Didn't Gary Semics state that Kenny should take some time off to recover and the professional practicers said no way. Hope kenny can get some rest and recovery and live his life to the fullest. Whether he continues riding or decides to take a break i'd still consider him to be one of the greats that graced this sport.

Is there any chance his breathing difficulties could be related to his shingles diagnosis?
No but depending on the severity of his asthma he could be on steroid (not anabolic) which can result in a depressed immune system. “I’m a doctor and I’m here to help.”

Huh?
He's going for Worst Post of the Day. Unfortunately, it's not an award we offer or recognize.

For what it’s worth, WebMD says severe cases can involve pulmonary swelling, which would for sure affect breathing.

Yeah, the Vital mob told him to kick rocks and he didn't know what he was talking about...

He can't catch a break.

Sure is different now with the riders. In the old days people like Chad Reed would never say a thing if he was hurt or sick. He did not want to show any weakness to the other riders.

True, my old Auntie had shingles and she said the itching and burning from the lesions were nothing...it hurt far worse trying to breath. She was tougher than a 2 dollar steak so I tend to believe her.

Just wish him the best. Health problems suck and at this level it has to be difficult. He has the speed and talent for sure. Healthy Ken would be very hard to beat week in and week out.

In this case...Kenny's results are screaming. Best to get out front of things.

I had shingles 4 years ago and I'm extremely unlucky in that I'm currently suffering from it right now again on my right leg (rare to get it twice)

It's miserable, I feel bad for him and anyone who's had it. We've had one of the hottest summers in years and I can't wear shorts! Guy can't seem to catch a break.

Then got opthalmic shingles a few years ago where it comes out through your eye and onto your face...was onto it very quick and got the anti viral medicine..opthalmic shingles can send you blind if you dont catch it early
Yep, had the same thing about 25 years ago when I was early 30's.

They warned me I could lose vision but other than my eye still seeming to water before the other my eye made it through ok.

Had them all over my forehead too, and all this time later my forehead itches when I get nervous or stressed. Completely ruined my hopes of being a professional poker player...

I feel for kr94, but his best bet now is probably to sit out and rest and try to be ready for the outdoors. The body aches and fatigue will most likely be too much.

If Ken was a boxer, his team would throw the towel into save him so he could fight another day.

If he ends up with suppressed immunity and skin lesions, a the grime and soil bacteria could make it worse this summer with outdoors.

What a terrible shame

I’ve been currently dealing with shingles for 6 weeks. I just hit forty and never thought about shingles until I woke up with em out of the blue. I’m 40 and it great shape. I don’t get sick, etc. These things are brutal. I’ve never had anything where I literally get every symptom and sometimes at the same time. Muscle pain, nerve pain, chills, fatigue, headache, and all of this with your skin feeling like fire ants with bee stings. I’ve been super critical of Kens excuses over the years but if he has shingles his finishes as of late are definitely explained. I’m just a slow vet rider but trying to ride with shingles is definitely not ideal.

No - anyone that has had chicken pox - varicella - can get them later in life due to stress or a compromised immune system.

Once you get chicken pox the virus is always with you. As I recall, it resides in your nervous system for the course of your life.

So key takeaway is - if you had chicken pox when you were younger you may get shingles in the future - so you got that going for you. Grinning

His body has been through years of extreme stress to begin with just by training as hard as these athletes have to, then it had major trauma 2 years in a row which places immense load on his body. His immune system was probably already depressed just from that, not to mention it hardly had time to rest and recover given Kenny's determination to get back to racing. That probably made it easier for the EBV to take hold which compounded things, and now his body is a mess and he is much more susceptible to viral issues. I don't doubt what he says for a second, we've seen how he can perform and I believe Wednesdays race was him trying to prove that he is every bit as fast as the top guys, he just can't sustain it like he used to after hitting that wall. The man needs to take the outdoors off, relax, not train much at all, supplement certain things, and get his body back to a healthy place. There aren't any shortcuts which is a painful realization but for Kenny it could mean the difference between being forced into retirement or having another 4 years of great riding. I know which of those I'd rather see happen.

You can get chickenpox from someone with the shingles. Even children who have been vaccinated and not had chickenpox can get the shingles.

More reading from a site that mainstream medicine would not approve of: https://thevaccinereaction.org/2018/12/is-the-chickenpox-vaccine-creati…

Ken has won me over as a fan with his determined comeback and general positive attitude regardless of his latest results. I hope his health improves. If I we’re a part of his team I would have him see some more naturally minded doctors for an evaluation. Though the Surgeries and recovery Ken has made is amazing, he’s probably taken a lot of antibiotics that can severely harm your immune system.

Such a bummer. So clear there’s an issue. Earlier season kenny would’ve forced a pass on webb and checked out.

Go get the shot!!!! I had them for the first time last summer... Pins and needles at the rash areas, but also had a fairly high fever and felt like I did when I actually had the chicken pox...

Son of a gun, I feel for the guy. Going fast for 15 mins isn’t the answer at this level, imo he needs to just step away for a while and get over this

Like a miracle maybe it'll just
... disappear!

Damn shame for Kenny. At least he knows what's wrong and can hit it head on now.

I do wonder if Kenny over-trains or something, his health is often suffering towards the end of each season. It sux to see, I hope he can figure it out!

I had a couple surgeries on a shattered elbow similar to Kenny’s, but not as bad. My whole system was fucked up for a long time. He had 10 surgeries in six months. Amazing he’s even out there.
