Parents have been wanting my old trophies out of their house for many years now, I don’t think I can kick the can down the road anymore. They are going to take up so much space if I store them, not to mention the totes of plaques, helmets etc.. I know there’s a thousand others that have had to deal with this 🥴

Keep the ones that mean the most or were the biggest races. Trash the rest

"Noooooo, not my 7th place plaque for 125C from 2006! I can't bear to part with it!

...but I'm kind of in the same deal as OP. I can't throw it away! But what am I gonna do with my 7th place plaque from 125C from 2006?

I just won my first trophy for 44 years

I put it with my 3rd place in the BDMCC 1981 125cc club championship.

I’ve been down this road… I kept hundreds of trophies/ plaques/ awards from 15 years of racing with my son. When I did a major cleaning one year, I threw out most of the trophies, except the bigger event ones and the 4’+ tall ones. Kept the gold cups and still have 5 boxes of plaques and other awards that he got.
I’m on another major cleaning now and these are all going to end up in the trash, if he doesn’t want to deal with them. I’ve tried to donate them, in case someone wanted to repurpose them for another event and swap out the motorcycle on them. But couldn’t find any takers.

Keep it, only have one.

I have a 3rd place club 250cc trophy, there were only 3 of us that lined up, A National Champ, another pro, and me a C grade chump, they lapped me in 3 laps. Still I was 3rd.

I have too many and I'm going to trash them.  They collect dust and there's no way I'm spending time dusting them off.  Take good photos of them before you trash them, and then good riddance.

I keep saying that one day I’m going to take all my meaningful trophies and put the little brass engraved pieces on a nice piece of oak. Been saying that for over decade. One day I will though.

All the tall trophies are in my parents attic laying on their side. Looks so sad up there.

I dumped my race trophy’s years ago.  I moved them around with me for a few years but after a while it was best to dump them.  Nobody that looked at the cared other than me lol.  When you get a divorce you’ll get rid of a lot of things!

I don't have many trophies, but I'm keeping them.  If I had a lot of them, or acquire a lot of them in the future, I'd keep most of the first place, plus the ones that have a memory attached.  If you look at a trophy, medal, or plaque and can't remember any details, you probably won't miss it.

But of the few I have, most have a very cool memory that they remind me of.  That alone makes them worth keeping around, and they'll probably mean even more as time goes on.  I've lost several trophies for non-sports that meant something to me as well, and they're missed, not for ego sake, but for the accomplishments and memories they remind me of.

I kept the ones from when I won a series or a big race, plus a few that are really special. My first win, for instance.

Last year I finally threw away my 2nd O/A from the World Mini in 2001. I don't know what hurt more - winning a moto but coming in 2nd, or throwing away a 6' tall trophy!

Set them all up somewhere, take a few good pictures, then throw all the less desirable ones out

That’s what I did and it helps the local clubs a lot. I grabbed out four of no real particular significance or order, just to have. Glad I kept out a few after forty years to have and think about those memories.

So you've been making your parents store them all this time? And now it's a problem that YOU have to deal with them? Interesting take 🤔

You could do what my dad did when I moved out, which was throw them in a box and throw shit on them breaking most of them then getting the shits with them and demand you come get them out of his shed haha

I kept a couple that were special, the rest I gave to our local track to give out. The promoter  have a few free entries.

I figure that I can look at them when I'm 90, the memories will come rushing back, for now they are covered with junk & dust down the back shed.

Did they lap you on their 3rd lap or your 3rd lap?

Trashed all mine but a few. Just have a handful left and some newer ones.

Put them on Ebay.  There are people who collect that.  Get some money out of your sweat!

A bunch of mine went to the trash, or there was a club I raced with that gave a free entry for not taking the trophy. The 6-8 I kept are gonna be my kids problem whenever I kick the bucket.. maybe they’ll read my scrawled notes on the back/bottom and think about how the slow ass old man they remember was a little better when he was young?

Keep a few, you can show them to people a few decades later when they don’t believe you were a racer. Pitch the rest.

Peel the engraved plate and give the trophy back to the track.

I made a board with my son's plates. Takes up a lot less space.

My parents sold my childhood home in 1981 and I had to clean out my room.  I took my trophies to the Sunnyvale dump (along with other stuff) and the dump attendant took them out and put them around the dump payment station.  I went to the dump again about 4 years later and my trophies were still there!

This is the most forward thinking approach.

My head ain't just a hat rack. 😆

Saves everyone except for the trophy maker.

Oh, and thank you for appreciating my plan.
