I think of my dad, Boo Stichter. He was one of the early “KTM factory riders” and had some good support in 1979. Crazy to hear the stories of how, back then, the KTM motorcycles were so far behind the factory hand built Hondas, among other brands. To see the success of the KTM brand/group today is amazing from what they were back then.

That’s awesome. Your dad is a legend in Colorado. My first national I went to spectate was the 83’ Lakewood race and I remember watching him. I used to have pictures of him at that race but all my pictures got ruined in a flood.

Maybe not the rider I think of immediately when I think KTM, but I will never not associate Lance Smail with KTM and the 540 in my brain. If I hear one or the other its immediately the association.

I saw Lance today, he’s still fast.

He doesn't come to mind when I think KTM, but Justin Brayton had a hell of a ride at Millville one year, way back, I mean he was sailing on an early KTM 450.

So many of the previously mentioned riders come to mind.

Frank Stacy covered the Penton to KTM transition for me, with a few other makes in between - most notably ( for me) being the Seven Speed Sachs / Hercules.

His involvement with Dunlop and other Tyre manufacturers, not only Motorcycle, has been / was notable, as was his involvement in Off Road / ISDT / ISDE.

Some great shots of Frank came up on Facebook last week.  I believe he had KTMs first podium….3rd at Southwick in 79

He won a moto at Steel City in 2009. Was that the Jagermeister KTM team?

I don't think so.  Mike Alessi was on that team, but I believe he was the only one.

Yeah Grant Langston #1 on a Ktm . He’s the 2000 125 world champion. In 01 the battles with Brown his biggest competitor in 2000. Pastrana was flying in 01 with the #1 plate.  Watch 01 unadilla wow Travis was flying . Grant put a charge on the last 2-3 laps & closed a big gap. Watch the Gary Bailey vid. I watch the 2000 125 gp season a lot . Grants speed is hard to figure out. I think he was great at getting the bike up right and driving & getting the rear end hooking up. Taking the roughest lines like an animal. A far distinct 2nd would b Trampas/ Chad Parker 1990 125 world champion.  And 3rd Mike Heely on the 125 Ktm racing gp,s.

Grant Langston is my number one thought when I hear KTM.  And the 111

And Bob Balentine d-37#1 1980. Bobby was the smoothest desert racer. He rode a 420. I forgot about Trampas Parker winning the 1989 world mx on a KTM 125.
