Pretty sure once you advance from an area qualifier you can hit every regional to get a ticket.
OK, you made me read the rules. https://mxsports.com/how-to-qualify
It looks like the first step is you need to go to an area qualifier. Riders may attempt to qualify in as many Area Qualifiers, in as many regions, as they choose. Depending on the region, you would need to finish between the top 9 and top 12 of your class to qualify for regionals.
If you qualify for regionals, you must attend the regional qualifier from the area qualifier that you qualified through. (So if you qualified through the Glen Helen area qualifier, you must attend the Pala regional qualifier).
At the regionals, you need to finish top 4 or top 6 (depending on region) to make it to Loretta's.
My buddy from PA, Broc RUPERT,
has a terrific take on this entire brouhaha….
You know they’ll get a electrical/water hook up lol

Mxsports will get Tate into Loretta’s just like they did last year when he didn’t make it. Mxsports want the publicity from the reeds being there.
Tate will get in as an alternate. He finished 8th in his regional.
Fk it I’ll bite..
Dude has the most all time starts, raced well into his 30’s and wasn’t even competitive.
Checked his ego and battled for top 10’s.. if that isn’t a guy that loves racing dirt bikes then who is?
Wonder if he can get his pro license as an alternate. Daddy can only have pull for so long...unless we truly get into a sport where money alone gets rides and not talent. I'm sure that day is coming.
I'm not mad at the Reed's for trying, but I'm a little surprised Chad doesn't force Tate to make it through qualifying, not as an alternate.
Oh man Ellies got another 6 months of instagram books to write! Hardships,The Turmoil,All the Gatedrops she had,pay the YouTube producer,The struggles of the having to sell and move million dollar homes 3 times,The spotlight fading and now we are going to lorrettas!!
Her and all the other moto wives harping on about their husbands career that finished 7 years ago ...oh wait,it's only her..
So only alternates with a famous last name get in?
Not a fan I take it?
The regional at Unadilla has not even started racing yet. It's practice today (Friday) and motos Sat and Sun.
No, but I think the quote below applies to most pro athlete's who's kids don't "make it". I think the Reed's are in the good times phase. Not hating, just voicing my opinion. I'm sure my kids won't make it to the pros in sports either. I certainly didn't.
"Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times"
Now that I have kids I find it really interesting to see why some kids excel and some don't. Why money can help some kids with sports and future careers, but for others it doesn't make a difference. I think we see this in society as a whole, not just sports.
I was probably hating a little too much on Tate in my last post.
I bite every year and I’ll leave it at this
World Vet Nationals happens every year just like Loretta’s
Get there and be ready to RACE…
What are you on about? Nothing has even happened. Start watching the videos a bit, it gives you some insight on Chads perspective.
I know tons of dudes who got in as alternates the left way simply because of injury, finances, etc.
Just simply enjoy yeah?
I think there needs to be a "Former Pro" Vet class for these guys to race. Who wouldn't want to see that? Brown, Emig, McGrath, Reed, Stewart, RC, Villopoto, Short? Imagine all those guys on the track at once and nobody has to complain that they don't get to win their +30 trophy. We'd probably see guys like Barry Carsten, Guy Cooper and John Dowd, too. Maybe get a Chupacabra sighting?
Devils advocate. key word. +30 Trophy!
I always thought alternates was to help people that were clearly good enough that missed out because of something out of their control. If you were in the qualifying, but didn't qualify because you just did not get the results, I'd imagine you are not meant to be there.
Pit Row
I think it’s okay if former pros race Loretta’s but I feel like their qualifying spot should kinda be considered a bonus or something. Like if top 6 qualify for Loretta’s, and first place is a multi-time pro champion, maybe we let 7th place go to Loretta’s as well. It’s cool to race against him but he did take that spot from a true amateur
The gate at Loretta's only has 42 spots on it.
Not true at all, Loretta’s wants full gates/ entry fees. Most people qualify for more classes than they are allowed to race. So if you got 10th, but needed to get 6th. And now 4 of those people ahead of you decide not to race that class, you are the. Eligible as an alternate. And if you decide not go the person after you is then selected.
If Tate finished 8th at the regional and paid his dues as an alternate standby, he will get in. Typically, 5 to 10 riders who only do this as a hobby call it the day after regional and do not go to Lorretta's because parents don't want to spend the money or have the time to take off work or get injured and request a refund. I am one of them where regionals is the end of the road for me.
As for getting a pro license, it does not matter if you got straight in or was an alternate, the points come from where you finish at the national. Events are weighted based on the number of ranked riders that attend it, so he could earn more points for a poor finish at a big event like Lorretta's compared to other AMA sanctioned events and get enough points to apply for his license. In the past, if a B rider was on a registered team such as Star Yamaha, they could apply to get their license if they did not earn enough points from racing.
Yeah but that would exclude the fast vets now that never got a 5th or whatever at a national. Not everyone races for the final flag I call it. Some race just to lead a lap and could careless where they finish.
There's a few of us here that aren't.
I know next to nothing about Loretta’s but fuck me there's some salty people here about a guy that wants to race a dirtbike.
Cool little boy fan club you got there
Are you so good that you think you could actaully race with any pro? Or is just sharing the track at the same time considered racing?
I was speaking hypothetically. If it was a class of 15 racers, and I beat all of them except the former pro, I'd feel it was a good day.
I'm all for kids that get in as a alternate. But his little comment last year when he got checked in about should be 3 classes rubbed me wrong.
He raced lake sugar tree. That's where he got an 8th.
