I thought craigslist used to be bad but I think this place might be worse. So far I've been offered a 95 Chevy, that old Suzuki/ kawasaki 250f. The best one was a cane Corso puppy 😄 that one I might have considered if I had time for a dog. I can't even imagine trying to part a bike out on there, holy crap what a nightmare that would be.
My theory on MP. Price it just below Market (or more) and sell it quick - that way it sells quick and you don't have to stick handle the endless wack jobs or the crazy trade offers. I offered my kid as accessory along with the bike but had no offers...........................can't blame them, he's PIA but sold both bikes on same day.
I sell and trade a lot pool cues on MP, some of the low balls just make me smile. The trade offers get more outlandish by the day. You just have to deal with it....It also does not hurt to have some humor with the more ridiculous offers.
Lots of bikes being stolen from people selling them on MP in my neck of the woods. Just an FYI
Came here to say that. Very standard practice in the Houston area now. "Can you meet me at the park?" (by a huge drainage ditch or highway). Test rides off into the sunset.

So funny you posted this today. I listed an Arai helmet late last night and put the size in capital letters in the title and the description. I’ve gotten 5 inquires asking me for the size 🙄
Yep my yz450f was stolen and I think due to marketplace listing.
I don’t think it’s stupid people, unfortunately. I think they are skimming posts and using it as a starting point to gauge how vulnerable you are. Any time I’m selling something I take a look at their profile and see if anything is odd. It’s a total cesspool to get scammed, ripped off, etc etc.
They are all looking for an XS.
Hell, I've got a couple of items I'd like to move along and the thought of dealing with people on MP or anything like that has me wanting to haul it all for scrap instead.
Just sold a bike and got it done in 2 days. Took decent pictures, listed it just below what most of the other bikes were at, and got plenty of interest. Told the guy beforehand what the price would be as there was other interest and that was it.
FB is wrong-side political crap, so there's that.
2 identical or near identical pictures of the unwashed bike. Vital information omitted. And a description that includes “Reluctant sale”, and/or “Need it gone”.
A reflection of the community we live in, unfortunately.
It’s the same on dating apps. EG being contacted by prospective partners, that haven’t read the profile - maybe they can’t read, or reading is really difficult.
The basics have become rare.
My theory is that with Craigslist you at least had one barrier to communication that would stop total idiots from impulsively messaging you. Not like it was super difficult, but you had to click a link then write an or type the number into your phone before you could call or text. With FB you can just message directly on the ad and it seems like you get way more inquiries from people who have 0 interest in actually buying it.
I just sold a 23 300sx on Market place, I had to block a dozen people and just deleted a ton of ridiculous questions/trade offers...
Is this still available?
Not interested just wanted to know.
They are also using the map location it shows on the posting to come drive around searching for someone who may have a dirtbike.
One guy in my state posted on there, and replied to some sketchy looking profile. Told them he lived near such and such church.
House near the church got broken into and a gun stolen a couple days later after the guy told him he wouldn’t be able to come for a couple weeks.
Then his 3 bikes got stolen.
I won’t even entertain putting my bike on Marketplace because of shit like that.
I’d like to sell my old 250F, but it’s not worth the breach of security for $3000ish dollars.
I’ll just hold on to it as a backup bike unless a friend or friend of a friend needs a bike.
I've sold a few items on there w/ no issues but, it seems like dirtbikes or stock take offs from your truck bring out the riff raff
Guess just lucky live in a safe area as bought and sold many bikes through marketplace. Like mentioned I do look at profiles before responding and if sketchy looking I ignore. Funny store, did have a bike for sale and a sketchy profile responding and I ignored. A couple days later they replied again asking if I was going to respond so I did. They actually ended up buying the bike so guess can’t always judge a book by its cover but do recommend trusting your instincts, they are right 9 out of 10 times
Pit Row
Ok but I’ll trade you a converted school bus for it
It doesn’t run and hasn’t been off my property for 25 years, you’ll have to come pick it up
Take the pictures somewhere other than your house. I won’t meet anywhere except next to the local police department. Never go alone. And if you’re able, carry.
This is sage advice.
Exactly. Just tell them the meeting location will be a police department. If they’re planning on stealing from you they will try to convince you to meet somewhere else or just move on. It doesn’t hurt to give the department a call and let them know you’ll be meeting someone in the parking lot. Sometimes they’ll even come out and hang out.
Also, it’s really not that hard to see red flags on social media. If they have normal interactions with people, a normal amount of friends and a normal sounding name then they’re most likely not going to steal from you. If they have a total of 3 friends who look like pornstars and have a name like Kyng Ballaz, then it’s probably best to avoid them.
I have a Honda 250F mod’d up trail bike I’d like to flip but dread putting it on MB Market Place, which unfortunately best option. I may take it up my friend that own’s a Beta dealership and pay commission.
Houston Facebook MP is as bad as any.
Sold a car on FB a few years ago. Almost immediately after posting a guy messages me and says he wants to come buy it and has cash. No questions about the car, its condition, no dickering on price, etc. Checked his profile which included mostly photos of a guy (presumably him) with guns and wads of cash sitting on a table or in the background. Uh no, sorry, it just sold!!
We've got guys up here who arent even contacted that get their bikes stolen. They figure out where the seller lives from their FB profile and break in their garage/house. Crazy shit

Fuck you Facebook!!!
How in the world can you make a post about silly trade offer political. Turn off your TV for a week man.
I’m still trying to figure out what he even meant by that. I don’t have social media, but is Facebook considered favorable to one party ? Weird…
One that got me a few years ago was I had our KTM 85 for sale. I get offered a Husky 85 that was a year older. I was like in what world does this make any sense at all. I don't get what is wrong with people.
