Ironically the short two stroke silencers work a lot better with the modern non-existent number plates. Instead of having a huge 4 stroke one hanging out unprotected waiting to get bashed in.
Kawasaki will probably just take the MX bike and add a kickstand, 18 rear tire and different suspension settings. That’s what they do now for the X versions. Simple.
I agree, the off-road market is the larger market to go after, and makes great business sense.
That being said I'm sure the brass at Kawasaki do potentially care about the 125. Time will tell if they bring it back or not.
I spent roughly 20 years working at a Kawasaki dealer. I was there pre four stroke revolution when 125 and 250's were the norm. I was there when people turned their backs on two strokes (myself included) in favour of easier to ride four strokes.
Want to know the most requested model (year after year) after it was discontinued? The KX125. Our Kawasaki rep said the same thing 10 plus years after it was discontinued. Moto parents were looking for the next reasonable step coming off the KX85/KX100. We saw so many Team Green customers switch brands when it came time for that next step, most switching to Yamaha or KTM.
Bingo - we can close the tread now🤪

Even though the off road market is the biggest, I think we all still want the KX125 and 250 as the main bikes. The reason the off road market is the biggest for 2-strokes is because there’s not a class for the 2-strokes in MX.

Back in '07 I got a brand new '04 KX125 off the showroom floor for about $3,200 OTD. Dealers couldn't give these things away.
Now Kawasaki is bringing them back, in the face of the "electric revolution." 👍
That’s because everyone was starry-eyed about the 4-strokes. Plus, DC had just voted/crusaded to kill the 2-stroke in AMA Pro Racing by refusing to allow a 2-stroke displacement increase in the rules. This was when he was an AMA official who presided over his own series (and rule changes) in which he was the sole promoter.
Nah
A few month ago DV talked about a rumour of a new KX 125. In the japanese mx championship there is a rider riding a green YZ 125, there is also one riding a 250 YZ in The A1 class against 450 4 strokes. May-be kawasaki is tired that Yamaha have a wide range of bikes, including X models!
Wasn't Bud Racing building KX 125's with YZ engines a few seasons back?
yes, but i'm talking of a YZ with green kx front fender and front plate with green decals.
Bud racing have now a kid riding a Husqy 85TC with green decals as well.
My bet is a KX125 since they recently came out with the KX112 super mini a few years ago...
Agree with this 100%, I think a lot of guys on here love the idea of buying a 125 or 250 two stroke but when the rubber meets the road and they have the money for a brand new bike they are more likely to buy the new cutting edge four stroke. I think your argument of kids moving up to a 125 is the only valid argument I think for them to make a 125cc at all.
I raced a KX100 in 2003, they increased the stroke and changed the plastics to make it the 112 I wouldn't use that as a an indicator of their future plans.
Maybe, but how many ktms 2 strokes have been sold in the last couple of years?
Thought I read somewhere "the GNCC guys will be happy" and it's insinuated that it's a 300cc machine.
And that we won't see it for a while.
Pit Row
A lot especially to the off-road crowd and Im more reffering to the guys on here saying they want another old school japanese two stroke like the good old days I dont see those guys buying a new Kawasaki 250.
It would blow minds if JA came into the Glendale stadium for the rider introductions pulling a wheelie on a Kawi 2st 300!
They will sell way more 300cc than 125s. Not that they wouldn't sell some 125s, there is more demand via offroad racing for the 300. Look at Hard Enduro, most of them are on 300cc two strokes. If/when Kaw enters that market they will be instant stars, especially with KTM at a low right now.
Haven’t read each page but have we joined the dots yet on the timing of this (very epic) announcement? A certain brand with a huge market share in the 2 stroke segment possibly going bye-bye. Where/who does that segment turn to? Smart move by Kawi in my dumbass opinion. Now if the Red brand follows suit we may just be entering this “golden age” I keep hearing about!
I am 100% on board with EFI. Likely E-start...
Sign me up for a 125 and 300.
This. All the guys who race hard enduros, most people who ride with their buddies on the weekends and about 85% of the vet, Sr, super sr etc classes in off road racing own 300’s. The 300 is a huge reason why the KTM brand has been so successful over the last 15 years.
They probably wouldn't allow it, unless it was RC riding it into the stadium.
A longtime Kawi dealer I know would agree with your post, according to the team green grapevine anyway. But time will tell.
Unfortunately a 125 isn't currently in the plan, but we can all hope that changes.
KDX300 sounds good
I think it’s silly to think they’re going to come out swinging with a 300 off-road bike. Look at their current offerings(not play bikes), they ALL are mx based bikes that have small changes to target the offroad market, just like KTM’s XC line. Not to mention KTM’s 300xc is based off a 250SX and has been for decades, just as the 125XC is based off a 125SX.
And rumor is this all stems from their engineers attending Loretta’s and seeing a void in their brand in some of the classes?
I believe will we see a KX125 first, as it’s the missing link between their 112 and 250F. I hope from there we see 250 and then a 300. I will snag if a kx250 if it happens..
I'd rather them make a kx350f
