Not going to lie. I was going to wait for both the Triumph and this to test a year or two before jumping ship from the Austrian stuff, but now I am thinking I might have to drop a deposit.

You only live once, do it.  If your not a brand loyalist, getting and all new and different bike is awesome.

Pirelli MX 32 is okay, but Dunlop MX34 or MX3S would be the better choice. the MX 34 rear is the far superior tire.

Bike looks good and has most of the right bits on it, but the big question is how it steers and how manageable the power is - hopefully it will be the opposite of a YZ 450.

Seewer and Guad making the bike look good in MXGP, but who knows how close the factory ride is to the production bike?

So funny I’ve ridden mx34 and Pirelli mx32 back to back same bike and I think the Pirelli is massively better tire. The mx34 breaks loose on corner exit at 5% throttle without warning to me, where the Pirelli can take so much more throttle without breaking loose.

The US bikes will have Dunlops.

13.5:1 compression ratio is pushing the limits of 91 pump gas. Does anyone with technical knowledge have any thoughts on that?

He's also one of the hardest riders on equipment, not sure if he'd want the growing pains.

I think if they brought him on the team with the right expectations on both parties it could be really sweet. What a cool way to end the career, especially if he was able to secure their first win.

My Triumph 250 has a 14.4:1 compression ratio and runs fine on pump gas.

I wouldn't worry about it, sportbikes have been there (13ish) for 20 years and no one puts race gas in them.

Pretty sure most Japanese brands say 15 hours for piston, per the manual.  Let's face it, who does that ?!

I can't reach my old CRE500 manual at the moment, but I think it called for piston replacement at somewhere like 15 hours.

I've gone over that time, a few times since 2002. My average seems to be 200+ hours - but, I spend most of my time on the Pilot Jet and,  the Needle Circuit, in my terrain / riding.

The 63.5?(HP) claim is nothing spectacular for Brochure claims - I think Honda list something like that? No 450 has a dearth of power. Not even the long in the tooth Suzuki - they've more than enough for me - and most others if they are honest - when I've had a tootle on them ( and I love the RMZs handling, more than the others) .

To the poster that seems to think the Ducatis' power claims are somewhat extreme  / on the edge of what's possible  - cripes, you could get So Much More than that - but it wouldn't be ridable in MX / Offroad, for any rider. 450s are very mildly tuned engines, in terms of possible outright power. Hell, even 250 4ts, for that matter. It's got to be manageable, and, it's got to Not have too much of a tendency to go Boom!

As a frame maker, I admire how few parts make up their frame - I think it may be less than the YZ 2ts. My DH frames have around 120 parts to them., since I decided to make them all steel 😂 - I'm a Foolish Old Man with that choice, I think. So Much Work To Make . Ducati have become Masters in the area of Cast Frames / Frame Components.

I feel the potential game changer is not as much max power as it is electronics suite, Ducati are very good at this.

Someone on this forum: “Another red KTM?”

It looks more like an ugly chinese knockoff CRF.

Not an ounce of brand personality.

After owning a Ducati 1098s and endless Honda MX bikes.

Ducati loves to build special R models and Tri colour models.

Wait until Ducati makes a works edition it will be sick.

They have the fastest Superbike and Motogp bike.

It certainly does look a little different.  Only thing i can think is the factory bike set up looks very Honda like, in terms of the seat, side panels and rear fender, which they wanted to move away from.  The production Ducati has more of a unique look.

They didn’t change much from the original design. Bottom line of the seat has a change. I’m not a fan of the front fender. The rest looks nice though. Reasonably unique.

The traction control uses what they say is "inertial measurement of the vehicle dynamics" which is what is what is used for the very advanced streetbike electronics from every manufacture. I think there is far too many variables in dirt for it to make a big difference but a new addtion nonetheless.

I do wish they would quit calling this stuff traction control, you cant have true traction control without a rear wheel speed sensor. Its like measuring miles per hour by how much your hair is blowing in the wind.

they need to hit the dirt in us soil. see people ride them over here. the hype is already bigger than beta and triumph if you ask me.

With Ducati's history no way it will flop.

4/4/2025 6:29am

Love your analogy. Absolutely correct. They claim this is the first TC based on rear wheel data. Unlike a car where each wheel has to be individually monitored, they could get rear-wheel speed simply off of crank speed and transmission position. Ducati has always had impressive electronics and I'm very curious to see how they tackle this. I've always thought it wasn't an issue of getting rear wheel speed data but rather understanding what the rest of the bike is doing so it doesn't cut power every time the rear wheel starts spinning up because it could be from loosing traction or from going through the transitions in between rollers or whoops.

Very curious.

I want one.

I wish I was still riding/racing because that bike is stunning. The ME edition is one of the best looking bikes I've ever seen stock. Well done Ducati...well done.

I had a ducati 1098 and it kinda reminded me of a ferrari with how you needed to service it at exact intervals at the dealer with all the paperwork of everything ever done to it kept or else it will lose a lot of value. Theres no way the dirt bike is going to be like that right? I didnt even keep it long enough to have to do any of that stuff so I never really found out how much of a pain it was, but I didnt realize it was so crazy until I was already buying it.
