Who cares about the circus? Why would they cover it? "Today in the traveling circus, claw boy did a backflip!"

I hope someone completely unrelated to the sport gets ahold of this story and can make a proper doc/movie about it. FELD would completely fuck it up even though it's a perfect comeback story. Kid from Germany races his way to the US, becomes the prospect, gets a life changing injury that doctors say he'd be lucky to write his name again, signs to an unproven team with a dated bike, team manager gets cancer and WINS after a decade of trying.

Can't even make this shit up, can you.

easy to understand. A large majority of the US population hates anything to do with motorcycles. They are loud, dirty, ruining the environment and more brainwashed negative propaganda. They would pee their pants if their dream of banning motorcycles of all kinds completely came true.

Yeah.. youre also the guy who is probably always railing about you wish moto had more "mainstream appeal", which does nothing but turn the sport into a circus.

But hey, maybe when it goes full circus, someone will finally tell you that you're cool for racing MX.

Dude, you could not be more wrong in your assumptions.

Also, my mom says I'm cool.

Curious, How many people watched it live last night?  I'm sure not many compared to stick and ball sports.

But who cares, SX/MX is what we love and it and it's  participants kicksss.

Good point. I will only watch mainstream sports live (or on slight delay), but rarely watch motor racing live. Especially SX with all its qualifiers and filler pieces.

Stick & ball sports also have the advantage of school sponsorships. Anyone can show up to gym class with a pair of shoes and try out.  There are multiple barriers of entry for any Motorsport. Plus it’s damn noisy.  Sure, it’s part of the aesthetic, but limits overall appeal.

Supercross will never dramatically increase in popularity until they fix the structure of the night show. It takes 2 hours until we can watch main event racing. Completely ridiculous product design.

Tough time of year for sports headlines with NBA and NHL playoffs in full swing... NFL draft just happened... MLB cranking up...

Who cares. Ken don't, fans don't. I like that this is a small sport.

Yea me too. When I tell them that moto makes me twice as tired and sore than mountain biking, they never believe me

I dunno, mtb can be fucking brutal man. Not talking ebikes... doing 2k+ foot climbs under my own power has pushed me to my limits in ways that moto doesn't. It's just a different type of workout.

I wouldn't put one over the other because of how different they feel, but moto definitely works the whole body more and has the accompanying soreness from getting beat up.

Most love stick and ball sports, many of whom never even participated in them to any large degree which continues to baffle me throughout life.

“If you like basketball so much why don’t you play yourself?”

Golf seem to have a high player/viewer ratio too.

Stick and ball sports are popular because almost all of us have played baseball/football/basketball/soccer/hockey at some point in our lives (organized teams, PE class, or pick-up games with friends), so we can relate to them, even if we don't currently play any of them. The amount of people who've actually ridden a dirt bike, much less raced one, is a tiny percentage of the population, so most can't relate to it at all because they have no understanding of the sport.

Ive said this for the last 5 years, bang for the buck, SMX is a better investment than Nascar.  I know of no one that follows Nascar.
25 years ago people did but it has died.
Your grass roots motorsports becoming more prevalent lately.
As a sponsor giving a Nascar team $20 million per season compared to giving a SMX team $2 million, you are not getting 10x the exposure through Nascar.
I travel a lot for work.   I have not seen a Nascar shirt in maybe 15 years out in public.    I do however see Mx/Sx sprint car, dirt modified/late model, monster truck shirts being worn.

Exactly this.  And even if you haven't played a stick and ball sport it's much easier to relate to running down a field, throwing a ball, etc than racing motocross.  It's just impossible for an outsider to have any idea what it's like.  I would guess that probably over 90% of people that own a dirt bike don't even know what it's like to race motocross at a decent amateur level.

At this rate, between Cole beating Deegan and then the Ken/Hunter drama they'll need to sponsor me. What a shit show. So embarrassing, I had to shut the door!

As I surround myself with parents of my kids friends who are all stick and ball sports fans… their view of our sport is really eye opening.

They barely know the difference between bmx, freestyle mx, monster trucks and moto. Talking to them… it’s all part of the same package. I gave up some time ago.

At the start of the season, I got my non-moto friend into watching supercross and he loves it. He’ll never buy a bike or go that route, but he caught onto to the excitement real quick and watches the races every weekend, and has questions about the points, different classes, etc.

Locked onto Roczen and Kitchen at the first few rounds so he was pulling for them, and wouldn’t you know it. Kenny won it.

Bums me out to think sports news directors wouldn’t see this as something their viewers may  enjoy and be surprised at…and smile.

Again, makes ya realize how small our sport is.

But, that’s ok…we’ll keep it.

(If someone else finds please share!)

Well, did any of our so called journalists call major networks and tell them the sport and story?

might as well if they are just putting out press releases

Aint it the truth?  Never understood the trance that stick & ball sports have on people.  Id rather sweep my shop and just look at my bike sitting on the stand,  than sit on my ass in the house watching any stick and ball sport on TV.

I just don't think that anybody who had never heard of Ken Roczen would find the story all that fascinating.

It only becomes a good story if you've been following his career and you understand how rare it is (was?) for old guys to win in this sport.

I never understood that either, how can you be so into a sport you’ve never done or don’t currently do?

I could understand being into football if you played football in high school and college, and were still interested in it. Which is Probaly only like 1% of fans

The percentage of people who watch motocross that have been or currently involved in the sport is Probaly huge.

Fine with it being small an no one knowing about it, could care less if it “grows”, aslong as we keep decent live tv coverage I’m good!

I personally enjoy the length, wouldn’t mind if it was a little longer. Often watch race day live also. Would suck if the entire night show was 1 hour only

First sentence you wrote here, about sports you have done or currently doing… hard disagree. How many people watch F1? How many of those people have participated in F1? Moto GP, etc….?

Most people watching F1 have drove a car though, and perhaps a fast one. Most watching moto gp have Probaly rode a street bike also…..

Doubt Many of us watching supercross have ever raced supercross, but most have raced motocross. Close enough

I've never raced motocross, but I grew up trail riding. It's not necessarily about racing, it's about the love of dirt bikes, and feeling you get from riding. A feeling that can't be replicated, watching them gives me a small taste of what it's like.

Plus, it's the effing coolest sport 😎
