It has very minimal head and cylinder work so I can still run cheap gas, I'm running a stock pipe because I broke a Pro Circuit one I had recently, the suspension is stock, and it has vforce reeds. It doesn't sound like much but I always have a blast riding it
You going to NCMP?

Believe it or not no I actually haven't had it re-valved, it's 100% stock with some clicker adjustments. I usually like the stock Yamaha suspension pretty good but it is currently in need of some servicing so it is starting to not work as well. For what it is, the stock Yamaha setup is really really good
that is impressive

how much do you weigh if you dont mind me asking?
I am about 160 so I am luckily a really good weight for the stock setup

Nice riding, U should race some outdoor nationals!
I am working on getting sponsors and the logistics to do around 5 of them or so if they everything works out! Yamaha finally paid to allow the YZ250 to participate in Pro racing this year but you can only ride the 2022 model so I have one of those on the way to me to hopefully be shredded at the nationals this summer! I had a 2020 and a 2021 so had to scramble to find a 22, huge thank you at Donnie Luce at Yamaha for helping me find one!

Haha I have definitely never been contacted by any teams! I mostly just race locally anyway, in this video I’m wearing gear that my girlfriend bought for my birthday for full price on Motorsport and riding a bike I got off Facebook marketplace. I think my program qualifies as a privateer effort lol

Nice riding man!

I have 2 bikes but one of them is a tried and true YZ250 two stroke and I have to say that it is pretty much a perfect bike. Kind of like a jack of all trades. For its' weight, power and handling it hits the spot, mx, trails or whatever.

Keep up the good work!
I feel the same I've had 6 of them. I also think if I was a faster rider it would work even better.

People seem to forget he’s knocked on the door of some top 20 National finishes, or even gone top 20, can’t remember. Matt’s been flying for a long time!

Thank you! My girlfriend films all my races so I am really lucky to be able to watch everything back and also share it with everyone.

Here's one I think all you old school guys will love. It may not be Reed on his 04 YZ but I still think it sounds pretty good!

This one is one of my favorite races I've had from this year, had a sweet last lap battle against a couple of 450s at Muddy Creek

If you search "Matt Burkeen" on YouTube my channel will be on there and there is tons of race footage on there. Hope you enjoy!

so you can race this in the 250 class at a pro national or you have to ride 450 class?

It's the answer that doesn't make sense.

Wow, that's some great racing against Nick on stock suspension and a mostly stock motor. And then to have the stock pipe back on it for that race? Dang dude.
Also, great video work by your girlfriend. My wife can't come close to following me round the track doing video. It's always messed up some.
Watching this tells me two important situations in modern day motocross.
1) The 250 2 stroke should be able to compete in the "250" class in pro racing. ( Wait....did I just say that? A 250 should be able to compete in the 250 class???)

2) 4 strokes have added tremendous cost to riding and racing. Got a Star Racing YZ250F with suspension, motor, and all kinds of other goodies, (probably $20 thousand) with lap times being virtually matched by a used (facebook marketplace) 2021 YZ250 2-stroke, cost, Maybe $7000

Only thing you're wrong about is a fully-built Star bike is probably closer to $40k all in.
Keefer did a test on that PC bike and I think it was $37k.

Regardless, awesome video. Home track or not, keeping a kid like Romano honest is an achievement!

Cool to see you ride more Matt! You’re riding great on this video.
It brings back memories when you were on the PR2 Suzukis 10/12 years ago or so.

Should be ripping against 250f’s. Can’t believe this is still a thing stateside.

Genuinely still blows my mind.

How hard can it honestly be to change the rule to one that people have been asking for for years and years and only benefits the racing? Honda aren't just gonna bail are they...

Would love to see what a guy like you could do on a full built factory YZ 250.

New favourite rider for sure!

I know it was 250 vs 250, but I got RC/ Kdub '03 vibes in those clips!

Know other members have said it, but seriously, what do we have to do to get you to a national!?

I’d argue the peak number probably isn’t that far off. The 2 stroke has a pretty solid advantage in stock trim. And with a little head/cylinder work it’s not hard to make a usable powerband
