Smuffers Added a reply to Getting something other than a PW50

It's crazy that a clapped out PW around you is $1k-$1500 when a brand new one is $1900. Given the price of a new bike, It just does not seem worthwhile to purchase a used bike that's gonna need $500-$600 in parts to get right. Save up for a new PW or buy one of the many cheap Chinese bikes...

Pw50 is the correct first bike. The other choice is the e2, but not cheap. Buy a $900 pw, and sell it for 900 when he outgrows it.

I would stay away from the JR50 if you could because of its age the bike is going to need a lot of work to really get up to snuff. By the time you get it running and replace all the necessary seals and bearings you might as well have just bought the PW. That said, if you really want...
How does an arbitrary age limit on 250s make for better racing? Is the argument that older 250 riders are too good? And that the younger 250 riders cannot compete with the older riders?

A combined 250 series means half the professional riders as today = more privateers at the gates. The gap in power/performance between a privateer and professional 250 is significant. So now you just reduced professionals racing competitive machines and introduced more lappers. And that is going to equate to better racing?

This idea of getting rid of coasts with 250 sx… If I’m a team or manufacturer and there are 3 250 titles, and 1 SMX title, I will ALWAYS want more opportunities to hold that number 1 plate at the end of the season in front of my bike. Always. I’m sure teams and manufacturers are not bummed that they have more opportunities for championships and there are more rides overall by splitting coasts. If anything, let’s add more chances for rides and championships not eliminate them. there are 3 shots at a championship for 450s a year and 4...

If a democrat did the EXACT same thing as Paxton this place would rake him over the coals. Alas, independent thought is no longer a capability of many.

Why would you want homologation rules for sx when the customer base the factories are selling to don't race sx? You'd want the exact opposite, works bikes for sx because it is so far removed from what the larger customer base is doing. Homologation rules for mx because that's what the consumer is actually riding.

I would have no problem buying a new Yz125, but I have a ton of Austrian parts, wheels, suspension ect. Makes sense for me to continue on with them…the pumpkins have been solid for me the last 10 years….

FWIW, I have ridden this thing in the sand 2-3 times now and it has been so much freakin fun. Keeping that thing on the pipe while surfing a smooth outside line in the sand is freakin nirvana on a dirt bike. Am I going fast? Not really, but the sound of that bike screaming sure makes me feel like...

Great replies! I”m 190lbs but I have been enjoying riding my 1993 CR125 over the last few years, so any newer 150 will feel like a revelation to me….I have no problem keeping my old CR125 going around a track….I ride a 300SX and 350SFx as well. I”m almost 60 years old, not concerned about racing it, although I”m sure I will… the small bores are just plain fun to ride….I have been searching for a low hr carbed 125/150…but most are hammered and neglected….

Right now I'm about 200lbs with gear on. I'm not going to sit here and say the bike is a rocket ship, but it'll do what I want it to do if I ride it hard enough. That's kind of what I was looking for in a small bore. Full disclaimer, I'm not racing anymore so I'm not looking at...

I'm 37, I ride open practice mx with the vets, and this is the 150sx is the most fun I've ever had on a bike. I sold my 450 and picked this up and it just doesn't wear me out like a 450 does. That said, you do have to ride the bike more aggressively if you want to actual...

If you want these boots as a display piece then great. If you intend on riding in them then think again. The plastics on these boots degrades over time. I had a pair from 2008ish and they really started falling apart in 2018 despite not having many hours on them. The plastic became brittle and easily crumbled into small pieces.
