Seems like a lot of pessimism about having electric cars,

I do like everyone's optimism that there won't be global nuclear holocaust and we might still be around in 2035 to bitch about electric cars 😀

Try pulling up to a remote Arkansas cabin and trading a joint and $5 for some "electric"

California? Is that the state that lost 300,000 residents in 2021?

They want everything on the grid, your car your vehicles your knife your toilet your fridge so they can monitor and measure your "carbon footprint".

Pair that with putting everything on digital formats and a cashless system.

That's what they want, it's up to us to stop it.

Biggest question of all. Where is the power to charge all these vehicles going to come from??? There is “zero” infrastructure being built to accomodate. If they broke ground to build additional power plants TODAY it would be a year at minimum before it produced its first amp of electricity and more over the additional transmissions lines to deliver it are non existent. As we sit here today nothing is being done other than the “save the planet” words being spoken. Newsom is so disconnected from reality it’s frightening.
Unfortunately it’s not just Newsome that’s disconnected from reality. There’s quite a few more in government that either don’t understand in the “real” world this doesn’t work, or they do and the lobbyist have them bought and paid for. Either way we are screwed. Funniest part to me about the EV movement is for as hard as they push it, they’ll approve no mining permits or power plants to produce/run any of it here making us reliable yet again on foreign countries for our energy. Idiocracy

The day I can't get an ICE-powered dirtbike is the day I quit this lifelong obsession of riding.

Yup.

At every point possible, our Gov selects the most intrusive way to meet their goals. We could have a national sales tax that would be way easier to manage and nobody would care how we earn money, instead the income tax means we all have to submit information about what we do so we can be taxed. Healthcare used to be between me and my doctors, now every detail of my body is available to the gov.. the pattern is clear

Californians, you think the drought is bad now? Wait until they’re using 500,000 gallons of grade A H2O to mine these batteries. And let’s not forget about the 10 year life span, and the amount of batteries in landfills, landfill fires and who knows what else.

Buckle up boys, the only thing green about this movement is the politicians pockets.
95% of lithium comes from China and that’s only going to increase. We will be solely dependent on China for our batteries in the forseeable future. Such a shame.

And > 95% of everything we use on a daily basis for everyday life is a derivative of fossil fuel in some form or fashion. The device you are typing on, the couch you are sitting on, the floor you walk on, etc etc. Nevermind the simplistic term “fuel” that people only relate Internal combustion engines.

I remember my motorcycle mechanic intstructor telling me in 2009 that we won’t see the ban of gas bikes in my lifetime or my kids lifetime. He was so sure of it too. It will make it a lot easier to be a moto mechanic at the track once they switch that’s for sure.

