On the broadcast, Weege says repeatedly that there is no competitive situation between Hunter and Jett. Do you get that?
As a racer, I just can’t imagine that Hunter is ok with getting second repeatedly. We’ve all raced with great friends, but we are not ok losing to them. He’s cordial on the podium, but you have to know inside he’s chewing nails.
I don’t have any brothers but all the.brothers I know want to best them even more than their friends.
Last question…if Hunter is somehow able to start winning consistently, would Jett be as cool as Hunter has been about it?
He keeps getting beat by his teammate and little brother. Im sure that doesn't sit well with him.
He is fine with it. He has known for years Jett has the edge. He is loading his bank account and my guess is he checks out before Jett does knowing financial incentives is the thing keeping him going.
If you know the back story how they ground their way through to where they are today it makes sense.
I would have to assume he's "competitive," but it's a thing where he has the exact same tools as Jett: same dad, same trainer, same bike, same staff. With all the variables controlled for he only has his immutable self to search for the answer to winning. In my mind at least it would somewhat calm my competitive drive to know that the only guy I can't beat has the exact same equipment and training and almost the exact same genetics. As Hunter himself says, Jett's just an alien.

Idk, but he appears to be getting faster.
I'm sure he wants to beat him, but what do you think will happen? Hunter seems pretty smart, he would know that going to another team for anything other than a lot more money would probably not result in a better performance from him, the Lawrence unit seems to work pretty well to elevate them both.
I dont think he gives a shit. He's won a real title. 1 more then my hero DB 45.
Exactly.
He roams around his beautiful home, peers out into his garage full of bad ass cars, cashes healthy checks from Honda HRC every week.
Has a blast during the week, riding and training with the class clown, then goes out and has been kicking the shit out of the rest of the field.
Life's good for big Bro.
Edit:
Check out his Gypsy tales interview.
Hunter suffered compressed vertebrae when racing MXGP, he's still not and may never be 100%.
Based on the Gypsy interview he has made peace with the fact that Jett is faster. I am sure running 2nd and the associated bonus checks makes it easier to accept.
The other 99.040% of the week these dudes are both living like kings. I'm sure he would love to beat his brother but it's not worth pushing it and risking an injury. Win bonuses add up and they are both making great money. Plus I think its been proven by now that not many guys out there are beating Jett straight up.
They're brothers. Close brothers. Hunter was faster until he wasn't. If they fight over anything it's probably corn hole or Call of Duty.
100% buy it. They're living the dream. He keeps getting better, only losing to the GOAT- elect, who happens to be his brother who he helped mold.
I can see someone offering him enough money for him to go be #1 on another team but even if that happens I doubt anything else about the dynamic changes.
You can’t operate at this level without being a fierce competitor. The dichotomy between being a great brother and a fierce competitor is what is interesting.
Like we all feel sometimes competitive against our siblings, he probably feels it too from time to time. He enjoyed without a doubt winning the first moto this weekend. But then again he (probably) feels proud for the accomplishments his brother is putting down and for his own accomplishments because both are kicking the whole field their asses.
Hunter is very competitive, a lot more than he appears to be. It does burn him up that he can't beat Jett (yet), but as you can see he's starting to get closer. He'll eventually take a win from Jett.
remember how cool it was when everybody wasn't using "narrative" to describe everything?
There’s a backstory about them grinding to get to where they are today? Wow, someone should probably break this story!!!!!!
I don’t think anyone has ever heard about this.
Pit Row
There wouldnt be a thread about it if people connected the backstory to it, would it. You didn't connect it either I see. It's fine. Everybody can't be at the top of their game.
Going from not even be able to buy normal food, without a home in a different part of the world to where you grew up. Yeah, you are going to be happy with millions in your bank account and a family not having to worry about money for the rest of their life.
Getting beat by your brother is ok.
Pretty awesome that these 2 brothers are dominating like they are….Hunter is keeping Jett honest and if something should happen …like a Dnf or minor injury to Jett…Hunters hard work will pay off….its a great time to be an Australian MX fan….
I know I'd get sick of my snot nosed little brother beating me all the time and my competitive spirit is not in the same galaxy as those guys .
I buy it. I think he’s extremely proud of Jett and if he himself can’t be TFMOTP, he’s ecstatic that it’s his lil bro.
I am sure it gets to Hunter to some extent that he can't beat Jett but I don't think it eats at him. That family appears to have an amazing perspective on things. Watch this video from 14:48 - 16:24. Kinda tells you all you need to know about Hunter.

I have a younger brother who is faster, hes the fastest in our group that ride together. I want to beat him every time...just saying.
I think Hunter was faster at Millville and looked to have a way better handling bike.
Hunters getting dragged towards Jetts pace I believe.
Coincidently, I called my brother last week to wish him a happy bday and he cursed me out for passing him on my 80 when he was on a CR480. That was 43 years ago. My brother is really happy and has done exceptionally well in life, but it sounds like it still stings...😉
I don’t think that it would automatically make him satisfied with being beaten just because he and his family had nearly nothing. If anything, it would seem like it would make that competitive drive higher.
Everyone I’ve ever met who ‘came from nothing’ and became very, very successful has an almost insatiable drive to win, even when they could stop and enjoy their successes a bit more. That drive is what got them to be successful in the first place.
I think that knowing that you’re often beating everyone but your brother might take a little bit of sting out of it, but I don’t think that Hunter is just accepting things that way and not trying everything he can to find some kind of improvement in order to start beating Jett more often.
At this stage of their careers, they probably aren’t actually pooling all their winnings 50/50 style and it sounds like those race win bonuses are maybe 3-4 times what second place pays. It would be difficult to see your brother bringing in upwards of $2M in bonuses alone while you’re collecting a couple hundred thousand.
And Hunter seems like the guy who will say the right things but is very hard on himself for not winning. Could be wrong.
Hunter should be so proud of himself for how much he's progressed. They're both mega talented, but the contrast between the two is a testament that innate talent exists if I ever saw one, and RC is wrong. Hunter is an elite level mortal. Jett is not a mortal.
Interestingly, hunter is the more cerebral of the two. Awesome trait in life, can be a detractor in Sport. Jett seems to be pure feel based on what we've seen/heard.
I think the main issue is the media can't seem to find an edge to really make a story about with the Lawrence's. After they had a go at picking fights with people (i.e. Anderson, Barcia) the reality is being a tough guy doesn't make money, winning does. And no one can really say anything when you beat the field by 10 seconds.
Regarding Lawrence's, they're from a tradie dad background and if anything, Hunter has done "his part" racing / returning the wealth to the family. He was almost going to retire once before, and has had more injuries than Jett. He also is the reason Jett got hired onto Geico as well (not that Jett wouldn't have done well regardless, but them being a package deal worked well). And if they have done it properly, none of them will need to lift a finger once they both retire from riding if they don't want to.
In 20 years, if Hunter was stuffing Jett into corners and making them both go slow, they'd only be worse off financially, risk injury and have bigger grudges. Hunter is still a top 5 motocross rider in the world and arguably the only one that can give Jett a decent fight right now.
Anyway, I wish moto media would chill out and focus on the racing, not the nonexistent "mind games". Even in other main stream sports there is often nothing there. Max Verstappen just wants to drive cars and majority of the drivers hang out with other. In tennis, most of the players are friendly with each other and pair up occasionally for different charitable events (and sometimes doubles). Just focus on the sport and the racing / playing.
