Anyone see this new bike Yamaha announced? Seems like a cool beginner bike. 304 pounds though.../cloudfront-us-east-1.images.arcpublishing.com/octane/JP3JRGOY2NEWBI5VOZZG4C6FKA.jpg)
300+ pounds and a 125...oooof. KTM390 enduro r comes in at like 340 pounds, and obviously 3.5 times more displacement.
Pretty inexpensive too for what it is.....$4K retail price. I think my local Yamaha shop has one on the floor.
Honda has a 150 lighter and cheaper....
looks a lot like something that belongs to the TTR family
The Shop
Free shipping: VITALMX
Luxon 4-Post Bar Mounts
$189.95 - $239.95
That thing looks like a turd….
Yamaha still makes DT 125’s and 175’s and sell them all over the world but not in America. Too light, too efficient, too inexpensive, and too easy to fix and maintain for us Americans.
Man at least have a 200 in it. I picked up a Suzuki DR200 for cheap that needed some work. Fixed it up for the wife and rode it a couple times, that thing was a pooch. She didn’t like the seat height so sold it, but definitely need a little more ho out of these small dual sports
It makes more power than something like a dr200. Four valve variable valve timing engine.
And more importantly, can probably pass the new euro spec emissions. Also in most markets 125cc and below motorcycles don't need inspections and have less restrictive licensing requirements.
No kidding! A whole lot of weight for a beginner. A whole lot of lost performance for ANYONE else. I guess for a Newbie looking at a bike on the showroom floor they wouldn't know the difference...Come on Yamaha - you should be ashamed. You can (NEED TO) do better than this!
We've had that WR in Europe for years and it IS a turd.
Really?! Any pics of these?
Had a DR200 for awhile. It was a hoot. Rode it to work reasonably often. Built a ramp and jumped over employees in the parking lot a couple times, good fun. I think it's on you tube somewhere?

From the Yamaha international website.

Down in Brazil there is a huge racing scene for cheap small bore 2 strokes. Guys modding the shit out of these DT’s. It’s cool as hell. They race at night in streets of São Paulo. Pretty wild.
34.4 seat height ? not great for the intended audience
cool.....
I wish they could sell them here.
I would probably try to get one just to relive being a16 year old that bought a used 1976 dt 175 twin shocker.
Was my main transportation for the first year of having a license.
I am not sure there is any way for 16 year olds now to experience the complete freedom and independence that that little bike allowed me to experience.
A lot of 16 year olds dont even want the freedom and independence you had. They are good with smart phone/internet/entertainment.
I think this Yamaha LOOKS like a real dualsport, but lets be real, its main competition is the Honda Grom/ Kaw Z125. Bikes that are fun campground/around the neighborhood bikes.
DT175’s have hardly changed in over 30 years.
You’d be surprised where they can go, what they can and they’re very hard to kill! Some of the things I’ve seen them do 😂
Looks like some new 'downside-up' forks. Oh wait...
Pit Row
A lot closer to 50 years. Still come with the factory boost bottle.
DTs are still made, but aren't sold in most markets anymore. They are no longer in most of Latin America, Europe, or Asia -- although they were sold there for many, many years. They are mostly produced for government and NGOs in very undeveloped nations.
I never saw a stock DT with factory boost bottle in USA? Only YZs, in mainly 1981. Many people chucked them because they were frustrating to jet the bike properly.
Air cooled too!
"Boost bottle"
Somewhere Ed Scheidler is beating his forehead against a post and yelling "Y.E.I.S.!!!!" 😄
This post should be on the Vital homepage!😀
All 80s and later DTs, IT175s, wr200s, and RT180s all had factory boost bottles. Basically that entire product family.
This legacy is even carried on in the Chinese GPX enduro bike that --while the plastics are pure KTM -- the Yamaha knockoff engine still has its original boost bottle.
It's actually not a knockoff. Yamaha sold the rights and all the machinery to produce the DT230R engine to a chinese company.
So you're referring to non-USA DTs then? IIRC last year of the USA DT series was 1981 and they never went to that later chassis model shown in the Rest Of World pictures posted here. Then there was a 1 and done DT50 in that modern chassis like your pictures that was water cooled, etc. ~1989 model year only in CA where I lived. I test rode 1 and was REALLY temped to buy 1 but MSRP was like $975 and I was thinking where/when the hell would I ride this thing?
Our first wr125 just landed at the shop. Pretty underwhelming and over smogged.
Most DTs in Australia were sold as farm bikes and despite the old design, they perform that role perfectly, year after year, often with little to no maintenance. I can’t imagine the WR posted here could do the same.
This thread belongs in ds/adv...
That said... they are hard to get right now... and they are priced high... lowest otd I've been able to get is 4850 (sales tax not included).... and been quoted as high as 5400... while... last July I was able to get a new release drz4s for msrp otd...
They’re on the floor of every Yamaha dealer near me.
