28. The penalty for gaining an advantage while off course during races will be the loss of the number of positions gained plus one additional position in the final results of the respective race for the rider in question. If no positions were gained, the penalty will be the loss of one position"

Looks good for everyone else though... there is no way Lupino does anything from that start if he doesnt leave the track.

Nothing stopping him riding back over the bank he just rode over.

Just a btw, Finland came through the B final and the boys rode their ass off and got 12th Cool

Absolute banger! Do you think they'll be able to go to RedBud? Maybe this great result helps them to get the funding going!
Sure hope they do. Just the experience for the riders would probably be once in a lifetime type of stuff. I went to Thunder Valley to watch in 2010 and the guys were over the moon just to get over there.

That's the ideal place for your hands when you're livid!

Is there a replay of the track cutting incident?

Cairoli and Coldenhoff should have done same in moto 1

I’m really sorry for Italy and Cairoli in particular, but that is just not right.

Why 7th?
He got 17th with the penalty. You think he wouldn't have been able to get to 17th after entering in last?

Nagl was pretty much last after lap 5 (not sure what happened) and got back up to 19th and Lupino was 3-4 seconds a lap faster all race

"Get back on where you went off" used to be the rule, but the last 10 years or so, nobody does that anymore. As long as you re-enter the track without putting anyone in danger, it's allowed. If you haven't gained anything, you don't get penalised.
Oh I know that and I've never cared for the leniency.

It's sour now for anyone but the Italians, but it's like Herlings already mentioned before the weekend: "In 20 years nobody will care who raced it or not, or whatever happened. The only thing that will be remembered is who won it."

Profetic words.

Anyhow, regardless of the riders/teams that weren't there, we've witnessed yet another frantic, crazy, beautiful and exciting weekend. Congratiulations to all the riders, mechanics and staff to perform under such wet circumstances (again). Let's cross our fingers for a dry weekend at RedBud!

So bullshit.
He did it intentionally? Obviously not

And decision on penalty was made during race.
So judges just give a small chance to NL , nothing more

What an incredible race. So happy for team Italy! That 3rd Moto had me on the edge of my seat. It was like watching some suspenseful movie with Lupino flogging around with his head bobbing.....and he fought to the end. Herlings.....just incredible ride , both Motos. And it's awesome to see Tony finally get that big mxon's 1st place trophy. Wish the USA would of been there , but it was still a great event to watch either way.

I just want to say thanks for all the comments in here. The atmosphere in here was nearly like being there. people from other countries wanting to see other countries do well and a really good vibe without all the rider bashing. Real moto fans. Hope to make it to Red bud again next year. Drink, laugh, joke with people from many countries. Dress up. Have noise in ears for days because of chain saws and slide down the hill again in the mud. So good!!

Love this post. I really wish we had a team that went , but the world still seems a bit nuts. Being an American , I still wasn't going to miss this race. I watched all the qualifying heats , B Main and all 3 main Motos , and I still loved it. I follow the GP's closely and had a lot of favorites out there , and had a lot of fun cheering those guys on.

I hope that one day our American team can get back up there in the mix. But until then , I enjoy watching this event and all the other countries who got a team there to compete. I found myself cheering for certain riders who I admire a bunch , and even though I didn't have " my team " there.....it was ok , and I loved every second of it.

I can’t believe Italy won on home turf in Cairoli’s last year. Wow that is so cool for them. Guadagini almost blew it! Also crazy that Russia got fourth! The whole race I was wondering what the heck MFR stood for.

No horse in the race this year for us aussies either but man I love this race! I’ve never even heard of sabulas but he ripped 2 amazing starts and rode his heart out! i love how everyone repping their country just sends it whether their skill and/or fitness can handle it or not leaving nothing on the table for one day is truly amazing to watch regardless of who your cheering for.

Only in Italy they will get away from cutting track like that. Too bad winning tastes little hollow as this was one for Cairoli.

Another angle on Lupino.

What the actual fuck.. Remember how italy got disqualified a couple months after Red Bud mxon after fuel tests?
In my opinion that is worse. I don't think I've seen stuff like that before, even Anderson is mild in contrast to that.
I actually rooted for Italy (and Germany of course), but that move is just disgusting.

I do believe Lupino would have made the move towards the top 15 anyways even with a bad start and without cutting the track, but do you guys think getting docked by ten positions makes up for that move?

Italy should have had Lupino’s race 3 result scratched. My opinion.

Never gonna happen when the Italians run the show at an Italian track.
