Gypsy and Pulp are very different to me. Both do a great job.
There is a ton of long form interviews in the archives for The Steve Matthes show. I've listened to a ton of these and the interviews are good.
Lowly fan here. Met Steve 3 different times at 3 different events in the last 5 years. Nice as could be, talked a little bit of history and current Moto. Didn’t try to keep him too long since I realize being at the races is his job. When did you meet him and what was your experience?
We need both! They aren't doing or competing for the same thing for the listeners, so both are good to go. If you don't like Pulp, listen to the Vital/Swap/Main Event Moto/Title24 etc race reviews instead, but you can't really substitute Gypsy and Pulp b/c they're not doing the same thing for us listeners. Fwiw, I listen to everything I mentioned above every week lol. Not complaining about anything other than LvK and those two making up reasons to win an argument with each other haha

Gypsy pulled me back into this sport by having mountain bike guys on that I wanted to listen to and then slowly listening to more moto content. At first I could hardly listen, but now he is my favorite. The people who say that Americans prefer to listen to Americans are right, at least for me. There is a Mtb podcast that I want to love, but I just can’t listen to the UK accent for very long. Gypsy would be the exception for me, I actually like his accent. I do hate the use of bro non stop (I’ve hated that word ever since it started getting over used when I was in high school) but I’ve gotten used to it. I have to say the only reason I own a dirt bike again is because of him.
Mathes is a prick. Some of it is just an act I think, but he literally whines non stop on his show. I love Keefer and his other co hosts, but I can’t stand him. I do still listen to it though.

Ive always thought that the hate that Matthes got was because of his ego, ridiculous takes, and his “better than everyone” attitude. Judging by the amount of upvotes on your comment, maybe I have been seeing it all wrong 😂
I do think there is somewhat of a generational difference that separates viewers as well though.
Either way, we live in a great time to be fans of the sport. New moto content EVERY SINGLE DAY.

I’m curious if Tomac came on the Gypsy podcast on his own or Monster had some influence on that. If I remember correctly, Gypsy had a Monster logo on his collar during a Race Day live interview. I wonder if Monster is influencing ($$$$$$) their guys to go on his podcast. It’s well know that Monster and Pulp do not get along.

Gypsy has said that he has a new partnership with Monster and that is what is allowing him to get guests like Tomac and RC.
Hardly a devil's advocate stance, but the sponsor segments are what make it free. Same with youtube, same with the web banners on vital. Of couse that doesn't require that you love every second of the ad segment, but don't call something freely distributed "crap"

Have you ever actually met him? I have met and talked to him 4 or 5 times now. Both at the races and once at the live show and he is genuinely nice. On race day, yes, he sometimes acts rushed because he IS. He's trying to make his way through the pits to get to and talk to the racers for content. Not once though, while still being rushed have I seen him NOT stop to take a quick pic or make a little small talk.
I've not met Jase but I have tried to listen to many of his interviews and I can't get through them. I much prefer a clip or short. I'm sure he's a nice guy but like others have said above, the constant F bombs just to fill space while forming a sentence is not for me. I hear that all day in my office with younger Millenials and Z'ers and don't want to have to hear that while trying to hear a rider's thoughts in an interview.
Steve has “smallen’d up” considerably these last few years, so Jace MAY be “Even Steven” 😜
That said, Gypsy is simply different than Matthes.

I met Jase at A1 last year and he didn’t cuss, granted we didn’t talk much. I haven’t met stev, but i’ve met dark, and he’s a good dude.
