Looks like my son and are getting the awesome opportunity to crew for one of the privateer teams. We will be there Friday and Saturday. Where is a safe place to park?

Yes lots of parking!

Just get down close to the stadium and there is a parking garage, car lots for the Tiger's baseball stadium, and many lots that are like $20 or so.  Just fit in there and walk a block or 2 you should be good.  Downtown has Tiger's, Lion's, Red Wings & Pistons plus concert halls so lots of parking and it's all good.

I generally don't like taking my truck as its always hard to fit in everywhere but doable, a car is better.

Much appreciated Ramrod! Glad to know there are many open lots near the stadium.

Take this with a grain of salt. Most people that live there echo what others have said about it being pretty safe until you get into some of the suburbs.

Detroit's crime rates, especially violent ones, are higher than the national average. Detroit was once ranked the second most violent city in the US. Property crimes in Detroit are also above the national average. Detroit has historically had high rates of violent crime, but theft is the most common crime.

Some of you guys need to turn off the news and close your browser and experience things first hand. Downtown Detroit is not scary. The Red Wings games down there are often sell-outs, even at night. You are not going to get pulled into a dark warehouse and forced to rap-battle for your life. lol

Oakland is by far the most dangerous city to host a supercross. I was stunned at the amount of crime I saw before going into the stadium parking. The area at and around the stadium in Detroit is by far safer.  Philly is a uneasy city in many areas but where the stadium is it's very safe. We have some day races and this is a east coast event. Let us have a good race time once or twice a year in the winter months. geezzz

WTF? If I hadn't seen this thread I would have had no idea they changed it. I decided to go for the first time in years to see Jett vs Eli. That's cooked. I wonder how many people are aware of the change to the start time?

Feld knows they're not going to draw families into the city at night.....

Yeah it's actually a very noticeable difference, especially with the Sun out.

Cloudy and 40% chance of snow Saturday in Detroit, sun isn’t warming anything up.

There is a reason they're running the race at noon in that city and you know it.

You're wrong.

Going to Detroit SX for the first time. Anyone have any parking suggestions if you have a lifted truck? Didn't want to take it, but looks like 4"-6" of more snow up there on Saturday. Also, does your normal ticket get you in for the morning practices?

I usually park here with mine.  It’s a surface lot next to the stadium.  Has a parking attendant.  There’s a few bigger spots as well.

Check out parkopedia or parkwhiz. There are much cheaper options not that far away.

Yes there are cheaper lots nearby, but this is right near the stadium.  With the cold and snow, it’s worth paying the premium to not have to walk 8 blocks.

detroit is fine. its atlanta where  anything not bolted down gets taken. i will never go to atlanta for anything. i've did all the big domes for years with supercrosses etc.. atlanta we had to bring the bikes in the rooms with us because the vans would be gone next morning.  we had to disable our vans every nite....and still come out and windows were broke and they tried to take them.

Ya, so guys scared of the city (you) will still buy a ticket.   Or just stay safe in your basement on the internet.

There's a bunch of surface lots between Grand River avenue and the west side of baseball stadium that would be good for parking your truck.

Detroit has a bad reputation but here in the upper Midwest we don't have huge homeless camps on the street like there are on the West Coast where the weather is nice. Don't go looking for trouble and it's more than likely you won't find any.

Went to the Detroit race once, seemed safe enough, pretty empty city really. Perhaps the early start is the very real threat of driving late at night in snowstorms. When we left the race the time we went, the black ice on the highways was treacherous. Living where I have the past 60 years forecasting Great Lakes winter weather is a roll of the dice.

Detroit has done a good job of cleaning up the that area. They wouldn't have put all the sports arenas is the same area if nobody would go.

Some of us don't mind walking a little way if it means saving 50 bucks. Most of us are used to this weather.

If you park too far away you'll miss out on that sweet traffic jam / demo derby when everyone tries to leave at the same time.

Exactly. I had a spot lined up a few blocks away that allowed me a pretty easy exit. I bailed on going though. I'm not a fan of big cities even though that area of Detroit is actually pretty cool and has been for years now. Sold my tix and will watch from the comfort of my couch Smile

Yeah people need to realize any area around a football stadium is going to be nice and safe. The city devotes a lot of resources to keep these areas safe and enjoyable to visit because they draw in tens of thousands of people and their money every home game/concert/race etc.

With the exception of Atlanta maybe because its mostly highways and stuff around their stadium not much business.
