I like Trey, but his track record speaks for itself. If he doesn't crash he'll probably do pretty good. But if he wads up, he's breaking a femur for the 3rd time..

I’ve seen some dumb fucking posts but his takes the cake. Says he “likes” Trey then drags him through the mud and then clubs him.

sad ass individual!

He set the second fastest time in practice (not a race) and finished 5th in the qualifying race on Saturday.

On Sunday he finished second in the first race, 20 seconds behind Jay Wilson...

2nd in moto 1 on a brand new untested prototype electric dirt bike after being retired for 6 years.. I’ll say it again. Nobody is of his calibre in that series. If you think over nearly 20 minutes Trey is only 20 seconds slower on a bike he’s never ridden that is funny

Crazy action in M2.  Trey holeshot on the CR-E.  Within 1 lap Jay Wilson closed up and his line came together with Trey's (looked like a takeout from Jay but basically neither backed off and Jay had the inside.).  Trey's right grip, throttle, electronic switch, and kill strap assembly got all jammed in Jay's back wheel.  After they got the bikes untangled the CR-E would not go so Trey pushed it off.  I suspect the wrist kill strap setup was damaged.

Well, that sucks...

Great showing overall, aside from that though.  I'm excited to see more of this bike!

That's a shame for race 2 but podium for its first outing for an 18 min race sounds real promising, well done Honda. The race for EMX is on.

Now... here's hoping we don't need to wait another 6 years for the specs.

It will probably take them years to get to a production bike but I look forward to seeing Honda compete against the Stark Varg (or Varg 2.0).

Didn't Trey say he had been Production testing, so that means 2025 release??

Great first race just cruising last lap so gap wasnt 20 sec before that. Second race Wilson went for take out and took both out. Third race Canard got second holeshot but crashed out from lead after couple laps. Not sure if E-bikes need that kill switch wire mounted to rider hand at races but bike could go alone after crash without it so maybe its mandatory.

That kill strap seems to be the weak link. Trey crashed in Moto 3 and couldn’t get the bike running again after the strap came out. He may have hurt his wrist, too.
This track is hammered dog shit, too.

Jay just owned it in his podium speech. He apologized to Trey and Honda and said that was all on him.

The second biggest takeaway from these results after the Electric Honda, is the fact that Honda has more Electric Bikes and KTM have more bikes on track that Suzuki in the All Japanese championship.

Only 1 Kawi and Zero Suzuki's out on track.

Some thoughts: 2-DNF-DNF probably not the look Honda was expecting. Heck, I'm surprised even typing it.

Here's hoping TC41 is all good after that Moto3 crash that was his mistake while leading. Bike was TWISTED after that one: Front wheel was wrapped around pretty good in relation to the front fender. Odd that he couldn't get it going, though. I understand the Moto2 carnage after getting the bars sucked into Wilson's back tire, but Moto3 "restart" problems just seemed odd.

Bike definitely got good starts: 2 outta' 3 holeshots, and his jumps off the grates weren't even the best. Must be some power there and ease of use with no shifting to worry about.

Don't let the +20 seconds behind Jay Wilson in Moto1 fool you - TC41 was much closer the entire race until the last lap, when he backed it off quite a bit and didn't even jump all the obstacles. Worth watching if you haven't already, as the production is quite good!

Too bad he could not finish Moto2 and 3, would have given a clue if that was more the rider or the battery that got tired after 18 min in M1 Wink

An E bike can go on its own so it has a kill switch wrist strap thingy? What am I missing here? Can’t a gas powered bike go on its own too?

The E bike is still accelerated through a throttle right?

ICE bikes stall 95% of the time when crashed, electric doesnt 😉

I’ll confess I’ve little knowledge of E bikes but I thought with the throttle off there is no movement? They don’t idle like an ICE bike

if you fall off; you aren’t applying the throttle so it should stop, no?

if it falls down throttle side and the throttle is open it will run but so does an ICE bike

Don’t get me wrong I’m all for making things safer; I’m just a little lost by the logic

Despite the dnf’s, Trey showed that the bike is more than competitive. I’d think Honda would have to be happy with that.

All I saw was moto 3, but that thing - and probably all electric bikes - looks deadly off the start.

I'd say he was testing pre-production 2025 CRF250R and CRF450R, and was asked to race the electric CR while he was there.

I doubt it will be released until 2027.

Right, it’s still 2 wheels. Can see 4 wheelers as they stay upright if a rider falls off but if the ebike requires a tether so should the ice bike

I'm pretty sure I've not recently seen the tether switch in use on the Starks in racing - well, and with most of the owner videos.

I can't see why an E bike can't / wouldn't have a positional  sensing switch, that leads to a cut out after a set time. I'd be surprised if the Stark Varg doesn't have such a thing in the circuitry.

I know that sort of thing exists on plenty of ICE bikes. Especially with the advent of EFI / Fuel Pumps.

With regards to safety switches, McPint ( John McGuinness ) had his Mugen / Honda  Shinden stop at the TT one year - 2016 , I think. At the side of the road ( near to a Pub) they eventually  discovered he'd hit The Big Red Button situated on the top of tailpiece of the bike, when he got waaaaay back on the bike over one of the Many jumps on the TT circuit.

Well, that's the story I prefer, but it has been said that the landing forces at  Ballaugh Bridge overcame the Big Red Buttons spring. It, The Big Red Button,  was there to Totally shut down the electrics for for safety's sake.

Adding to the safety strap comment, I liked Nick Wey’s take in his Varg review. He felt a clutch was needed to interrupt the power delivery for safety’s sake.
Yeah, electric cars don’t have it, auto trans ICE cars don’t have it either.
I use the clutch to pop over small things and would have to learn to adapt to a clutchless bike. Safety strap is an old three wheeler jet ski thing, didn’t know the Varg had one.

Yeah, Jay saw an opening and went in hard for it.  But we all know Trey is not one to quickly concede a line.. lol.    In a situation which I viewed as somewhat mutual, I would have expected no less of Jay than to take the high road and own it.  This is why he and his family are adored in the Japan MX world.  They are very tuned into the sensitivities.

Listening to Atsuta's commentary was interesting on the e-bike (and other points).  He is pretty free-talking, like he always has been.. lol  I have a funny story I'm going to PM you.

Yeah great story with McPint.

I think Big Red Button has more to do with marshalls/track workers safety before they handle the bike in case of crash. It's still required in MotoE, plus they get some specific training about handling the electric bikes. BRB won't do anything in case of dismount though.

If it was ever required for MX it wouldn't be that hard to integrate for Stark (or any other manufacturer).

ICE bike with the throttle stuck wide open is confined to whatever gear you're in (most likely 2nd or 3rd) Electric bike with the throttle stuck wide open you're getting everything that bike has.

The kind of people that buy E bikes need the kill switch straps.
