Beautiful truck! My dream truck has always been a 70-72 Chevy 4x4 short bed.

2014+ have timing chains. Most old models have timing belts. There's a reason you don't see many old models on the road...if it has over 75k miles then get it's Timing Belt done as soon as you buy it. Piece of mind and will most likely last you another 75k till you have to do the timing belt again.

Swing and a miss Ford. A 4-1/2' bed makes that truck absolutely worthless for what I need. Why in the fuck can these guys just not get it...... We need a truck to carry shit, that's it. Lot's and lot's of shit, like seven feet worth of shit, that we can reach into the bed of the truck and grab without a ladder. I don't need gps or heated seats or electrical outlets or tv screens or pretty rims or black roofs or windsheild wiper activated headlights or any of that happy horseshit. We just want a cheap truck to carry shit around. Talk about "Over educated beyond their intelligence" Who even comes up with this crap ? Some 26 year old tech student who couldn't hang a picture on a wall ? A 4-1/2' bed..........sorry, that's not a "truck" insert eyeroll here
According to this article almost 85% of trucks sold in 2020 were crew cabs. At this point 2 seat trucks are a novelty, most people want the ability to carry a 3rd person or lock up their shit in the parking lot. The Maverick is definitely not for everyone, but it does offer 2 things that could sway people into a "truck" that wouldn't normally buy one, substantially better fuel mileage than even a midsized truck and a price on par with a smaller SUV.

2010 Frontier Crewcab. 303,000 miles. Still drives like the day I bought it. Most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned. Perfect for hauling two bikes. Tailgate down of course. 21mpg daily driver. 18 loaded with two bikes and gear.

i've never really used this term before, but I think it applies here

"Calm down, boomer"

Ford makes multiple lines of trucks (Maverick, Ranger, F150, F250, F350) and each one of them offers various models and packages. Fancy ones with all the shit you despise and even base models ones with an 8 foot bed for all your shit!

I built out a F150 2wd standard cab with the only option being the tow package for a little over 1k. Full size truck prices are crazy.

I've been looking at 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. Im looking at regular and extended cabs, long bed, 4wd, tow package/plow packages. With ford adding the 7.3 gas engine, GM and Ram just leaving the base gasser.
I can't come out under 40k and these are basic work trucks. Roll up windows, manual mirrors, etc.

Even on the used market I can't find anything worth my time thats under 20k. Of course a maverick isn't going to do what I'm looking for. But a sub 20k truck brand new sounds awesome, and lots of people don't need a super duty truck.

Took the plunge recently. Getting rid of my commuter (Hyundai Elantra) and decided to get me a little ‘17 Frontier. (still have the Expedition for towing trailer / boat, etc)

Frontier is fairly minimalist, king cab, 2wd, 4 cyl., man. transmission. AMP bed extender was easy to install and works great (especially with 2 bikes).

Overall, wish I’d done this a lot sooner. For the little day trips, it’s been great. The added bonus. I tend be better about washing my bike vs. “it’s not that dirty” and leaving in enclosed trailer.

Yes. Wasn’t until around 150,000 mile mark. No issues. But dealer recommended it. So took their advice since truck had performed so well up to that point. Regular oil changes. Brakes, trans fluid and coolant about every 100,000 miles. GOOD trucks. Earlier years had a coolant in trans fluid problem that some recommended a bypass. But mine wasn’t effected by that.

The Maverick looks like a great truck for a lot of users.
Some people need an F150, for some people they are too big, or too expensive.
Different vehicles, for different uses.

He might not be, but I'm going to. It'll be loaded to the gills, too. Lariat option, FX4 package, turbo, 4X4, towing option, and a few other silly tidbits as well. I have always loved smaller, more nimble vehicles, so for me, this little gem is EXACTLY what I've been hoping for.

I looked into it: I'm waiting on the 2.5/Hybrid XLT with all the goodies...only 2WD avail for the moment with the 2.5...? So, I asked the fleet guy to look into it.

I got the wife an Escape Titanium Hybrid AWD in Jan. It's got 9K miles on it already and has averaged 43 mpg...she commutes up-n-down the PCH and it gets crazy-good mlg on her day to day commute. The Maverick is the same powertrain.

This thing will be a great daily-driver and can still haul my bike to the local track when I need it to,

These are some of the most popular tracks here!

Here we have another discipline called VX ( Velocross) really popular in Brazil too, is a motocross prepped track but... without jumps 😂

I’ll throw some tear offs on and back you up in this, when there’s more cab then bed it’s not a truck anymore. Single cab, 6-8 foot bed, and decent gas (Bonus points for manual trans and window option), that’s all a lot of us want yet nobody seems to want to build it.

Hahaha you guys can give me all the shit you want, glass 1/2 empty old angry boomer whatever, you're probably right. But calling that thing a truck is like someone pissing on your back and calling it rain. It's more like a car with an open trunk. So yes when I read "Ford's coming out with a new mini truck for under 20K" I got excited, then I realized when they said mini they were talking about the size of the bed Laughing I'm sure they'll be comfortable and Ford will sell a bunch of them. I hope you guys that buy them love them.
I'll keep waiting for a smaller truck with a 6 or 7' long, LOW easy to reach into mini work truck. I've looked at F-150's and all the other trucks. I can't reach into the beds to grab parts, they're too tall. Give me all the shit you want I can handle it Laughing . If Toyota remade a brand new 1985 extra cab longbed again I'd buy one. Meanwhile I'll keep working out of my old beater. All I need is a long, low bed that's easy to reach into base model work truck, without a bunch of fancy extras. Just a basic mini work truck like you could buy 30 years ago. Why no one wants to make those anymore I don't know. All good carry on I'll just add that to endless list of other shit I just don't "get" Laughing

edit: yeah thanks JM485, you're gonna need those tearoffs lol

I never understood the attraction of a pickup, why would you tow around a truck bed all the time?

Get a sweeter ride and tow a trailer when you need to go ride.

I don't quite understand all this carping about the short bed - do you guys not have hands? Just take your tools and BUILD yourself a custom extension that's removable when you don't need it. That's what I plan to do.

But hey, why consider how to fix an easily solvable problem when whining is such a handy option?

I found the perfect truck for you, the side of the bed even flips down for easy reaching! Laughing

Seriously though, I would think Ford could modify a transit connect into a single cab long bed vehicle easier than modifying the bronco sport. It would still be fwd, unibody so not a truck!
