Anaheim Supercross Futures a few years back. My buddies and I raced it and we told ourselves it would be a win to come out in one piece. The ambulance was in and out of there all day long. There was never a time during the whole day that an ambulance wasn't there. 🙁
I was at Cahuilla today. First, I hope everyone involved makes a full recovery. Second, holy shift that was a lot of riders! The most I have ever seen at a track. Southern California is at a breaking point with the amount of riders per track ratio. I really hope Lake Elsinore reopens and also LACR.
Some of the jump faces at Cahuilla will send you flying in a crazy and unexpected direction if you’re not careful.
Perris was also packed today but I did not see any ambulances! Track conditions were not great though.

Practice started at 7:00AM, first races were supposed to start at like 9:00, didn’t start till 11:00….If I said there were 30 ambulance rides throughout the first motos I would be underselling it. The amount of red flags and restarts sent the schedule into absolute chaos & we left before the second motos ever got underway.
Watching practice videos from CA gives me anxiety. Too many people of different skills at the same time.
This crap didn't happen when we rode 125s and 250s. The bikes are too fast for 90% of us
The last time I went to Cahuilla I witnessed a young man lose his life while his father held him in his arms. I can’t bring myself to go back there again. How he crashed it could have happened at any track but that place seems cursed. Way too many life flights going in/out of that place
Nailed it. I keep hearing about how we need to make tracks safer, now every local track is a glorified vet track with ski jump lips and somehow the injury rate is even higher. Slow the tracks down, add some technical features, and stop making them flat freeways because this experiment clearly isn’t working.
I see an ambulance about every 5th ride or so. I’ve only seen 2 helicopters in my entire riding career. I have witnessed a couple of fatalities though unfortunately.

Was really bad at Barona this morning as well. Their EMT cart also crosses the track on the downside of a jump with oncoming traffic and got hit today. Rolled the cart right over and the rider was on the ground for a while

When I see videos/go pros of the tracks in California (minus Glen Helen) they all look super smooth and fast highways compared to what we ride in the Midwest. Maybe it’s just the camera but can see more serious injuries with the high speeds out there.

It's not just the camera, that's how it is out here. I personally hate it, but apparently I'm in the minority on that. LACR was very popular and it was the worst of the worst of what you're describing. It also doesn't help that so many of these fast tracks have long jumps in areas that regularly have high winds.

Non moto response, but on the Las Vegas strip at about 8:00 am... Right about the time people are walking up from the night of partying and realizing their friends are not waking up... It was just a drive through of ambulances. Not sure if I was there on a bad day or if it is a regular thing.

The 1991 St Petersburg, FL amateur SX race was none stop ambulance rides and thankfully Bayfront medical center was just a couple minutes away. That was the one and only amateur SX race I ever competed in after watching the carnage.
Went to a race in Western NY 2023. We used every ambulance and firs truck in the county - use all from neighbouring county and eventually thge fire marshal showed up and said we have nothing left and if there is an accident or medical emergency he would be screwed. Race was shutdown. Not gonna name the track - it wasn't totally tracks fault, smoking hot day and and just lost control of the watering.
Tracks are too fast.
4 ambulances and one helicopter years ago at pacific raceways.
3 Air ambulances, a place built on an old civil war battlefield in the UK. Was notorious for people getting hurt.
I disagree.
moto has evolved into what it is today because riders and bikes have improved so much over the last 20 years.
It’s not as easy as it used to be for sure, but as dirt bikes get more capable, riders get fitter and more skilled, there is a demand for tracks that are more challenging.
Out in my area, tracks are packed with skilled riders of all ages doing all the jumps and rhythm sections.
Sometimes people crash dirt bikes. That is all.
Its progression of the sport. You got vet novices doing jumps that in the ‘90s were pro only jumps. During sx i remember them saying something about an 83 foot jump like it was so big. 83 foot jumps are on every local track now.

If you ride a dirt bike, you are going to crash, are you more likely to walk away from a crash at low speed or a crash at high speed?
