I don't know if it is a highlight or not.  For street riding, sounds good.  For mud riding?  I dunno.  Will it limit the types of grips you can use.  How does it hold up in crashes, etc?  It definitely sounds like a cool feature for the SM version, though.

Again, the biggest update they could have done is to add a 6th gear, but if they didn't do that when designing the new engine and cases then they probably aren't going to ever do it now.

I admittedly don't know a whole lot about it works but I have listened to podcasts with Jamie Ellis of Twisted Development and he has talked about it being the future of EFI tuning and mapping on MX bikes. I was just curious of the trickle down effect. Also, it's ironic that is is brought to the market by Suzuki and their so-called "lack of innovation." Everyone seems to forget they brought EFI to MX bikes first.

We also forget because they ultimately failed Canondale had it before Suzuki.

Good call. In reality, the Cannondale was years ahead of it's time. Just poorly executed.

It sure was. It would have poured gas on an already exploding four stroke revolution. Would have been cool to see it develop over a couple generations.

KTM 690 Enduro has had it for several years now. Pretty sure the EPA grandfather exemption ran out on the 400. They either had to update or stop selling them. Same thing happened with the KLR.

Cool to see Suzuki update the 400 with traction control, ABS, and fly-by-wire throttle, but no 6-speed is a miss.

Correct. The 650L is essentially unchanged since its intro in 1993.

Great to see a new offering from Suzi.

Just as a point of interest- the Australian Suzuki team actually raced a DRZ400 in SX back around the turn of the century.

Turn of the 19th century? 😁

Must be a colorized photo. 😃

Fly by wire could effectively give you significant control over engine breaking. It’s kind of the next big gateway for tuning. Just that change crossed over to the RMZ could put it back in the conversation.

We"ll be likely to see that motor in a lot of different product in various shapes and states.

One of the biggest complaints I've heard is that the bike is a 5 speed.  Shame they spent the time and money on a newer model that's still a 5 speed.

I was actually ready to buy the 2024 DRZ model this fall when a buddy pointed out that 2024 KTM and Husky 500s were selling at discount of 3K off the normal price.  After hearing that , me and my buddy both went for 2024 KTM 500EXC-Fs .

I wonder if the engine is the basis for a new RMZ4R ?

Every time I see a DRZ, I can’t help but think about Dirt Rider’s Internet Bike Build competition from the mid ‘00s, where each forum was to build the best bike they could and Thumpertalk came through with a 60HP DRZ for some reason, lol.

That is the most thumpertalk thing I've ever heard

It looks significantly lower than past models, anyone have specs on ride height? As a shorter guy myself, Im kinda into it. Wanted a Tenere a few years back but it’s just too tall and wasn’t willing to invest in different suspension.

Is it still really top heavy feeling ?
Still a five speed ?

I owned one for a couple years - it resisted the simple ask of going straight on a gravel road.

I did !

It was far & away the most janky component of the whole arrangement.

Mike Keidrowski used to show up to Gorman in the early 2000's on his DRZ and would still be the fastest dude on the track.

It is a shame TFS won’t get to send the next generation DRZ over LaRocco’s Leap

My dad bought a 2000 DRZ when they came out to replace the XR600 he raced. I raced a DRZ plenty when I was younger as well. Need to say that and post a couple photos because the reasons to post about a DRZ are few and far between 😅 I still have one, an S model for DS duties. If I buy a new Suzuki it will likely be the DE800

I have a '23 DRZ S and I love the thing. I put a full yosh system and a JD jet kit in it and it's an absolute blast in the canyons, but long road rides are not it's friend. That being said, I have my eyes on a leftover '23 800DE as well. I can get it now for about 10k OTD door, but I might just wait and see what the market does.

920mm seat height

That, and the 5 speed box, shows that Suzuki don't have a clue.

Why do KTMs only have 6 speed?  How lame.  If they had 7 speeds I might buy one

Blokes have been crying out, Nay, screaming for a 6spd for the DRZ400 for decades now.

I'm no DRZ expert, so I don't know if it's had a new bottom end, / cases that might have enabled a 6spd, but it seems to be a bit of a mistake in Not having one - that, and Not making it a 450.

450? - with increasing cleanliness legislation, it's become a common thing to upsize new engines, just a bit, to keep the power / torque levels , or slightly raise them on a new model over the previous one. The numbers I've seen with this new DRZ400, show it's lost HP and Torque. Perhaps that may be offset by a better 'tune' through the EFI and Ride By Wire set up?

Me, I wish I could get a Brand New XR650L here in OZ, but I'm told it's lack of ABS killed it here. Apparently its capacity now requires ABS. The 2nd hand ones I look at, are a bit clapped out, and, if not so clapped out, their owners know what they can get for them. I want a New Bike, that I can keep until I cark it.

Such a thing would be perfect for My ADV usage, and I've got access to Plenty of parts to make it into an ideal Bear  ADVer. I want simple, relatively Light, and well performing in real dirt usage. I travelled most of OZ on both an XL185s and a DT175 back in the late 70s , early 80s, and had a fantastic time doing so, so I have No need for a Land Yacht as most ADV bikes are. I've ridden such things aplenty, and they don't interest me nowadays. KLR650? - I want a better Dirt Bike than that, as good as they are as an ADV Single. .

Man, I'd kill for an XR650. I had a DR650 but the performance was just sub-par. The clunky gearbox annoyed me the most. I've since moved to a KTM 690; great bike, but its too high strung, and although it's a 6-speed the ratios are worst than the DR. There's barely any difference between 5th and 6th. A bit more power (+EFI, carby was a pain in the ass with elevation), slightly better geometry, better gearbox and better suspension and I would have been content with the DR. The XRs had most of that

If only they could remove the middle zero and replace with a five.

Agreed, but what is next? Long game player. Suzuki pulled out of motogp, cut spending. They saved 30 billion. Wonder what they are spending it on?

Time to stockpile old Doctor Z 400s?
