Did anyone figure out what happened to Masterpool’s bike this weekend? He sure was rolling until that happened. Sorry if they talked about it on the broadcast already and I missed it.
Announcer at the track said they saw a few puffs of smoke first moto from the bike and assumed the engine let go.
I heard the same, but I’d be surprised if they sent him out on that same engine for the second moto.
Provided they had a back up engine. I’d give it a 50/50 they didn’t.
More like 90/10.
He is riding the wheels off the thing for sure.

Not sure about first moto… but he said on the weege show that his engine blew up in the second moto
Without getting into all the details, the decision was made to put a "bandaid" on it between motos. Unfortunately the crank went out in the opening laps of the second moto.
Kawasaki put a new motor in it after the races.
Glad nobody got hurt and you will be ready to eat another one up in the sand.
After the bike was puking smoke at the end of Moto 1, I’m surprised they didn’t swap the engine out between motos. They probably just didn’t have time to pull it off.
Exactly what Stewart was talking about in regards to the differences between a factory rider and Masterpool. It played out exactly like the hypothetical situation that Stewart set up. He was on point yesterday
After Ty's great results in the last four races, I hope that the Kawasaki brain trust has the good sense to give this family some assistance (out the back door or whatever), as he is making their stock motorcycle look pretty good.
I told Jerry that Ty should race the 450 back in May when they were at Glen Helen tearing down their 250s in the dirt parking lot, glad they finally listened
Perfect opportunity to market the SR kawi. Just give him a couple and promote the hell out of it. He was a foot from another hole shot and running factory speed.
You may well be right man, but surely they could have thrown another motor in *if* one was available, and if it was borderline time wise for them personally surely someone handy could have lent a hand given they were at a national?
I'm totally ready to stand corrected, but seems more likely they didn't have a spare, anyone know?
Sucks as he was hauling, it's been good to see him back on the pace week after week like he's capable of.
They gave him a motor after the races someone said above. I doubt that was a stock motor that was in the Kawasaki rig.
Hard to believe they don't have a back-up engine.
Not really, the cost big bucks.
Do you have one, I don't.
I doubt they had a spare engine. I don't have a clue how long between moto's they had. I'd guess 40 minutes. Don't have a clue if the one mechanic support person could swap an engine if they had one in that time frame or not. I guess the factory teams could if they had too.
Nothing like racing against the best…knowing your motor might blow up any minute!
Pit Row
Does anybody know how many hours were on his 450? I heard he just got a new one so I mean I’d like to know if he’s racing the new one & made the old one the practice bike. Or racing old one? Regardless, curious how many hours on that crank
That’s the least they could do after their guy fell right in front of him and took him down…
Just kidding. I know AC didn’t do that on purpose. Just a racing incident. Carry on. Happy 4th to all.
Didn’t Jett have to swap a motor out last year at Red Bud between motos? At any rate, once again JS7 was on point with his description of the advantages a factory rider has. I guarantee that if AC’s motor was puking smoke in the first moto, the factory race team would have had the engine swapped out between motos with time to spare. I’d bet they practice changing out engines as a team.
An engine can be swapped in 20 min
So how much is a spare race engine? I'd guess 20-30k ?
Why would a stock engine be 30k?
didnt coty schock or harrison swap their own motor by themselves between motos a couple years ago?
We are farrrrrr from the old days or the 250F arms race brother, nobody is chasing power and filling 450's with unobtanium, quite a few 450 guys are on an clutch, exhaust and maybe an ECU for tuning options / power delivery more than chasing more outright grunt 👍
Its no excuse for him not to have a spare bike, half the juniors in New Zealand have one ffs. And why the hell would they send him out on a band aid fixed bike with the biggest jump on the circuit involved?
I'm sure the motor they gave Ty was not stock, its probably a loaner anyway and not a gift per say.
from what I heard the original stock 450 motor had some light work from Twisted.
I don't know what let go on Masterpool's motorcycle, but some guys tell me that the stock rods on that bike have been known to fail? I do not know shit about Kawi's so who knows...
Either way, he is killing it and deserves some decent factory support I think...
It's simple.... How long does it take to swap? Joe Blow changed one X years ago in X minutes... Do they have a spare?.... Why not?... Betcha that free one they got ain't stock.... ENOUGH.
First off, who gives a fuck???? The look of that kid's posture after it let go said enough for me. He, with his family, are EMBARASSING some high paid talent on what is a dealership stock bike. They get some help for sure, but it's floor scrapings compared to what others are getting..... and they are beating the "glory boys" with true grit, and determination. That family has been through absolute Hell, and yet, they keep on keepin' on. If Mitch at PC, of Kawi direct gave them a full on race engine, God bless them. That family would have found a way to swap a spare if they had it on hand. Truth be told, I bet a good portion of the pits/fans would have gladly jumped in to help if they could, just to be able to see David putting a dent in Goliath's armor once more....
Whoever gave that family a fresh engine, for all their efforts, defines Moto. If it was Kawasaki the team, good on them. Proves they truly believe that they market a competitive product straight outta the box. Even if it alone whips their factory stud's asses with all their money and resources.... Ty, and family are Moto. They deserve all the credit on earth.
I'm curious where they put the bandaid
