at it's best with both of them.
Pit Row
What about a round at a ski resort? They have the infrastructure in place for crowds, people and equipment to build, typically good summer weather
Mammoth has its challenges but it’s a phenomenal race
Nothing evolves like deep sand tracks after a couple motos.
Cooperland?
Would’ve loved to see one at Florida Tracks and Trails in Punta Gorda before it shut down. It had all the parking, two incredible tracks, and enough dirt brought in during construction where there was some decent vantage points for being SWFL. A few sections of truck in bleachers and I think it would’ve been worth a shot.
Realistically though, I think Gatorback would be incredible as long as the weather would cooperate. I’d love to see it come back after Daytona but I don’t think that’ll ever happen again
Ugly politics too.
In 97 I saw the last national there. And Ricky,s 1 win , MC ,s RM 250 sounded like a rm 180. He almost won the 2nd moto he slid out right in front of us. The track was hard pack & beat back then. Much better now. In March that’s the perfect spot all kinds of motorcycle racing going on. Bike week & spring break . I hit Daytona beach after the race for a couple days , crazy wild back then.
Grantsburg MX
ClubMX could put together a good track.
That’s awesome!
Wish I could have seen a national at gatorback. We moved from California to Florida in 1999, so was too late
ACP in Arizona but most would complain about the heat. Would be cool if they ran it as a night round though
Wouldn’t be fair, Kevin Sherman would win by a minute thirty
