Took a half day to actually just go ride my dirtbike yesterday at Fox, and while sitting alongside the track with a buddy, something kind of hit me.
Fox Raceway was its usual insanely busy place...even on a weekday, so there were tons of riders and bikes to trigger this thought.
How many of the new OEM's machines have you seen out at your local tracks? In this case, I was thinking about Stark, Ducati and Triumph.
I saw two Starks, whether I'm at a track on a weekday or a weekend. One to two seems to be common, only an additional one or two if it's a group that has them.
Triumphs...I saw three, but all were part of this guy's rental fleet. I see one or two per trip to the track, but sometimes none.
Ducati, there were none of this given day, but pre-season on a weekend, I'd see 3-4 there for a couple of weeks.
I usually see one Beta each time I'm out as wel
This is compared to the other 100-120 bikes that were made up fairly evenly between Honda, Yamaha, and KTM group machines...with Kawasaki trailing just slightly behind their averages. And yes, there was one Suzuki present.
What I'm getting at is, have any of the new OEM machines really penetrated the market in your local area? And has it been enough for you to view it as successful from your perspective?
I normally see 1-2 starks every ride. One guy local has a triump450 but he had issues and I haven’t seen it recently. I haven’t seen a Ducati in person yet. I did see my first beta 450 in person last year. It’s a good looking bike in person.
Open ride days are ClubMX are mixed. Seen a couple of Ducati in the past few days, There's always a few Triumphs, but racing off road we're the only ones on a Triumph.
I saw a Ducati at Cahuilla and I've seen a few Starks out and around. Not many of those. I'm not sure I've ever seen a Triumph in the flesh except at Supercross. My friend has a Beta.
Normally see one Triumph where I go. Zero Ducatis. See a couple of Starks. Lots of Yamaha and KTM group. Zero Betas.

I feel like Triumph is making a small dent. Typically see a couple. I have seen one Stark and no Ducatis or Betas. I would add Kawi to the Yamaha, Honda, KTM group, and then a smaller number of Suzukis.
I ride the local Southern California tracks on a regular basis, well I take my kids while I'm recovering from knee replacement. Every now and then I’ll see 1 Ducati, and a few Triumphs. I feel like they are a bit of an oddity at this point, and kind of “designer” bikes. They are cool and the owners seem to get a lot of attention from people asking about the bikes. There’s definitely more Triumph 250’s then 450’s. There seems to always be a few Starks. I had one of the first few GASGAS 450’s in 2021 and it was kinda the same thing.
I think the stigma of owning a Ducati and the bad press the Triumph 450’s have gotten have slowed their sales. Hell, there’s a ton of brand new Triumph 450RC’s left at dealers.
Roughly the same for Stark and Triumph here, 1-2 every other ride. Yet to see a Ducati or Beta.
I was at E Street MX of few weeks ago on a Wednesday and saw a Ducati and a Stark.
I feel like I’ve seen a decent amount of Triumph out here on the East Coast. But at least there’s always one out here. Maybe 1 Stark every now and then. Haven’t seen the Ducati.
Im too concerned with survival during open practices…but ya…about 1-2 of each of these boutique bike brands…mostly yamaha, honda & ktm”s for real….
I see 3-4 Starks on a Saturday. Hope to have one myself soon.
Ohio here. Lots of triumphs. No Ducati's. Occasional Stark (finally rode one a few weeks ago). Would kill to be a part of an East coast bike test (wink wink ML) lol.
Usually see 1 Stark at my local track and I’m the guy with the Beta so it’s always there. I’ve yet to see a Ducati in the wild and I’ve seen one Triumph 450 at a race last year but none during regular practice days.
Seems like a lot of you industry guys are too busy or bored of riding.
Get out and enjoy it once a month and leave the camera, recorder and work at home for a few hours.
It's good for your stress level.
I'm in Washington state and I ride/race a ton of different tracks here.
I've seen a couple Triumphs around the northwest (including Tim who posts here at vital).
I know a guy with a Beta 300 and 125 and once in a while I see them in similar numbers to Triumph.
One of our local clay tracks (Burnt Ridge MX) had a few practice days already this year and a fella brought two brand new Ducati 450s.
Another guy had a Ducati 450 at a sand track nearby... He told my buddy it vibrates like crazy.