It also takes a lot of water to make gas. 3 to 6 gallons of water per gallon of gas. And I saw an article from 2015 talking about how the oil and gas industry produces over 800 billion gallons of waste water each year . Considering how much stuff is made from oil It is still relatively small compared to the amount of water used for Lithium mining. I think fracking is the biggest use of all that water . WIth there only being a limited supply of oil on the planet, and so much of modern life being based on oil based materials and products it makes sense to try and use other sources of energy. I think that EV's will be what saves the power grid from becoming out of date and going the way of the railroad. As Solar panels become more efficient and cheaper , more and more people will get them and decrease their use of grid power . At some point there could be few enough people using grid power that it would no longer be profitable to support it. The localized environmental impact of EV's might be less than ICE vehicles , but the world wide impact is not so cut and dry. The lack of ways to recycle lithium batteries will become a big problem . An EV powertrain is much more simple to build and I bet that EV's have a much higher profit margin. I can see what manufactures would want to build them. If EV's are going to totally take over for ICE vehicles then battery tech will need to improve more. From a performance and ease of use standpoint I can see why many people would want an electric vehicle. Having to just pull into my garage and plug in , Like I do in the winter with my diesel truck , but not have to go pump gas or diesel out in the cold sounds great. Just like with computers , VCR's big screen TV's and many other newer products the cost will come down, the products will become better, but that will just make the lack of a clean way of taking care of old batteries even more of a problem. I think that Hydrogen electric would be a better way to go in between going full electric or battery electric, unless there is a new battery tech that is very close to being ready. Hydrogen Electric also seems like it would fit into the current way of gas stations and collection of road tax , etc. I am excited to see how EV's will peerform and the new levels they will take racing to . the ability to have multiple motors and control them independently of each other could make for some interesting tech. No need for a trans so You could have some wild cornering aids on both 2 and 4 wheeled vehicles by speeding up or slowing a wheel or 2. From the performance side of things I can see a clear advantage for Electric in some forms of motorsports. The environmental impact of ICE VS EV is not as clear to what the real winner is the more you dig into what damage both can do to the planet. Tesla claims to recycle 100% of their batteries, but they do not say how much of each battery is actually recycled. Just that they send 100% of the bad or old ones out to be recycled , then its up to the recycler to handle. I love the option of having Electric Dirt Bikes and the cool things they will allow like indoor riding with heat and not venting most of it outside, tracks having less complaints with the lack of noise. So there could be tracks that no body knows are there. Even with Laws being made , I still do not see people going to 100% EV's if the ICE powered vehicles are out performing them. Look at 2 stroke VS 4 stroke. Remember how 2 strokes were getting banned and how the sport was ruined. If enough people keep buying gas bikes they will stick around at some level. Another example , look at race quads, the Honda 250R was not being made anymore so people kept rebuilding them, and then Honda came out with a new High performance quad when people started to run the 450 engines in aftermarket chassis. If the money and demand are there , the products will be there too. You can still buy and own, ride and race a 3 wheeler . You can still go out and make a Model T ford your daily driver if you want. Or ride a horse to work like they did before cars. People always make the same arguments when a new form of something is getting good enough to make the old form obsolete. All of the ICE vs EV arguments just tell me how close Electric is to being able to replace Gas. It already happened with the way people light their homes , at one point kerosene was the power source for peoples lighting needs. And You can still use it today if you want to instead of Electric.

Do you have a source for that?

"Tesla, which produces only electric vehicles, said in a July 26 filing to CARB that the board should require 100% zero-emission vehicles by 2030 "

Of course that's Musk's company, not himself saying that.

Beta and Sherco will probably still produce 2 strokes for the rest of us non Ca. riders for quite some time. KTM has become to corporate and will go along with the brain washing that the CARB dictates. Nothing against e power, just let the free market alone. Get rid of the tax credits also. Can we stop calling it "fossil fuels" and call it petroleum? Are people really so brain dead to think that the oil and gas on this planet is from dead dino's and plants? Have you ever dug up something that was buried in the backyard, hopefully not your ex, and found a pool of oil?

Oil and gas are abiotic, meaning renewable, and are produced from the magma in the earths center. It is of course extremely hot and the off gas and oil, move up in cracks all over the earth and pool up. After a field is mostly extracted well pressures drop and so it either needs to be fracked to allow more into the pool, or it's abandoned, only to fill up again over time. These things were confirmed to me by multiple geologists who work in the industry, but of course if they were to announce this publicly they would not be long for the world.

We also have historically low levels of Co2 on the planet, when examining ice cores from thousands of years, this is clear. And of course plants use Co2 for food, so we need to maintain a certain level for life as we know it to proliferate.

Everything related to this issue is for the purpose of enslaving humanity by a small group of psychopaths, as pointed out in earlier posts. Our way of life is in danger, so ride your dirtbike to forget about it for awhile, but fight them like hell the rest of the time.

Its so sad to live in this moment where experts say something, but it becames a totally different thing in the government, media, etc...

