I remember 5 or 6 yrs. ago he had a big one and thought he was paralyzed, and swore he would never ride again. Now another close one. Makes you wonder.

Thinking about how many hours he’s spent on a bike. His serious crash riding per hours ratio is probably much lower than some guy who rides a few hours a week with improper technique. Either way there are always exceptions to the rule.

Ya, because he’s taken a hell of a lot worse shots at fellow riders. Riding a dirtbike doesn’t automatically make you a good person.

Scary experience injuring the spine, that is my biggest fear. It sure helped Ryno that he is lean and strong.

Could any of the injuries Ryno sustained have been prevented by any of the “safety” equipment he doesn’t believe in? (Neck and knee braces)

And even the best technique can’t compensate for an unknown foreign object on the track (in this case a hay bale).

So I’m not seeing any of the hypocrisy that some seem to be pointing out?

I agree, and would add that some of the comments are pretty lame. We should all be wishing Ryan well. Say what you want, but Ryan is moto to the core. He loves it, has his opinions, and wants other to be safe and enjoy motocross as well. Get well, Ryno!

Anyone using this opportunity to make a joke about Ryno is a garbage human. You don't have to like the guy but a crash that injures your neck/back is possibly every rider/racer's biggest fear. I don't care who you are, I hate to see a fellow rider have that happen.

Surgeries don’t always go “boom boom smooth”. I hope his does. Gotta love his attitude. Hoping for successful surgeries and a fast recovery.

Motocross legend Ryan Hughes who was injured at Pala Raceway on February 13, 2013. Ryan sustained a number of serious injuries to his spine including a broken T-3 and shattered T-4, which initially caused paralysis to most of Ryan’s extremities. Fortunately for Ryan the paralysis was only temporary and he was able to regain feeling and movement after doctors successfully fused his back from T-2 to T-6. As of February 15th Ryan has endured 2 surgeries, the first surgery was performed when a blood clot again caused partial paralysis due to swelling near the spine and subsequent pressure to the spinal cord, and the second to stabilize his back.

Lets hope there is no 3rd round.

Ryno is a douche. Anyone telling people not to wear safety gear on a motocross bike is a penis. And anyone who goes off on a rant an hour after someone dies riding at glen helen deserves zero attention and should not be praised.

I didn’t hear anything about him hurting his knees in this crash….

Safety gear to me are boots, helmet, mx pants/jersey, gloves, goggles, knee pads and chest protector (which is what I’ve always worn). I don’t recall him telling anyone not to wear any of those items listed, do you? Anything beyond that is open for debate.
