Maybe I don't understand the current situation. Somebody set me straight. I thought Feld owned the rights to SX. I thought MX Sports owned the rights to MX. I never liked the circus atmosphere that Feld brought to SX (they are circus people...look it up). DC and MX Sports are core (disagree and see how high the flames get on yer butt). How can it be bad for core folks to run the whole shooting match? Now remember, the AMA/FIM control the rules on race day so you can't blame Feld or MX Sports for that stuff. Discuss.
It’s my understanding Daytona motorsports group (DMG) own the rights to the motocross series and MxSports pays them to them run the series.

I didn't know that. I thought Daytona was a "one off" event.
Old news, but here's a link. Honestly, I'm not as involved as I used to be within the industry, so things could have changed since this.

DMG owns the rights and leases them to MX Sports IIRC? The rules are dictated by the promoters not the AMA.

Personally , I hope DC never stops running the Nationals. The guy is a true to life , die hard moto fan that lives , eats and breath's this sport. And that is exactly the type of guy I want running our nationals.

Again though , I'm lost on all this , because I don't listen to podcasts.
agree with this, MX sports is a small organisation with a passion for MX, Feld is a corporate that only cares about the bottom $$ of SX, and with Live sports events maybe being impacted for next year as well, it may make sense to cash out,

on the pulp MX Show they mentioned SX had been for sale for a while, i presume it would be as a package with Monster Trucks, so I cant see if being cheap,

well they have to do something right?

Like hold 2 races at one venue per weekend.

or 2 per stadium per weekend

holding more at the same locations saves tons in setup and tear down fees.

know this much.

no matter what the "big deal is" 50% if the fans will hate it. Smile

out of all the speculations

I think a partnership between both series is necessary. Things in general, from my eyes, were smoother when the ama had control of both series and the same people were at each race.

and with everything that happened this year i think this was one of the biggest issues that both series worked together on.

Quite the runaway train you guys have going here. I clipped a mention of Qanon, which is probably good for the people who quoted it. Remember, folks, this is a politics-free zone. Post about politics at your peril.

1. A late start of the series in 21 ? I would not be surprised to see the same kind of format as in SLC, with double or triple headers, from april to july. Covid makes SX really unprofitable without fans, Feld must be in a "stop loss" situation. Even with 5000 people allowed in the stadiums, and with an effort on the stadium leases, it may still be hard to break even.

2. With the increase of bikes sales, tv networks may also be more interesting in mx/sx.

If I mention why something gets clipped, people complain.

If I don't mention why something gets clipped...yeah, you know what comes next.

I'm all for one unified series, 24 rounds, indoor (sx) and out (mx) style tracks intermingled. Three classes = 125/250/450. One champion for each class. This would be the ultimate series. DO IT ALREADY!

I heard Infront Moto Racing was going to submit an offer to buy Feld the rights of SX, in an effort to unify all series and create the ultimate moto brawl championship in order to define the FMOTP for all and once.
Won’t happen but would be so cool to have a true world championship with AMA and Mxgp series merged.

Since no fans/vip because of covid, teams will be allowed to sell merch in pits.

I would love to see a 125 class and dump the 250 class. The 250s do pretty much everything the 450s do. I'd like to see the days when some bikes could make the triple and some couldn't.

One would have to think Feld Entertainment is in a bit of a pickle financially; revenue is basically frozen, and seems the return of live action events, sports or non sports, inside arenas is a ways off. Not making assumptions, but say the Feld Motorsports section is being offered for sale, I imagine finding a buyer willing to take on an investment that leans heavily on putting butts in seats rather than TV revenue is going to be tough sale.

The bigger question to me is, if Feld can’t survive the next 6-12 months, what happens to SX and who’s in position to still make the series as a promoter happen?

Supercross and monster jam are the only FELD properties that are televised as far as I know. The rest of their live shows are completely shut down for who knows how long. Maybe a year or 2 of a cheaper to run SX series with multiple rounds at the same track wouldn't be such a bad thing for a number of parties involved. See the GEICO thread.

Knowing nothing about Feld or their debt load (and with debt edging towards free at this point in corporate history) -- what are their expenses while not operating events, given that they have laid off their entire event staff company-wide.

How desperate are they really?