Science: "We need to reduce CO2 from transportation, right? But if we just produce a billion electric cars to replace old cars, we will pollute even more in order to produce the cars and to create A WHOLE new infraestructure. etc... so, the suggestion is that WE NEED LESS PEOPLE USING individual cars to commute, for example. What does this means? We need a bigger and better busses-train-subway infraestructure and incentives for people to use it, like more safety, for example"
Media/Government: "We will ban petrol cars and we will give manufacturers billions in subsidies for them to produce a billion electric cars"

Sciece: "Hey, if you add this tiiinny amount of wild sea-weed into the food we give to cows and living stock, we can totally reduce the methane that they produce!"
Media/Government: "We need to go vegan!!"

Science: "Dude, dont build this boat to remove plastic from the ocean. You will remove 300 pieces but theres 3985739876 million of new pieces per hour being thrown at the ocean. Try to stop that plastic in the rivers that flow to the ocean. Gotta stop these things over there... but its also kinda pointless because we need to ban most of the single use plastic"
Media: "This guy is saving the planet with his boat. AMAZING. Lets ban ALL PLASTIC"

haha WTF, this world is crazy

My take, I live out in the countryside in the UK, air quality is quite good, when I go to London the air I breathe is terrible, can really feel it on my chest and for a bit when I return. Any ICE vehicle within the city has to meet very strict pollution limits and the air still sucks. Something has to be done but electric? I'm not on the bandwagon. The energy and pollution caused to make them is horrendous to say the least. And god forbid one crashes! It's treated like a mini nuclear fallout lol

Talking to a shirt and tie guy in the energy sector he told me if just 10% of just cars in the UK went to electric then the generation and distribution would have to increase 4 time's! Like I said 10% it's just not possible in the time frame politicians are pushing for.

On the other hand check out the JCB video on hydrogen engine's, that's where I believe the future should be. Well until some boffins come up with a revolutionary way to propel a mass as easy and cheap as hydrocarbon

Rant over
Serious question, not being snarky. Have you ever thought that the feeling you get in the city is not from cars? For examples, humans are shown...
Serious question, not being snarky.

Have you ever thought that the feeling you get in the city is not from cars? For examples, humans are shown to have elevated stress in industrialized settings. Also, the removal of local greenery must cause some decrease in oxygen density, and cities are dirty. Simply put, they're gross, dusty, and stale. I really have to think this can't be exclusively a product of cars and buses.
Good point, no I haven't thought of that, but I am constantly picking black crap out of my nose. Sorry to be gross

As an electrician, I always get a kick out of telling an eco warrior that their house can't handle their new 50A Tesla charger. An expensive panel upgrade or slow charging are their options. There is no way we upgrade ALL of CA's infrastructure and add the extra capacity with magic rays of sunshine by 2035. Keep in mind, they are also starting to ban all gas appliances as well.

I wonder if the sound of 40 e-bikes chain slapping into the first corner will be cooler than 40 ICE 450s.

According to Moores Law batteries shouldn’t be a problem in 2035
Moore's law only applies to transistor density. It has nothing to do with batteries.

It’s funny 20 yrs ago I went to all gas appliances (oven/range/clothes dryer) in a remodel because Ca said it was lower cost. Now they are legislating all new houses all electric. Just aggravating how we seem to flip flop. Even nuclear power is coming into fashion again. It Ca had just stayed the course on nuclear we’d have a much better power infrastructure.

Appreciate the rare knowledge. You should see the looks I get when I tell people that oil is a renewable resource lol. Building a worldview off of pithy one liners and bumper sticker slogans tends to leave out a large amount of valuable information along the way i guess.

Pair that with putting everything on digital formats and a cashless system.

That's what they want, it's up to us to stop it.
Went to.a San Diego Padre game last week and the entire stadium is cashless. My local movie theaters won’t accept cash at the snack bar and ticket sales are online only.

I never thought I'd see the day where someone is spitting facts on Vital like this, and you got more likes than downvotes.

Wow, kudos.

Imagine if the ECO warriors knew who the real Tesla was and how he had free energy for all over 80 years ago, The naming of Elon Musks brand Tesla is nothing but book burning re-writting of history.
