Ask Kyle Bentley how is dealings went with Pourcel. Christopher won two championships with Bentley but he never gave the dude a dollar in bonus money. Theres no rule saying you must bonus your mechanic in a winning season, but it’s the right thing to do. Even if it’s just a small percent, just enough to acknowledge there extra work and personal sacrifices that helped you claim those championships. Especially when you make a million or more in win bonuses alone in two seasons. That said, nobody I ever enjoyed watching ride a dirt bike more than the #377. Unreal talent
Dude, there are AMA pro's with huge contracts on factory bikes today who don't tip or bonus their mechanics for podiums

Boring

I agree. Dungey would put me to sleep. Roczen on the other hand was fantastic when he was on the Florida National broadcast. Cianciarulo is great behind the mic too.

I think MX114s point is that that they should tip their mechanics.

Hunting and eating your kill is far better than factory farming. Trophy hunting as mentioned earlier is fucked up but I don’t understand how you can say deer hunting is horrible if it’s turned into food but you will go buy a cheeseburger from the store.

Plus depending on the location, deer hunting acts as population control as they are pests and a lot of places require an “earn a buck” clause which means you need to kill a doe before you can shoot a buck.

His "opinion" may be that....

A quick googling shows Bentley talking pretty well about Pourcel, even mentioning that he rented a house to him not that long ago and certainly well after he was allegedly "stiffed".

Should Bentley have not accepted money for Pourcel using his property?

If ever want to give a listen I believe it’s pulp episode 392 w/ Kyle Bentley and Kenny Watson in studio. They dive into this subject with the different guests. I think everyone agreed it was really lame of pourcel. Yes I’m sure there’s riders w/ big contracts right now who do not bonus for a podium finish... but most would for a championship winning season. That’s a different scenario. Let alone two championship winning seasons. A few bones tossed Kyles way would of been the right thing to do in my opinion

Just to play Devil's advocate, does a championship-winning mechanic do anything much different than a 7th place rider's mechanic?

Nobody is perfect and GL made some huge mistakes with what he posted last week. Does he deserve to loose his jobs over it, I personally don’t think so. But maybe explaining to him that he’s a public image in a sport with a wide variance of fans, absolutely. Again personal opinion, I think he does great with the podcast and announcing. Best to let things calm down, offer a public apology to those he offended, learn from it and move on.

But fuck some of you can drag shit out on here, almost like you all are Bobby Bonds and even he’s let that go...

Wholesome milk drinking farm boy.

He owns that. That's awesome. More power to him.

But he's not going to wreck that for a podcast.
He's not going to open up or give out deep background stuff.
You'll get well crafted PC neutral responses.

Who honestly sees him saying "That guy sucks in corners, he can't turn right. He's like Zoolander"

He'd never give you that. He's a good guy and all, but he's not gonna give y'all what I think you're looking for.
Exactly!

GL's alright in my book. Great rider and great announcer and although I've never met him personally, he seems to be generally an overall good dude. Do I agree with everything he says? No! Does he say some stupid shiat occasionally? Yup, but don't we all? Some of you SJW's need to lighten up.

Oh and one more thing...he's a great addition to the WTS. I like the dynamic he adds and also appreciate the inside perspective he brings. Something 99.9% of the folks on this forum aren't qualified to do.

I’m not claiming to know Chris very well, but he knows my name and we have had a few good conversations over the years. He is truly a good guy who was misunderstood. If you initiate conversation with him, he will engage with you. He comes off as snobby because he is a shy and didn’t speak very good English.

Mitch will tell you how good of a guy he is if you ask him about him.

Now let’s talk about guys who don’t “tip” their mechanic. The guys at Yamaha would argue about who was going to be Reeds mechanic because they got treated like crap and nothing was shared with them. There are currently at least three guys who get on the podium regularly that don’t give their mechanic a dime.

Matthes has gone on record saying that Reed bonused out the entire Yamaha team one year, except him. Was it wrong...no but it might of been a low ball move I’d say. And I believe you know your stuff Uptite I value your input on anything moto, so if you say there’s top guys today who don’t bonus out then I’m sure it’s true and that’s just the way it is. I mean rumor had it that Tomac never even gave savatgy anything for that Vegas debacle at the monster cup. I’ve met Kyle Bentley a couple times back in the day when he was at PC thru a mutual friend who was a top level pro at the time. Really hard worker and nice guy was how I knew Kyle as from all accounts. That’s why I chimed in cause it must of been a bummer for Kyle to not get treated like he thought he maybe should have after how much he put into it. If care to listen episode 392 pulp mx Kyle gets into the Pourcel bonus subject less than 10 minuites into the podcast and it goes on throughout the show. It’s an interesting off season topic to discuss on vital I guess

I send my CSR a Christmas card with a check or gift card in it every yr. she doesn’t sell a single $1 for me but I couldn’t do my job without her and she is worth every cent of that check/card.

tipping (included in contracts) mechanics is very much an American thing (much like waiters/waitresses)..... i know that 10% used to be a standard figure mentioned, but in the MXGPs i think it's pretty rare to find any riders doing that. I feel like Pourcel is probably used to NOT tipping and as such, probably didn't realise he should... and if it's not in his contract, why should he?

Often case, it is the teams who pick which mechanic should work with which rider and so it's pretty unfair on Mechanic B to get zero bonuses from Rider B, when he does exactly the same job within the team as Mechanic A who gets a shitload because Rider A is better....

Bonuses should be exactly that, a bonus.... not expected, unless it is in a contract, which obviously it wasn't in Bentleys/Pourcel's case

Seems to me that if a mechanic wants a goal oriented bonus, they should negotiate that into their contract, just like the riders do.

However, personally if I made $1M in bonuses with support from another person, their Christmas stocking would be a bit heavier that year.

He called out Matthes and Pulp for having some political talk on his show, Matthes being Canadian is more liberal than most in the MX industry, GL is a hardcore Trumper. Matthes fired back, and they went back and forth for a bit. Then GL tried to cite youtube views to say the Whiskey Throttle Podcast has more listeners than Pulp. Tevin Tapia spoke up saying Matthes is a good guy who helped him when he was injured. GL called him an idiot for allegedly not having insurance. People started piling on GL and he started arguing with the commenters. It was a whole shitshow on Twitter dot com.

I think thats the whole story, did I miss anything?

I don’t do Twitter. What did he say?

I took a screen shot because I had a feeling his tweet would get deleted.
