Gday, Thought some of you guys might like a few before and after pics of my 03 XR650R down in Sydney, Australia. Took around a year to get it sorted the way I wanted. She was a pretty neglected old thing (dead spider in the airbox, chain rusted stiff, not running, etc) when I got her. As you all know the hours spent on these projects are almost countless. Anyway love the 650R, these things sure do haul like a train. Big scary train, lol. Cheers

After some clear coat on the frame guards, new tires, and fork service, I should be able to hit the track and see if I can get used to this stink bug

2/28/2022 12:51pm Well... it's "done" for now. I'm sure this project will never end but it's good enough to ride now. Yeah it's not perfect but it was built to be ridden. I'm happy with how it turned out. Thank you to CRguy2T and rhalsted for helping me with some of these hard to find parts.

Got some different media today. About 95% done on the cylinder. Trying to get all the parts cleaned and ready for reassembly. Still need to get the cylinder replated, then I’ll do the bottom end myself. I’ll blast the cases with the media I got, should be turn out good! Stay tuned

So back on November 24th, I spotted a KX250 listed on Marketplace for a wallet breaking $600. After a brief conversation I was on my way. Upon arrival the owner informed me this was a 1 owner bike, also that the bike was a 2007. After checking the frame, I confirmed it on the spot. The bike blew up in 2008 and it has sat since then. The cylinder was gone as well as the shrouds. I gave him the $600 and was on my way back home. The bike still had the original warning stickers on the fender.

My 06 I built and owned for a year or two. It was fast but the bike felt like it wanted to slam me, too nervous feeling even with the 23mm offset clamps.

This 05 kx250 was a blast to ride, never lacking in power, had a 250f front end from a much later model though so handling was spot on but might not be typical of this bike.
