Guessing that the time the decision was made to race on the west coast, covid-19 was stabilizing and on the decline.
Things have gotten worse since then and this is necessary to have higher confidence in racing uninterrupted.Least worst decision wins.

Ultimately this is better for the riders and teams, reduces and travel and cost. It's too bad for Washougal and the Huffmans, but their race will survive an absence in 2020.

Most of the other sports have fallen apart when one of the athletes or a person with the organizer tests positive.

OK ... who broke their bubble and got shite-faced at the strip club !!

Yeah, since there’s only one stop light in that little village the odds of running in to trouble are just huge......

I live in Portland, and yes we have those dumbasses roaming around a couple of city blocks in downtown, its not as bad as the news portrays. Is it good, no, but I personally haven't seen a single rioter. But I avoid downtown like the plague even before the idiots started gathering. Just FIY on that stuff.

Anyone who says it’s cause of the rioting are fucking clueless. The rioters have done absolutely ZERO damage outside of a little 5-6 block radius in downtown. Portland is a pretty huge area. Washougal isn’t even on the same side of the fucking river as Portland. Riots got nothing to do with this one boys.
Perception is reality.

MX Sports Pro Racing Announces Cancelation of Washougal National, Will Host Second Round at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch

Scheduled Round 2 Date Remains Unchanged for August 22

With hours before the start of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, series organizers MX Sports Pro Racing have announced the cancelation of the MotoSport.com Washougal National, presented by Peterson CAT, originally scheduled to serve as the second round of the amended 2020 season. Following a meeting between the Race Leadership Team (RLT) and the series’ OEM partners a collective decision was made to move the location of Round 2, on Saturday, August 22, to Loretta Lynn’s Ranch, the site of this weekend’s season-opening event.

The Washougal National had been previously approved for 2020 at both the local and state level in Washington, based on the COVID-19 Health and Safety Plan that had been submitted by the organizers several months ago to the necessary regulatory agencies. Continuing approval of the event had been reiterated from Clark County, within which Washougal MX Park is located, as recently as this morning, August 14. However, based on newly imposed restrictions within the state of Washington as it relates to COVID-19 infections, the RLT, in consultation with the sport’s OEM partners, have collectively decided that in the best interest of series participants, the event will be canceled.

“The decision by the Race Leadership Team and our OEM partners to cancel the Washougal National is both unexpected and disappointing,” said Roy Janson, Director of Competition at MX Sports Pro Racing in a statement. “The comprehensive Health and Safety Plan, prepared specifically to address COVID-19 issues and related prevention and mitigation efforts, submitted and approved both at the local and state level, provided extensive directives designed to address every concern raised by these officials. The Health and Safety Plan, which is based on state policies currently in place under orders by the governor, is fully compliant with all CDC, state, and county health department guidelines, and provided for pre-admission screening of all pro athletes and their crew members, including non-contact temperature testing prior to being allowed to access the venue.

“Ryan Huffman, the event organizer of the Washougal National, did everything within his power to organize a safe event for both professional and amateur competitors,” added Janson. “We commend him for the extensive efforts and sacrifices made to make the 2020 Washougal National a reality. Unfortunately, as we have become increasingly aware, circumstances surrounding the spread of COVID-19 can change dramatically in a matter of hours. We did not reach this decision lightly and the circumstances are entirely out of Ryan’s control. We look forward to bringing the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship back to Washougal for the 2021 season. In the meantime, out of convenience to our teams and competitors, the logical decision was to return to Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in one week’s time.”

Tickets for Round 2 at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch will go on sale tomorrow and will remain limited to 5,000 spectators. It will be a single-day event featuring professional racing only, with no amateur support competition.
I don’t think that there have been any new restrictions announced for WA or Clark County, certainly can’t find any mention of any changes since this morning.

I actually do understand why the circus may not want to risk traveling up this way, but I wish that they’d specifically say what the alleged changes were today.

If there were no restrictions, and I certainly can’t find any, then it sounds dishonest to blame the decision on that. I think that just saying “It’s a long trip for an event that may be canceled” should be reasoning enough.

I doubt the track will change much in one week. Why don't they have round 2 at Muddy Creek?

Washougal has long been a sore spot in the schedule for travel, which apparently had nothing to do with this. Perhaps this will help them fit into a more logical West coast tour in the future. Common sense is not so common.
A large part of America wants nothing to do with WA and Portland right now and you can't blame them.

This is like when x-mas used to come around and I would ask my dad for a set of new gear every year and he would say, “just be glad you have any gear at all!”

(1) That race is almost two months away, and;

(2) The Pala Band of Mission Indians own the land and polices the town, they may be able to skirt whatever guidelines San Diego County puts out by then,

The Huge Casino has been allowed to open so lot of people are visiting from all over SoCal, they bring bus loads of gamblers in every day from Orange County.

Fingers Crossed.

You correct on all that Craig , except one thing. They are still attacking the N and NE police precincts. But I have no clue as to why they would cancel the race? The spots of rioting / violence bullshit is no where near any where a person would want to go to for the race. I do know of something bad that happened up there a couple weeks ago , and I'm hoping that isn't the reason why they cancelled the race. That's all I'll say on the matter.
Was it the COVID-19 death?

It will be interesting to see what happens. Native American communities have been ravaged by covid and unsurprisingly, they arent too excited about motorcyle fans bringing more virus

The press release said the reason. Why the hell can't you and others trust MX Sports is doing the best they can to get races going and they ARE! Who cares if there are two races at Lorettas. Better than none or Teams driving across the country for the race to get shut down on Friday. How would you like that option?

I don't care if there are 2 races at Lorettas, but you don't think for 1 second that it doesn't bother thousands of us in the PNW who just had our vacation ripped away at the last minute you are damn silly. Our government isn't the reason the race got cancelled, why it was cancelled does matter to some of though. Were you going to be attending Washougal?

They will let those bastards fuck there own city up, and tell cops to leave them alone, but they are going to keep non criminals from coming up there and staying to themselves to race a race, and get the hell out. Smh

I was not, but the race has only been planned for month and things are changing daily with this across the country. They clearly wanted to come there or it wouldn't have been planned to begin with. Planes fly to Nashville. Quick drive to Lorettas.

The press release said new restrictions. I can’t find any new state restrictions today, nor could I find any for Clark County.

I think that’s just a throwaway for not just wanting to say that it was too risky of a business decision. Which it probably is.

Not having the Washougal race is disappointing, but I understand why it was probably cancelled. But it doesn’t appear to have been because of any new restrictions, as was stated.

That’s what I am saying. I just wish there was at least some transparency in this. And 810- it’s easy to not get pissed when your vacation and thing you look forward to all year wasn’t taken away less than 5 days before you were supposed to leave.

How did you look forward to something all year that was planned for 30 days and clearly stated things could change at any time? I understand it sucks, but challenging the promoter who busts their ass for us to have outdoor MX is not cool IMO. How much cash do you think they are hemorrhaging this year due to 9 rounds instead of 12 with half the fans or less?? Maybe the track owner didn't acquire the proper permit or the county pulled the rug out at the last minute? All kinds of things going on with this COVID BS and some of it makes no sense.
