There is nothing professional about this sport

The great push to make us mainstream?

Absolutely nothing has been accomplished.

Dude what’s the right thing to do? It’s chaos, everything is slippery, bikes racing by, flagger spotter up top probably yelling down on the radio to get Zay’s leg out of the bike assuming he’s being burned. Flagger in a panic trying to help not knowing he might be hurting. Zay probably screaming for help, not even knowing his leg was broken yet.

I’m chalking this up as holy shit this sucks, just a chaotic situation, let’s not dogpile.

I think anyone with half a brain would have just helped him get his leg unstuck

You think he saw his leg stuck and still did that?

I agree with Crutcher. Dig dug is doing his best.

We all sit here with our heart rates at normal, no dirt bikes wizzing by our heads and judge harshly this fellow.

unfortunate situation & injury but it’s not hard to understand, flaggers are not medically trained ppl , their just wht their job on the track is , a FLAAAGGGGGGGEREEER , different sports but yal kno in football whether in college or the nfl , serious injury on the field , the teams have they medical staff on the field to attend the injury player & then u see the coaching staff come on the field & check em out with the medical staff , feld needs to hire more on track legit medical staff ppl , if thts serious of a crash injury , page over the walkie talkies to have the medical staff show up at the same time in the area as the flagger , it’s simple

I can understand him making that mistake in the heat of the moment, but that's bloody horrific for the rider.

Surely all track side personnel should have basic first aid training? Like any profession involved in risk and safety does. First thing they always emphasise; assess the situation before acting.

He obviously didn't see the leg at first but that's just brutal. Those guys are told not to assist the riders. They are not medical. They don't help guys up, etc. They're told to pick the bike up and use it to shield downed riders. He was trying to do his part, just got a little excited and didn't see the leg there. I give him credit for at least hustling out there and putting himself at risk to go do his part.

Apparently there are, I think, three 'professional' flaggers that go to each race and are presumably somewhat trained...although in what exactly I'm not sure.

As for the rest of them, Feld just cruises the local skid rows in a van and offers drunks a couple of free beers if they'll flag for the night...

No they don’t… most of the rounds have repeat flaggers, year after year.

You pull that piece of information out of your rectum?

Anyways, that flagger should have paid more attention. I call it situational awareness. Shit like we saw should not happen. My hair is still standing up from watching that clip.

Although exaggerated I agree with you. I've also mentioned in here several times volunteer flaggers are a problem. It isn't the individuals themselves at fault for being unprofessional or whatever. It's the AMA who seemingly refuses to change.

This is promising.  This could have gone really really bad.

I have flagged a couple SX rds.

Flaggers do not run on track to pick up bikes.

They make sure other people can do that safely.

The runners who work every rd go on track to pick up bikes. They are being coached by radio from upstairs.

No way he had any idea the leg was in there.

These runners are core, and badass.

I 1000% agree.  When was the last time we have seen someone with a leg stuck in the back of a bike, and our first thought wasn't "holy shit, let's get that leg out ASAP!! ?  It is always thought/step 1.  (it has happened to me before too, I cracked my tibia).

Seeing his femur in the grinder like that is hard to watch, but the guy was doing the same thing we all we have been doing in that moment.  I am just glad Izaih didn't have any damage to his arteries and seems in good spirits.

That's is a fucking scenario that can't happen again. Number one rule should be to establish contact with rider.

I'm amazed they let this shit happen again and again.

Certainly not a good look for injured rider well being.

But, the runner/flagger primary concern with a downed rider tangled in a bike is preventing him from being landed on or ridden over. Damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario.

Do we know what caused him to break the leg in the first place?

It’s not like he was going to break his femur anymore than it was.
