Seems like it was more about Yamaha getting tired of Barcia, than the other way around. He seems to have gotten the blue bike where he likes it this year, and with Villopoto testing for them...might be a good move just to stick with what's working for him rather than start again with an all new bike/team/setup. I dunno...

Barcia was over Team Yamaha, not the other way around.

I’m sure Star taking over has a lot to do with him not fighting this.

So...is him staying at Yamaha hogwash, or a possibility?

It's happening. And Barcia/Bobby Regan are a match made in heaven.

Are Right of First Refusals entirely based around salary and monetary offerings? If Barcia didn't really like the bike, and wanted a new bike, could he use that as the basis for leaving?

My outside best guess is that Barcia didn't really want to leave, but was willing to if he found a higher offer. Basically using the GG as leverage.

The newer Yamaha seems to be more agreeable with riders.

Barcia doesn't hold the right, Yamaha does.

The first right of refusal clause is in almost everyones contracts and have been for years. This is the first time I've heard of a manufacturer actually utilizing it as both parties seemed to be over each other...maybe this has more with keeping Justin from moving over to the KTM/Husky/Gas Gas group and keep him on a Japanese brand...time will tell if we see more of this in the future...

The shit you miss when you are out in the world doing things...

Too bad that he's staying with Yamaha, I was hoping he could make even more enemies (if that's possible) by crashing into the few remaining riders he hasn't yet on the new Gas Gas...
Who hasn't he crashed into among the pros?

Serious question.

He did Sexton and Cianciarulo last weekend.

Hahaha.. Knew it! He signed, now his results will go back to normal... 7th-12th.... this is probably his last contract.... so we will probably never see him really pushing it ever again..... Dude had the speed to win it all, just not the head...

I haven’t seen Barcias contract but I can tell you that the contracts I’ve seen, the First Rights clause is air tight.

I can tell you in SLC, it said the bike was a shit box and he wanted off it.

I honestly don’t know why Yamaha would still want someone who was trying hard to leave.

Maybe after talking to Bobby Raven, he changed his mind.

One thing is for sure, he will make good money.

RV2 is now testing for him, they changed his mechanic, and he's riding a lot better. He chased down Tomac, and was only a second behind him at the checkers a few weeks ago. Things have definitely improved for Barcia at Yamaha... Why take such a huge risk by racing a Gas Gas?

He'd be stupid to leave Yamaha at this point, especially with the bike, and support he has now.

I'm a big Barcia fan, but if he said the bike was a shitbox in SLC, then he's covering his own ass. I've rode for over 45 years, every brand under the sun. In 2018, Yamaha completely changed the 450 to be a good bike.

With that being said, the 2020 YZ is by far the best bike I've ever rode. If Barcia is not making it work for him, thats on him. However, I do know that the people that Yamaha just let retire and let go had some seriously hard heads and might not have let Barcia make the changes he wanted.

Something that I think would be solved if Star does take over the factory effort.

So what you are saying is if the bike works for you it should work for Barcia as well. LOL

There were things they still weren’t letting him change and that the team was clinging to using at Salt Lake that didn’t agree with him. Shortly after that they finally gave in on a few things. Some factory parts aren’t always better then production...

For the life of me I will never understand McCarty’s decisions on being so stubborn. Here’s to hoping the new management communicates with Japan and Star is able to right the ship. Yamaha is a great brand and I hope they become a real powerhouse race team like the 250’s.

That Yamaha team had all the makings of a championship team- the right people in the right spots.
Some of the best Mechanics, Team Managers, Chassis Guys, Riders, Etc.

But the one uncontrollable factor never lined up for them- full on team chemistry.

For whatever reason ( "Old Guard" management tactics, strict factory bike settings /changes, hot headed riders, bike)
-it just never came together for them. And it's a shame- because it could have. It should have.

They made strides in the right direction- the bike would get better. Results would get better. Then backwards...

Teams are living, breathing things. There are forces at play that are unexplainable. It can't be seen- but it can damn sure be felt.

The MASSIVE changes in personnel and positions will- and have helped the team.

Broc Tickle is one of the best test riders in the game. Period. His feedback is easy to interpret, and complete with possible fixes- not just "yes it's good- no it sucks".

Barcia is undeniably fast af. When it all lines up for him, he can win on any given track- on any given day. His raw talent is unmatched when he can let it show.

It breaks my heart to see great managers/mechanics/ riders/teams to get shaken up and /or displaced- but complacency will eventually kill results. This is somewhat necessary for team evolution.

Time will tell if the moves were right- or if the future moves will be in the right direction.

This is just one of the many variables that makes up racing- and I love it.

Serious question.

He did Sexton and Cianciarulo last weekend.
I dont think he has hit Friese yet, that would just be some funny ironic shit to see those two go at it.

I guess we have to wait till next year for that one.

I've tried to listen and I get bored. Not criticizing , that's just me. I don't care for any talk radio or interview format. I figure if there's any news worth hearing it will eventually be here or racerx etc. I'd rather read than listen. And most interviews with riders , former or active are too long and drawn out for me. The only podcast I've ever lasted till the end was the one done here with Broc Glover.

Until you have worked in a factory team, you have no comprehension of the fact that there are people in charge that would rather lose, than have something that wasnt their idea win.

And yet it happens. A lot.

Its amazing given the rep that the big YZ has had at the pro level. You'd think Yamaha would do basically anything to make the bike shine. But there have been tons of stories over the years of teams being stubborn when a rider wants something different.

That's not even true. It was only one week ago when Yamaha made their rebuttal... You're making stuff up.

Pulp MX didnt break this story, nor did they even hint at at it until the story line was already made public.

Yup.. managers on back handers to use certain parts , giving mates jobs who cant cut it, and as i said, refusing to allow things that arent their idea.

Then you get a 'them and us' atmosphere, where the people doing the job, lose the will to live because its a waste of time, the rider / driver gives up, and it spirals downwards.

Meanwhile the man at the top blames every else, fires the good people and hires his mates. Things dont improve, and the old crew get the blame.

Seen it first hand in MX, MotoGP F1 and WRC, and lost jobs because of it.

That's why it's called a team. If the coach or GM sucks you won't win.
