ML512 Liked a comment about Press Release AMA Releases Statement Regarding Arlington's Light and Cross Flag Controversy

I stood outside the AMA rig until almost midnight in the cold of get a statement. They wouldn’t give one. I gathered info from the teams invoked and released it in our post-race show yesterday. Myself and Lewis both heavily criticized the position they took on this.

Here is the actual rule from the AMA rule book (emphasis added). The rule says red cross OR red flashing light. e. White Flag with Red Cross or Red Flashing Lights 1. This flag or a red flashing light may be displayed at the beginning of a triple jump or a series of jumps to indicate a potentially hazardous situation on or near the racetrack in an area that may not be clearly visible to oncoming Riders. 2. This flag indicates a significant safety concern and takes precedence over all other flags. 3. Until the Rider is clear of the...

So you want riders coming out of a corner who see the lights to then check if there is also a flag to go along with the lights, and then make the decision to back off in the fraction of a second that they have for all of this? You are going to end up killing somebody in the name of "safety". Pathetic incompetence. The sport deserves better.

Below are the rules from the AMA 2026 rule book. Emphasis added, but the rules speak for themselves and they blatantly ignored them. e. White Flag with Red Cross or Red Flashing Lights 1. Imagine a situation in a race this season where there is a red cross flag, for a genuine reason/rider down injured, but no "lead in lights", and a rider either doesn't see the flag or "doesn't see the flag" and proceeds to jump and then land on or crash into the medical staff and/or downed rider. This is a very real situation that could now happen if they stick with their decision in regards to this 450 flag debacle and don't make a hard rule otherwise. What a fucking shambles

To recap your sentiment, flag rules are and have been confusing, and people are angry about safety issues....... Yes, that is correct. I literally know people who died because they were landed on. Safety should be the most important thing that the AMA does and unfortunately it is not. If you jump on a red cross you should be penalized...
The red cross flag has always been sacred. Red lights and red cross flags have always had the same meaning DON'T JUMP. It has always been a bright line rule for the riders to follow, penalties for violations have been swift and harsh, and now the AMA is abruptly changing course to not penalize multiple riders for clear violations. The...

Why does it seem like these decisions only ever seem to go in Star Yamaha’s favor. The amount of times Deegan has gotten away with leaving the track as well… In contrast, for Honda somehow they always happen to create exceptional scenarios. The first time maybe ever we saw someone get docked for jumping the gate and now the first time someone is getting punished for rolling on red lights. Very suspicious

If that’s really the AMA’s stance - that since there wasn’t really an incident warranting the light it’s ok to jump despite the light - then their position is absurd. The point of the light is to give the riders clear direction about what to do - the light is on, you don’t jump. If it’s now a matter of the light is on so you determine whether the light needs to be on and either jump or not depending on the situation, then the light is useless. You want to take that safety decision out of the rider’s hands...

Correct. The most recently posted penalty report is Seattle. Also in the post race interviews here on vital, Brown apparently said he "didn't visually see it". Maybe, maybe not. It's his responsibility to see it and take appropriate action though. He failed to do so.

Where did you find this? AMA has not released the post-race penalty report for Arlington on their site yet.

If that's actually AMA's position on this then they are sending a pretty clear signal on how they view rider safety......

That is plain stupid, their basically telling the riders to make a judgment call, on a red light. Many will go for it if they think they can thread the needle. So, in this case, for the 450 main, if the rider wasn't near the finish line jump, no penalties should be given out either. Red cross flag... Judgment call. Insane.

They showed it in the post race show, and a picture earlier in the thread. No doubt Brown passed Shimoda by jumping passed him with the red “no jump” light on.
