Alex Martin on a KTM450

Can you honestly say that if you were a 450 team making hiring decisions, he would be your pick to take one of your two seats? Knowing that SX is what brings the sponsors who pay the bills, you'd hire a 31 year old who's never won an SX main in the 250 class.

I believe I’d give him a shot before a few others who have rides locked down.

I’d give Alex Martin a shot over Bogle, Bagget, Bloss, Mcelrath, Savatgy, Enticknapp, Hill, Friese.

And yes I know some of those guys have some serious credentials, so feel free to take a couple off the list you vehemently disagree with, and there’s still a couple left surely who he’s on equal footing with for a shot. Especially considering the last time some of them have really shown flashes at all.
Bagget? Really? I'm a huge Martin fanboy (see where I'm from), but you're nuts. The others I can at least understand, but no way would I give Alex a ride over Bagget.

I just think you know what you’re gonna get with bagget and Martin might kill it on a 450. That’s why I’d give him a shot but I can completely see why you’d think I’m nuts to think that. Which is why I said I think there’s plenty of others on the list he’s at least equal with.

Personally I would take a guy like AMart who you know is going to show up in shape and always puts in 100% over guys like McElrath or Bogle who you can’t always guarantee they will be putting in 100%.

Some of you are missing the point. There is really only 5-7 guys that can win a race and maybe 3-4 in the championship chase. The satellite teams would be great for AMart and he would do well with one of them and give great exposure for the sponsors as AMart will get a 450 in the main (maybe from LCQ but thats more TV time). He is worth a ride.

if Bar X team is truly having some rides in the 250 class - Alex would be great for the team and the riders as a mentor.

And please take the age out of the equation - we just had a first time Champ that is over 30.

Everyone said Jeremy Martin was too small and weak to ride a 450 and look how he did in Daytona.

I for one think Alex Martin is a stud and will kill it on the 450 when he gets there. The dude is extremely fit and motivated.

Have fun with your series with 5-6 or so riders in it.
To be fair almost entire 450 field has those stats matched or beat.

AMart deserves a solid support 450 ride IMO. Or

I got a call from Minnesota asking,"Who is this gt80rider A-Hole and does he know 'jack-shit' about how this all works?"

I was on my way to Glen Helen for what turned out to be a REALLY, REALLY, REALLY GOOD test day...and those of us at the track checking settings and changing parts had a good laugh about it.

So, it's like this;

IF you get a Good Paying OFFER to ride 250s...
AND IF you get NO COMPETITIVE PAYING OFFER to ride 450s...
Well, like in the movie "Speed"...
WHAT DO YOU DO?!?!

I'm jus' askin'...

I really hope he steps up to a 450 rider asap. I understand why he has been so long in the 250 class, especially when he was getting paid relatively well in the 250 class but now there are hardly any good rides left for him. Time to step up! I think he could do very well outdoors on a 450 considering his work ethic.

Some people want to be the best, some are happy to collect a paycheck for doing what they love. Nothing wrong with either. But lets not pretend that people in latter category are the former.

Depends on the money difference between Baggett and Martin. Seems like the butler bros team has anknserious money into Baggett and they've have gotten wins as a result. Another team like MCR or HEP probably doesn't have that kind of money. I might take A Matt over Bloss or Friese or some of the guys on HEP for similar money.

Yes, and there's a reason that he's 31 and still on the little bikes. He's never shown that he was worthy of a factory 450 ride. Is he one of the 50 best SX/MX riders in the US, yes. Unfortunately for him, there aren't 50 seats in the 450 class. He's very good, but he's no Davalos, much less Tomac.

Dunno, some ride the 450s better and what we see of his fitness and experience would lead me to believe he’d do quite well on a 450. The 250s are so dependent on engine development. And he was the only Suzuki 250 rider in us or Europe so that’s quite a disadvantage and he was still doing damn good.

Again, nothing against Alex, hes a bad dude! But looking at his results the past 10 years, his average finish is 11, all in the 250 class. ANd if you look in the last 4 years his average is 7.5. Good but again only in the 250 class. I hope he gets a ride somewhere, but he is not really factory material.

I'd love to see what he can do on a 450 outside if he can't secure a decent paying team ride. Possible injury fill in ride as well when training starts ramping up?

A-Mart is a totally unknown quantity on a 450, but I think it would go a lot better than most think.

How can he not be on PC though? If Mitch was willing to move heaven and earth to get Jeremy, why not try Alex, who is 90% there, and better on occasion?

Because, most likely, budgets are already set and contracts already signed.

I want him on a 250f..quoting from my post in another thread there's already 18 top 10 riders in the 450 class.

(Based on 2020 SX top 10's)
Tomac, AC, Roczen, Webb, Sexton, Barcia, Anderson, Osbourne, Mookie, Brayton, MM25, Baggett, Wilson, Tickle, Ferrandis, Plessinger, McElrath, Bloss
