Dad's Supermini class?

Man I wish there was a dad supermini class at local races. With Kawasaki coming out with a 112 and the ktm big wheel. They look like they'd be so fun to race.

I totally hear you guys but at that point just step up to a mans class and run a 125!!!!

I’m with you. Just race a 125 and have a bike actually sized for you. Unless your 5 ft tall, then just run the 112 in an adult class.

Yeah I hear you guys are saying. It is just so cool seeing when is super mini is being ridden to its full potential

In all reality, they should make a vet 125 2 stroke class. But they won't get enough entries so it will never happen. Hell Victory Sports killed the Open 2 Stroke class in all of their series' races this year.

Before you actually go out and buy one, a word of warning... I'm an adult on the smaller side (don't know if you are too), and a few years ago I bought a used 07 CRF150RB from a dealer. Got a great deal on it, and it was actually my first 4 stroke mx bike (wanted to see what all the fuss was about), I also had a 05 KX125 along with it. I test rode it in a dirt area the dealer had, but it's hard to get a feel for a bike that way. When I actually took it to the track, and later raced it a few times, had some time on it, I found I was a bit too big (around 5'4-5'5, mid to high 140s). The biggest problem I had was not enough room to move around on the bike like you need to. Just my 2 cents.

This actually sucks and you guys need to ride an 80 or supermini again. My dad built up a kx80 for big guys back in the day. I was maybe 20 at the time and tried riding the local mx track, it was gnarly even to jump the smallest doubles. More fun on a pitbike track but there you have wayy too much power and motors are way too pipey, just destroys the track and really isnt the most fun.

Would be cool with purpose built track I guess but 125s are just better, from a guy who has tried both as an adult rider

125 class in Wi. Has a decent turn out, depending on the track. Some tracks get aprox 28, this track the high temp was 42 , deep sand. Racer X vet race 125 class is a full gate.

Yeah you guys are nuts. I'm short and I can get on my kids 85 and move around pretty good but it's terribly cramped. No way in the world enough guys would get into this. We would all die because of the handling on them compared to what you expect on a bigger bike. Just the whole cockpit is way too small I lean back and feel like its going to loop out like RV at a GP.

Racing a worn out 1999 KX250 against new 450’s is actually pretty damn fun. And when I finish mid pack I can always blame the bike! Haha

A class of Adults - especially Vets - on Supermini's......

= C A R N A G E Blink Woohoo

But, 85cc / 112cc engines in full sized Chassis = The Most Fun Imaginable.

At the Cessnock ISDE I had a great job setting up and manning 'hidden' check points, to stop course cutting. I had my bike, and got to ride sections with the 85 class and 125s. The little bikes were amazing. At that point in my life, I was a pretty competent rider, with the advantage of having ridden the sections before the riders came through. Chasing the Worlds Best 85 and 125 riders really was a quite a challenge.

No not trying to start a new event. I don't think it would ever happen it was just an idea I thought was cool no one has to like it.

I am currently working with a kid who is on a 65 but has an 85 as well. While coaching him the other day I got on his 85 to show him some stuff and it felt awkward as hell. Handling was super twitchy. I wasn't trying to clear any jumps but when I would jump enough to land on top it felt like it could bite it at any moment. I am a 5'7 155lbs +30A guy just for comparison. It wasn't a big wheel nor was it a supermini but its close enough for me to say nay on the class suggestion. Also at our local races here in Illinois , I haven't seen but maybe 3 dads that could even fit on a smaller chassis bike. Plus like others have said with 10 different 50cc classes, the new womens, womens beg, girls 11-15, girls beginner , and every age vet classes ABC adding another class would probably be frowned upon.

I build electric conversions and this is my KTM85 big wheel. It's got full sized bike suspension and brakes and over 30 hp with more torque than a 450! It's plenty fast for anyone and although it'll easily pull an adult it can still get sketchy simply because of it's size (compared to a 125/250).

Yup 100% agree. A good kid on an 85 would be a handful for most vet riders on 125 or 250F. My kid is not the fastest kid around but he scoots pretty good on an 85. I can't imagine how much more he would wreck me on an 105 lol. It's crazy how fast these kids are on 85/105 bikes. I watch my kid every weekend pass and stay in front of riders with much faster bikes, it's crazy. Power to weight ratio is king!

Fast supermini riders can lay waste to schoolboy. Weight ti power ratio and turning radius helps with a talented kid.

Yup... just watch the supermini class at Monster Energy Cup. Those kids are doing a lot (not all) of the same jump combos the big bikes are doing on that track.

I think the flavor of the original post was "it'd be a fun ride...."

I'm 6'2" (maybe even 6'3"), and have an absolute blast riding my daughter's KX100. On a small, practice track built for beginners, it's a lot of fun. On a full size track....it gets wrung out pretty quick and I'm not hucking the big stuff, but the small stuff is a lot of fun when the bike weighs half what I do.

Now, in the woods - I feel like an absolute beast on the KX100. I can clear logs I'd never have dreamed I could...simply because I can lift the damn thing up like it's not even there. I can clear gnarly hill climbs because there's zero to no chance of loop out, I can put the thing wherever I want (again, I simply l lift it into the spot I want), there's no bounce back off of ruts on a vertical face, and I do not fear the bike rolling back over me.

Who knows if I'm going fast on it, but it feels amazing.

In fact, that sums up the idea of Dad's on supermini's. I get the same feeling on my son's YZ80 forked TTR125. I'm not beating anyone in a race...

But it feels like I'm going an incredible rate of speed!!!!
