Why don't the company making the plates put a hole in them or something in the graphic that states that it's a replica. A simple fix so everyone knows whats legit and what's not.

Maybe when he gets number plates to sign he should sign the word "Fake" on them and hand them back. No one does any profiting and the kid still has a number plate signed by Chad Reed, win win.

Why doesn’t Feld take its head out of its ass and allow the riders to sell their own signed jerseys, helmets (after a wreck), number plates etc. Riders would be getting a return on their likeness and the quality would kill the generic crap that feld sells as souvenirs. I know I have a beat to crap drum skin with the signatures of all the Godsmack members that I bought. I like this type of personal stuff, but I try very hard not to encroach on persons time. I remember as a kid standing in line to get signed pictures and sticks of Bobby Hull, Anderson Hedberg and Ulf Neilson. They were smart in that each asked me my first name so the could write “To Byron, have a great season”. By doing that it increased the value to me personally, but drop the value on the open market. As a side note, Hull wouldn’t sign my stick until I got a young pretty girl to come over to talk to him. He was a classic.

Just think of how many AC9 helmets I could have bought this year if this was allowed! (I am joking Adam, but I would buy one of your one and done helmets with your signature on it)

People selling signed stuff makes me sick. Riders think you are a fan and sign something for you and you're just there to make easy bucks. Never sell signed stuff. Trading is fine but selling is not.

Maybe he realized that it was a replica, and didn't want someone to pass it off as a real thing?
That's exactly what happened and I can appreciate Chad not wanting to sign it.

It’s about protecting the consumer.
If the athlete signs replica equipment/gear and it is sold on the market as authentic, the consumer is a victim of fraud and the athlete’s signature is what “appears” to authenticate the item. Not everyone is savvy enough to know the difference between real and fake, and even harder to tell by an eBay photo.
The athlete can try to protect their fans by refusing to sign anything that isn’t authentic.

Should some guy with a local dye sublimation plant be able to just copy out a bunch of faux Fox jerseys and ask CR22 or KR94 to sign them? Sign anything stuck in their face, real or fake, no questions asked?

Or try to make a policy to only sign authentic things in order to protect their fan base from fraud?

Reed continuing to be a life long dbag. Wonder if an NBA or NFL star would refuse to sign shoes and jerseys for that little guy? Sheesh.

I know one professional athlete that would refuse to sign. Nike owns Michael Jordan’s signature. He is legally forbidden to sign memorabilia.

Understood. But this Chad Reed, a far cry from MJ.

Be in the pits right after the race and beg. Or get to know people on HRC Honda and beg.

If it was a fake (replica) pair of shoes or jersey, you bet they’d refuse

Oh, you know why they’d refuse? They don’t get a cut off of fake merch.

The more I hear from the OP, the more it was for him, and not the kid.

I understand that as well, but how could they tell on the spot unless it was egregious? I guess I don't analyze plastic enough but I wouldn't have known that plate was a rip off at a quick glance.

The best way is to form a friendship with the mechanic. These guys bust their balls, the hours are grueling and a little recognition goes a long way.

Rather teach the kid not to put value in some persons signature, never undetstood the vaule of an autograph, or how we make a person a celebrity...but i wouldnt mind having Chad's bike, or even an hour drinking a beer with him and hear a few stories....dude is just another dude.

Go stand in the paddock at F1, especially a test day. People walk around with a stack of cards with drivers pictures on them asking them to sign a Bunch saying they are a huge fan. They then put them in their rucksack and pull out the next drivers. Some don’t even bother to claim to be a fan anymore, it’s their little business. Cards go straight online.

Now, I gotta light this fluffer up... Dude, seriously? You are completely wrong... Why not grow a set and try some cbd? Or grow a bigger set and try some actual cannabis?? Otherwise, you know absolutely nothing about this subject and are not even allowed an opinion... Oh and .. you come across as a 4 yr old...

I'm not sure what's going on with this site but like someone mentioned earlier, there was a story about Roczen also refusing to sign a replica plate.

(Bootleg site name removed)

Might be something to do with this person profiting off of the riders' names, without giving the riders a cut.

These are pro athletes that make millions of dollars and are worried about someone else making a few hundred dollars at most. That is sad
Its not about Reed not wanting someone to profit $200, its more about him not wanting another person to get scammed in to thinking the plate is an original, used by him.

Reed does autograph sessions, yes? He literally gives his autograph away F.O.C, yes??
Come and get it, get the autograph for no charge, everyone can have one, there is no limit. But don't try to pass off 'memorabilia' as being formerly his, or used by him. Thats not fair if someone gets duped in to thinking that.

Because that would take money out of Feld's pockets.
