I don't disagree with your post.
I do wonder how hard Jet is really trying. Seems like when he needs to make a pass, he can pull speed out of his ass at a whim.
Check out my original post - I said he's not comparable to RC in MX, but definitely better than him in SX. I don't reckon he bet James straight up in SX though. Usually when James would yard sale himself. As for MX Reed had nothing for Stew there.
Given we could do with getting sidetracked from Deegan and Jett, I’ll bite.
“Reed's not comparable to JS in SX….”
They both literally have the same number of 450 SX and MX titles, as well as having 44 and 50 SX wins respectively. That’s pretty damn comparable as fas as I’m concerned!
And as far as your statement that you don’t reckon Reed ever beat Stew straight up in SX: you don’t even have to go back to their prime. How about A2 2014? And don’t say Stew wasn’t at his best, this is the same season as his epic Toronto ride.
Jesus christ.

There is absolutely no guarantee that Deegan can handle the 450 in SX and not grenade himself like most guys do when they move up. Jett’s riding style fits the transition to 450 way better. Deegan”s had two SX seasons and no title. Lots of guys before him dominated outdoors. Deegan is fast and he sends shit that no one else will. I’m sorry but he’s not on the level of RC, JS7, MC, RV, RD, Roczen, Tomac. Deegan needs to win SX this year, otherwise he’s just a Jmart, nothing wrong with that.
Could reel of 20 odd riders that have done what deegans done in the the last 25 years , the jett comparisons need to stop , if he can get near cooper or hunter that’ll be a good rookie season
I predict this will be the best rivalry since James and Ricky.
Deegan is killing it in the 250 class no doubt. BUT maybe just maybe we should wait and see what he does on the 450 before we crown him as the guy to challenge Jett. I don’t see chase and or hunter rolling over for the deegs once he moves up.
Deegan is watching jett. I already see him taking some different lines. Jett is great, but IMO he uses the whole track. He is somehow able to go anywhere on a moments notice. I feel some of jetts riding can be copied and i see others doing it, so some of that advantage will be lost. Think of the first guy to stand up, jump a double, blitz whoops, scrub, etc,
Yah Supercross is easy, Just do everything perfect and You win. Surprised that has not caught on with more riders.
I think that Deegan learns quickly and is a great rider. But his style for sure is not the style that has a history of working well on a big bike. Jett's been supersmooth and the way he lands so high on transitions without clipping the tops is one of the hard to do things that helps him go so fast. Line wise I don't know that it helps Deegan a lot in his own riding to watch Jett.
With how fast Deegan seems to learn, he looks like the best guy that will be moving up from the 250 class right now. But like Sexton's speed seemed to be relative without Jett there, it is hard to know for sure how he will be on the 450 until he's on it. It is great that there are some great riders coming up like Deegan and some of the Euros. Should make it exciting to watch .
It's gonna be great in a few (2?) years with Prado, Deegan and Jett
Someone call me when he beats Sexton in 3 years time if everything's turns out perfect
Nice write up. I hope it happens sooner than later. I'm for Haiden to go 450 next summer. I don't see what remaining in the 250's does for him at that point if he keeps rolling like he is. Either way I'd say 2026 is a done deal and that isn't that far from now. The future looks really bright.
He'd probably go top 5 on a good night
No way he doesn't defend in 25'.
He's young, can get on the 450 in his 20's.
I know you are probably right but imagine adding him to the lineup next summer. Prado will be here, Eli will still be here, and add in Jett, Hunter, Chase, AP, Cooper it could be amazing!
How many seasons did Jett race 250 SX before getting a title? I think he got it in his 3rd year
I was in your same thought process around southwick and I thought he was due for a big one but if you watch closely his technique is dialed. he’s rarely not in a position of strength on the bike and he man handles that 250 to go as fast as he does.
He’ll be more Barcia (but more consistent) style on a 450, but I don’t see him having any major issues adapting.
Pit Row
I think he will adapt and learn. I'm just saying that Jett's style has a history of working better on a 450 than Deegan's.
I have been very impressed with Deegan and how quickly he seems to learn and gain speed. His determination reminds me of RC. That save at Southwick was insane! But watching some of his Youtube videos and seeing him on the first day riding with Star, and than a month or 2 later was when I first started to become a fan. Seeing how fast he gained a lot of speed. And then watching him in SX his corner speed stood out to me like Jett's perfect timing and driving down the downsides of jumps . I'm not doubting that he will be fast on a 450. I just think that he may take a little bit more time on one before he's riding closer to his potential than it too Jett. Not saying he won't be able to battle for wins in his first season. I think that Both of them are great riders and I look forward to them racing each other along with some of the others coming over.
By the time Deegan goes 450.
Jett will still be super young, veteran of the class with so much more strength, speed and experience.
Jett won’t even be in his mid 20’s by the time Deegan goes 450.
We are still yet to see the best version of Jett.
As far as a mental battle, Deegan will likely shake Sexton up with his interview talk more than he will shake up Jett. Sexton split from training with JS7 because he was sensitive about how James spoke with him. I think he’s more susceptible to overthinking and letting the negativity creep in that Deegs is so good at dishing out on the podium and pressers.
I think Haiden already said he's on 250's both SX and MX next year. Given how the rest of the Star 250 team hasn't panned out like Haiden, I think it is best to wait until Eli retires and cement another 250 season on outdoors for Star.
Agree it looks like it would be better for him to be in 450s, but not better for Star.
As you were saying.
Anybody seriously think Deegan’s ready to take on the Jett we just saw?
Maybe in two years time, but not now. People getting way ahead of themselves.
Exactly. Jett has been on a 450 for one full season. By the time Deegz moves up, Jett will be peaking. He'll be a surgical scalpel. Good luck. It's going to take someone really special to knock him off. Could be Haiden. I'm not sure I see it but he continues to impress me
Jett has Haiden covered for skill. He also seems to be able to ride as fast as he needs to when everything is on the line. So far anyway.
Haiden looks a bit more wild and willing to risk it though. He seems more willing to risk it just to show off aswell. Brian raised a fearless kid that works hard and is a hell of a lot more skilled than he was.
If Haiden hits the ground running. It will be awesome to see how Jett responds to that. Although it's probably unlikely he hits the 450's with instant success. The depth is a lot better than 250's, the riders are more consistent and it's a hell of a lot more bike that requires more than just having huge balls and putting it all on the line.
Haiden is definitely a future contender atleast though.
Is Sexton retiring this year? Maybe Hunter also? How about see how well he even rides the 450. Jesus fanboys.
Deegan is in a bad spot age wise because he is only 2 years younger than Jett. He will never have a significant age advantage over Jett (like Jett has over Eli now) and will always be 2 years behind in experience.
Deegan is AWESOME. Sorry to the moto historians if I’m forgetting someone, but I don’t think we’ve seen a riding/racing style like Deegan’s since James Stewart. He’s the only one in his class hucking quads and trying crazy lines like the Vegas single into the corner.
But when comparing Deegan and Lawrence right now, I think you have to look at their competition. Deegan got gapped by Pierce Brown. Lawrence caught and passed Eli Tomac.
The guys who can’t catch Jett Lawrence right now are all badasses. Think about how often Anderson, Plessinger, or Roczen have challenged him for a single moment — nevermind a lap, a race or a championship. Tomac, Sexton and Webb are S-tier and they give it their all and can only throw their hands up at the end.
I agree Barcia never lived up to his expectations, but I disagree that he didn't deserve the hype.
He was a monster on the 250.
Post a reply to: The eventual Deegan vs Lawrence is going to be a clash of the Titans unlike any other.
