I flagged the race yesterday. Five lightning delays and two torrential downpours. We raced until about 7:30 pm, and the track really was in pretty good condition all day, especially before the first downpour after moto 3. Even after that, the owner worked the track and had his crew push the top layer of muck off the track, and the conditions were still surprisingly good. For sure, no dust! The track owner obtained additional parking Thursday night or early Friday am at a plant next door, and there were plenty of parking spots for everyone, but it was crowded. I...

This is probably the lamest thing that's happened all season. Godzilla is massive, but it's a tabletop...that's literally the safest type of massive jump there is.

I’m not an expert on motocross gates by any means but my guess is somewhere along the line they realized that allowing them to fall forward prevents them from having to repair it if someone did manage to plow right on through, assuming that’s how it was designed and there weren’t any other issues. Have to remember that many of these tracks hold races of all skill levels that might be more likely to mess up and run into the gate. Again, just a guess.

I had no idea the gates that don't fall forward were so widespread. I'm not sure if I've ever seen one, I'm so used to seeing people flop them forward to clean the dirt out from under the gate to let it fall all the way.

It's been a hell of a ride. Yes, there have been some dry spells, but the dude put us on the map 45 years ago and won this race more than anyone in history. That's some Knute Rockne shit right there.

I was going to add Brett Downey #38, until I saw your post. Downey raced against and with Eli Tomac. The Tomac's had a small #38 on Tomac's front # plates for a long time thereafter in Downey's honor.

You would think the industry as a whole would be behind this and making it happen but they aren't. I've got flamed here many times for suggesting that the industry should step up and help keep riding areas open. FMF, Pro Circuit, Yosh, Dunlop, Maxima, Thor, Fly etc. etc. etc. gonna have a hell of time selling anything to keep the doors open if we run outta places to ride.

We have quite a few club tracks in Michigan. I think that is the safest route for track and trail ownership.

Ever work 12Am to 8am shift, and have 2 kids playing after school sports and don’t like coffee? That’s who.
