35 wins no title to me is more impressive than 9 wins and a title but let's see where they end up when it's all said and done. Eli has arguably shown some of the greatest speed ever seen on a motorcycle too, so there's that.

Both. Windham, Bradshaw, Emig, Bayle, Lechien, Magoo...etc could all be considered legends. There's no one definition for a legend, but it's easier to label after they retire.

Maybe OP is concerned Eli will not reach legend status and want opinions other than his own.

Championships help and wins help however neither is required to achieve legend status and wins and championships do not guarantee legendary status.

To be a legend you have to do it your way all the way through. Its how you win your championships and your impact on the fans. Partially record book for me

a legend in my opinion is if the persons body of work draws emotion out of multiple people whether good or bad.

Tomac has more premier MX championships and/or wins than RV, Mcgrath, JS7, chad reed...the list goes on. All those guys are in the legendary category. He will most likely be 3rd all time in premier MX wins by the time he retires. He may not end up with an SX championship however he has a shot to become 6th maybe even 5th all time in premier SX wins. Legend in the making, people just won’t appreciate it until he’s not out there anymore

Dale Earnhardt is just one example of a legend. He knew what he wanted, worked his tail off to get it, and died for it.

Indeed, the legend status for me is a rider we will never forget. So there are many. Example, Guy Cooper. 0 or 1 main event win, but his style was so beautiful to watch that people will always remember him.

35 wins is a great achievement, not as good as winning a title though.

To me I guess a legend is someone who is remembered as one of the greats of their time for decades after their career has ended. This will put McGrath, Carmichael, Stanton, JMB, Bradshaw, Stewart, Reed, Roczen, Tomac, Barnett, Hannah, Dungey, Villopoto and others in that category. "Legend" doesn't need to be a single person.

The test of time makes a legend. If they are referencing you 10 years after retirement, most likely you have reached or at least approached legendary status.

4+ 450 titles(mx or sx combined) OR top 7 all time wins.

RV, legend.

ET, legend because 3 mx titles and an all timer on sx wins. But id still consider him on the lower tier of legend status.

Anderson, not legend. 1 title not many wins.
