Broadcaster Salema Masekela reveals white supremacist threats and harassment at 2025 Anaheim supercross race

Sounds like a bunch of dumbass punks doing and saying stupid s*** for both Salema and his friend in each of their situations. One day it will catch up with them and they’ll get their ass beat properly.

With that said, idk man. I really liked Sal! Especially growing up seeing him on every XGames commercial and broadcast. He was the voice of extreme sports to me. But I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of Salema. Seeing him a little bit during XGames the last few years is like watching a completely different guy. Bring back Sal!

It’s terrible he had an interaction with dipshit kids. Saying he wishes white people gave a fuck? Those kids dont represent me or my opinions.

Sucks, but not surprised. I guarantee those down playing it have known nothing but white cis gender heterosexual privilege their entire lives. Not being those things can be rough in todays world.

Orange County has historically been a hot spot for racism in California. Unfortunately I’m not surprised this happened. There are lots of good people who live here, but unfortunately this kind of thing is a lot more common than people think. 

Whether it did or didn't happen, only he knows that.

What pisses me off is crap like this....

Asshole behavior comes in a lot of colors. And it’s always wrong to assume everyone who happens to look like an asshole you met once, is also an asshole who wants to do the same things.

The story sounds plausible. But the conclusion of “all white guys in a pickup truck are racist” is a fully racist assumption, and the writer is completely ignorant of his blatant racism.

Like MX Guy said, so many people in that stadium would have been stoked to see him and would have wanted an autograph. Especially the over 30 crowd. We grew up watching the dude every July/August and December/January. 

Despite the claims that people would defend him in person, empathy towards his words seems to be in low supply here. Dude was shook by a truck full of knuckleheads and was worried that maybe he was actually surrounded by same. Have none of you ever been in a similar situation where you were ethnically outnumbered and worried that the majority of the people around you at the time might not have your best interests at heart?

People say offensive shit all the time. It probably did happen in this case. It definitely will happen again. What can we do about it? Choose not to let words have power, and not give people attention when they so desperately seek it. It is up to us at the end of the day. 

Of all the pro races I attended in Southern California, Anaheim was the only one where I saw multiple confederate flags flying in the parking lot. To be fair, only at one event, but it was still a surprise to see.

It's great that those kids don't represent you. But everyone here is being willfully ignorant.

Sal has been involved in moto for as long as I can remember and I've been racing since the early 2000s. The first thing we can do is believe rather than belittle a respected black man within our industry, and show him just a smidge of support. It takes no more effort to show love than it does hate.

Cheering for a black dude winning a race has nothing to do with how you feel about black people in society.

Plenty of men cheer their daughter at a basketball game or in public then beat on their wife and kids behind closed doors and hate women.  Are people really this stupid and linear?

Yes. I've been in a similar situation. As a mid 20's South African(1985ish) my first few days in LA, my map book and I got lost and I ended up In Compton.

I was sent in a pickup to buy timber and had I never in my life experienced such big highways and so many cars. I was panicked and trying to follow hand written directions along with a map book.

Ended up in Compton asking for directions. The dudes told me I had better leave in a hurry. A old friendly gent (veteran) offered to show me the way back to the the 91 Artesia freeway. In the pickup he told me that I was lucky to get out of there without being taken advantage of. I gave the gent $20 bucks as a thank you.

I got back to Rancho Domingo safely but without the timber. When I told the guys that I was in Compton they laughed their asses off. That was a great joke for them.

Anyways, back to the topic.

Sadly, racism will never go away. We like the individual regardless of colour. If you don't like someone, then all fair but you don't need to open your mouth and give the dude shit because you dont like him for what ever reason. 

These asshole entitled kids did just that and unfortunately everyone is now painted with the big brush.

It was mentioned above about Mookie's Tampa win. The whole stadium roared with happiness for Mookie,...those are the real fans of moto. 

I've seen confederate flags at virtually every single professional moto event I've been to over the years. Indy, Foxborough, MetLife, Red Bud, Southwick, and Unadilla. I have no doubt I'll see confederate flags at Budd's Creek this year as well. That is in no way shape or form isolated to Anaheim. 

The Confederate flag does not indicate or suggest racism, simply an alternative govt. to what the nation had at the time.

I experience black supremacist behavior every time I pump gas in southeast DC. I'm sick and tired of it being national news when some white trash mod does it, but commonplace when anyone else does it.

People weren’t cheering for Husky or the white team owner, they were cheering for Malcolm as a person and his character. Everything we should strive to do. To say that doesn’t really matter, we’re still white supremacists is the epitome of the critical race theory BS pushed in schools. That victim mentality leads to black fatigue and we say “fuck it”, you’ll never be satisfied.
