First one for me was in about 1976 my dad took us up to the Brown City track north of Detroit. As a 6-year-old I was completely enthralled by all the cool yellow bikes and the helmets and gear. As I recall the turnout was huge and the sights and sounds hooked me for life. Starting in around 1979 we attended the Silverdome supercross yearly. Finally around 1982 we first attended Red Bud. Saw Magoo crash over and over but he would get up and pick people off every time and get to toward the front. I wish I still had the little signed photographs all the big name riders had.
Me: "I want to do that"
Dad: "No way, murdercycles are dangerous"
25 years later entered my first race at Carlsbad. Been hooked ever since.
Next race was the 1990 Atlanta Supercross, which many say was the best supercross of all time due to the number of top name riders who took lead at one time or another during the race. It was nutso, the crowd was standing the entire main. Also cold as fuck!!!
My first race was around the same time at Hillbilly Hills MX in Macon GA, I raced a 1985 KX125 and finished 13th overall in the C class out of 45 riders. They had to start some riders behind the first row there were so many racing that class.
First pro race I ever attended was the Seattle Supercross at the Kingdome back in 88 on my birthday in February, got a picture with RJ. Best day ever.

DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
I finished second in Mini Sr. and felt like I was Bob Hannah because of the sexy big trophy I received. Got smoked the next week at the Austin Night Track, but got in the groove later that year and raced for years.
Won't ever forget that first 30 second card turning sideways!!
My first race was at Sandhill Ranch in April(I think) '83 and I got 9th of 13 in the 60cc class
Dust was so bad they had to water the track for practice like a mud hole. They had a strightaway jump and all I remember was landing in this giant mud hole. Many did face plants in the mud. Some got hurt and hauled off in an Ambulance.
It was stil fun and I went back quite a few times and raced at that track but I never liked it. Something about that track I did not like. I even went back a year or two later with quite a bit more experience and solid modifined CZ and I still did not like that track and could never get around it like I could at Big Red other others tracks in Oklahoma.
First Race
Fall 1985 - 17 years old. Wanted to start racing motocross, so I went to the Wednesday night races at Fremont Raceway in California. Just as a spectator to check it out first. Well, unbeknownst to me moto had the night off, but the drag strip was open. So, I signed up my parents Datsun 200SX, "dialed it in" at 18 seconds and made a number of runs / side by side races. The head-start "bracket style" they gave me was hilarious.
First MX Race
Few weeks after my Drag Strip debut
First pro race was Houston SX 2002. Crazy race looking back now, wish I remembered it. The only thing I remember from that night is the huge line to get in. I must not have been hooked into moto quite yet.
Pit Row
I remember sitting on the hill during the riders meeting, Howerton, Mosier, Jody, all the fast guys were there.
Local amateur race 1990
I was in love at first sight..
I had already been riding and watching on TV before that though
"I want to see a motocross race" on the way home about two miles from the house we got t-boned by a drunk driver totaled the family station wagon. No one hurt. Was a very memorable birthday for an 11 year old.
Four years later at that race Decosters front end broke off his Suzuki, spectacular crash.
Also reminded me of how scared I was when I pulled up to the starting line. Then when they started to stretch that rubber tubing I really got scared. I guess I was 16, 17 years old in 1972.
needless to say I didn't get the hole shot!!!!
My only memory was how fast the winning 80 expert rider was, just incredible to watch. He seemed faster than the big bike pros. I did not know who anyone was (I was just a kid), but I recall thinking it was odd he had his "first" name on the back of his jersey. That Blake guy was fast....
It wasn't until about a year later when I started going more regularly that I realized who it was- Troy Blake (RIP).
My first race (80 beginner) was 1982 at Deer Valley Cycle Park, in practice Bryan Bruner passed me going so fast it scared the shit of me. My race ended in the first turn of 1st moto, guy in front of me crashes. I didn't crash but put my foot down to not fall and another rider ran over my ankle and caused a slight fracture.
Next race was 2 months later at Canyon, first turn of 1st moto I had a good start but this little tiny asshole on a CR80 came inside of me and took my front wheel out. It was Jimmy Button's first race on an 80 (he was still racing the 60cc class too). I think he was 9 or 10 at the time. So my first 2 races did not go well from the start...
