Outside gate in all 3 motos and finished on the podium,

He’s planned to line up on 250 sx in 26, this would be a massive backwards step for his career progression,

He’s shown clearly with limited time on a 450 he’s ready to be in that class after just one night of racing,

I’m not a huge fan of Deegan’s antics but as a athlete and racer he can’t be denied, The 450 class will be better with him in it,

The 250 class will be better with him out of it

Yes the final race made him look a bit better. But in any other points system Craig beats him and maybe Savagty. Those two are the pace he was close to. last race he had a slight edge on Craig.

What did he finish 30secs behind Kenny in 12 laps or what ever it is? Right now if he lined up at A1 he is battling for 10th. I don't think it is a waste putting anther 250 season in. Otherwise he is going to end up like all these guys with a 250 sx title battling for 10th.

Yes he looked cool throwing it everywhere over the jumps. Even will commend him on improving on the whoops. Kid can ride berms.  But he has a bit to go.

Anyway he isn't ready. If he comes in now gets 8-10th for the year that isnt what their looking for.

Not a good look for the cringe lord last night... getting beat by Cooper and kroc... neither are top 5 in real sx... his team couldn't figure out how to pick a gate, while everybody else had no issue... then he looked stoked afff to finish third... like he won the thing or something... lmao.... basically another cringey night for deegs and crew...

ablys5

Reed was 6th in his first race. He hadn't even done a Lites race that season yet.

3rd in a WSX isn't comparable to a real supercross.

Also the person saying he has never ridden a 450 before. All we have heard from his squad is how fast he is on a 450 for months. He has been riding them for years. Just not primary focus.

Lastly whoever said Kenny was in the title until Chain derail. He was out of it a third of the way of it. Lets be real. typically Kennys second half of every SX championship is a wash. Some more than less. I think he was points leader or tied midway 2020. Than Web started battling Eli the 2nd half. I think Kenny got lapped twice in the mud that year. Crazy raw speed. He is extremely fast and only just out of the Tier 1 group. By a hair

Like when Hunter first jumped up to the 450, he stated that that is a big heavy machine or something to that effect.

Maybe if he wasn’t whipping the bike off all the jumps he wouldn’t be tired?

I think considering all the surrounding factors, it was about as good as we could expect. Not higher, not lower, just ok and that’s totally fine in the offseason. Remember how bad Webb was in the offseason a couple years ago? Didn’t mean much just establish a base on a new bike.

If it were my call I’d have him to an abbreviated 450 SX schedule like J coop did, and do 250 west. Skip the late season east coast rounds to prep for 450MX like Jett did. Worked pretty well for that guy.

You don't put him on the 450 straight away. Not because he couldn’t be decent. But because you risk him being burnt out to fully compete in the 450MX series. Where he is a possible contender.

I would have him top 5 atleast outdoors. But if things click he could be a podium regular and mixing it up for wins.

I know the dude is incredibly fit. But doing a 17 round SX season is tough. I think copying how Jett did it works best. Though a 450 race here and there when his coast is not racing wouldn’t hurt.

when people later review his career championships (which they always do) having another 250 SX Title will count more than at best top 5 finishes where he is overmatched in 450 by more experienced guys. He's probably more in the group of Stewart and Savatchy than podium than this year. I bet his family guidance will count more than what some posters here think is best for his development.

His family guidance is as good as anyone has ever had. And his record at this point is great. But the last, biggest step is to win in the 450s, and he’s as ready as anyone has ever been.

ready as anyone- according to you 🙃 If you want to look at great family guidance and results over the long term I'd look to the Tomac family as the best example with current champions. Get back to us when Deegan and his family have even half that record.

While the Tomacs and the Deegans have some massive differences, it looks to me like they both ended up in a similar position. HD has had world class coaching, trainers and equipment from early in his career, just like ET.

The results may or may not happen, but that doesn’t mean HD wasn’t ready. Sometimes racing is just ugly and sometimes riders don’t realize their potential..

Hot take. I think he had a pretty good 450 debut.

It's always important to not read too much into off-season races; it's hard to know who's actually trying, whose playing it safe to not get hurt, and who's there out of obligation or to collect a paycheck. Also, there's still lot of time between now and A1 to get bikes dialed in.

The best example of this would be the Monster Cup. A lot of top riders would show up, but only once in the 9 years they ran it did the winner go on to win the SX title the next year.

I thought it was an ok debut. I kind of expected him to be better than Savatgy and Craig. I don’t think the whole gate pick thing makes much of a difference, he’s so much faster than 15 to 5 or 6 it didn’t really hold him up that much.

I was more surprised how on edge he looked compared to the other riders. Cooper looked like he was cruising comparatively. Although I would like to see him in 450’s, I think there’s still value in another year of 250’s unless things look better, based on what can be seen from the TV. Keen to see him in person at the GC to see the differences though and whether he might be smoother in person.

Hunter didn’t even qualify for his first 450 main event. Let’s not act like this is the start of Deegans downfall.

Well he doesn't need to more strength if he burns clutches in 5 minutes.

Found this on wewentfast, next to that legendary 89 pic...

"In November 1989, 17-year-old Damon Bradshaw won the Osaka Supercross for the second consecutive year.  He beat Jean-Michel Bayle and defending AMA SX champ Jeff Stanton. One year earlier, he beat defending AMA SX champion Rick Johnson."

Puts in perspective Ralph repeating 4832 times "And he's only 19yo!" -and let's not even talk about what Jett was doing at 19, lol.

His start in the first race was like something you'd see a C rider racing his first ever moto do.  It brought tears of joy to my eyes.

(Sorry if the answers are buried in another thread somewhere)

To give the rest of the pack a chance to win.  Imagine if he didn't have fried clutches and got a holeshot...

Imagine if you weren’t allowed to use the word “if” when you cover for Deegs…

What 450 supercross did Jett race at 19?

Not SX, but he had just turned 19 when he hopped on a 450 for the first time and whooped everyone's asses at MXdN.

He did ok... In a field of Kenny and Anderson.. I wouldn't over hype it.

Did we hear during the broadcast that this was his first time out of the country? Thats wild.

What 450 supercross did Jett race at 19?

If I'm not mistaken, and even though it's not SX, Jett was still 19 for most races of his rookie perfect season on a 450.

As far as first official 450 races go, I have to say Lawrence at Fox Raceway impressed me a bit more than watching Deegan in Buenos Aires.

😏

He did better than I expected. He stayed upright and podiumed, that was awesome. He knows how to ride a 250 or 450 this kid is going to rip.

He was out of his element on the podium. When Germany’s anthem was playing he didn’t know what to do. It looked like Kenny gave him a little advice.

5-8 with a late season podium will be a solid first season.  Podium guy straight up outdoors

So Jett-Hunter-Deegan-(Chase,Eli,Prado any order you choose) outdoors? If he catches Chase or Eli with a bad day, OK, otherwise I'm not feeling it.

If you take Deegan's best track (Washougal?) perhaps. But that's a solid pack in outdoors next year.

I don't think 250 championships count that much in the GOAT (I hate that term) discussions.

If moving up one SX season sooner costs him a 250SX championship, but gains him a 450SX championship down the road, I think that's worth much more to his career accolades.

He already has more 250 championships than either Dungey or Tomac (for instance).