I see a handful of Stark Vargs around too.
My impression is that the Varg offers something unique and the Ducati has a certain image of sophistication attached to it.
That impression makes me think these two will pull in more market share and attention than Triumph and Beta.
We have a ton of Yamaha, KTM and Honda around here, too...
Still lots of Kawasakis and very few current model Suzukis.
I've seen a few Kove's, Triumph's, and even a Stark. I have not seen a Ducati in person yet.
In Illinois most the times I see
3 or 4 triumphs
1-2 straks.
Beta maybe 1 or 2 maybe
Ducati is to new and its been cold here but when I went to monster Mt, echeconnee and pax track I saw 1 at each track.
I will say im seeing a few more kawis and RMZ's then in the last few years.
Thing is, it's hard to compare at the track with older OEMs cause you'll see a ton of Honda, Yamaha, KTM... but not that easy to sort how many of those are 25, 26 MY.
@ML512, do you have access to OEM sales at national level? It's quite hard to get information about closed course vehicles sales numbers...
From recent nationwide US recalls data, it seems that Honda was selling in the range of 3-4 k CRF450R (and about as many CRF250R) every year in the US, does that seem correct to you? Thanks.
We live in northeast PA. We’ve seen no bikes at any tracks!🥶 Same for us though. A few of the new brands sprinkled in everytime we go. Kind of stands to reason though as there’s just less dealers out there who offer them in our area. Kinda feel like it’s just gonna take some time. Not to mention they’re all trying to break into a new market for them when the prices of necessities the consumer buys is next level stupid.

ML don't you have access to sales numbers? Or at least access to people who do have access? I have never seen a shit ton of brand new bikes of any brand anywhere except a showroom the last few years let alone new makers.
In my area of Michigan there is maybe (2) people I see on Stark's, mainly Nick Tomasunas doin' it for the gram. Haven't seen any Beta's or Ducati's at the moto track yet. Plenty of Triumph's. Actually now among the 250f crowd it seems that Triumph and KTM are split evenly. In the offroad side of things its almost all KTM and Beta around here with a few of the Japanese OEM's sprinkled in. Very few Gas Gas and Husky bikes now too.
Ohio here also, summer and fall we always saw a couple Starks, more than one Beta, and more than one Triumph (250, there is a good dealer in NEO) at the local tracks. Never spotted a Ducati yet.
Otherwise, we see an uptick in Kawasaki and Honda where it was almost always Yamaha and Austrian, seems like they are being displaced by Red and Green somewhat.
What "Stigma" are you referring to for Ducati? The only one I've seen so far was at Red Bud Pro Natty.
Before winter hit here in Illinois, I'd see maybe 1 stark or Beta every few rides at the local tracks. I have yet seen a Ducati. The only time i have seen a Triumph is on race day and the gentleman was racing in the +50 class. I'd love to own a Ducati, but I'll wait another year for them to work out any kinks, if there are any?
NorCal has same. 1 stark, 1 Ducati, fleets of Yamahas, Hondas and Kawi’s. Austria brands are always around. Sad to see the win on Saturday doesn’t sell Monday, I haven’t seen a clean RMZ in a while.
According to some on here, the Stark Varg was supposed to have taken over by now, with built-in charging stations and tracks in green spaces.
Glad to see the internal combustion engine is alive and well.
Being in the industry a few decades I pay close attention to brands and gear and the track. Ride mostly at 3 Palms in the Houston area and on weekends there is around 150-200 riders on Saturday or Sunday. They have 4 prepped tracks so not too crowded. Usually see a Stark or two. Have yet to see a Ducati or a Triumph. In order its, KTM group, Yamaha a clear 1-2. Honda and Kawasaki a toss up for 3rd, and then a few Suzuki's.
I'm in Ontario, Canada. I have yet to see a Triumph at a track and would expect I'd have a better chance seeing a Ferrari on the two hour drive to my 'local' track vs seeing a Ducati there. I honestly do not know a single person who is pumped on either brand as an MX motorcycle.
Very few Hondas.
Ducati had always seemed to be the “rich guys” bike.
Interesting question. Ask the question again in 2029-2030. I haven't seen any Triumph or Ducati, I'm European. MX, KTM and Big 3 japan. Enduro, mostly for ktm, then beta and some sherco
