Most assuredly helped with chronic neck/shoulder and low back issues from years of construction.

My primary care doc refused to send me to an Osteopath and would only prescribe 800 mg Motrin for pain. It was worthless. My buddy l grew up with had become a chiro and begged me to let him help. So l did. Best thing l've ever done. I've only been to him or his partner so l can't speak to the industry as a whole and l know there's some shady mofos out there but name an industry that doesn't habe that problem.

I always recommend to at least try them. Every doc has the potential to fuck your shit up so that argument falls flat as well.

Needed to see a chiropractor for years as my right leg is 1 1/2" shorter from riding dirt bikes plus other beat up shit.

That was 8 years ago. I stretch nearly every morning. The primary stretch is the psoas stretch. One leg up on the kitchen counter 90 degrees to the floor and lean into it. Change legs...after that any kind of stretch you want, just keep it up.

Ha no offense but I’ve been to enough PT’s to feel like a lot of what they do is pretty vague at best. Always get a kick out of the contortions they get themselves into to “work” a muscle.
I have had them help though so won’t really discredit the profession. Same goes for chiros I suppose.

Don’t Chiros have 4-5 yrs of university? Is that the same for PT’s?

It all comes down to the person doing the work in either profession don’t you think?

The guys not 100% wrong. As we all have different situations but many back issues stem from a sedentary lifestyle.

I've had a chiro help quite a bit in several cases. But I've only seen one guy. And it is worth it.

I'm also from a family of MD's in the bay area.... The MD's feel like most have stated here... some are good and some are bad.

Having been run over and many crashes in BMX as a kid. Then a rollover when pushed off the freeway by a semi. My back was a mess. Always in shape from biking and motocross. All the pinched nerves finally slowed me down. Had a really good chiro who did X-rays. Figured out what was in the wrong spots and by how much. Few months of adjustments three times a week. Night and day. Def not a back cracker or one to use the machine. Later on few moto crashes. Shoulder and back a mess. Cougars got me into yoga at the gym. Ten years now made all the difference. Flexibility. Balance. Strength. Doesn’t happen overnight. Most people start. Then give up. Next to cycling it’s the most important for me to stay in moto shape. Plus. It doesn’t hurt to continually see the new crops of young chics in classes. In every contorted position. Hard to endure. Sometimes.

Lazy mans bandaid. A good diet and intelligent workout plan will cure all. Unfortunately, lazy people will not do the work themselves.
Whoa.

You just called Ricky Fowler lazy as well as all the pro SX riders who use them. Then there are the world class bicycle racers who use them.

Factory Yamaha back in the day had a chiro at the races.

Perhaps you need to be careful on who you call lazy.

I have done cryo therapy, float therapy (deprivation tank), chiro, yoga, and massages. Massages are most effective for me, but I workout a lot and my muscles stay tense. It hurts so bad, but then I feel great afterwards

Me and mike saw our chiropractor every day up in the high desert and once I stopped going in my back started hurting from being sore. So yes I highly recommend finding a good sports chiropractor that works with athletes.

A lot of the guys we race with will drive from Temecula and the inland empire to see Dr. Stine because of his ability to help athletes get the most out of themselves. When we would go to important races we would fly him in and I feel he even helped get rid of little things like arm pump and stress. You just need to find a place that works with athletes since we can take the intense adjustments unlike regular people that may be sensitive or scared of the process. Make sure they have the light or laser machine (u won’t feel anything) to break down scar tissue while your hooked up to the tense machine. The light/laser is good to move around on old injuries like my wrist that gets tight or stiff and the machines also have a pad (like a heating pad u lay on in bed) you can lay on. Laser you can’t feel, the tense units with pads you will feel shocking the muscle the higher you put the level.
Those lasers can do miracles!

I used them in my 30s. Even let them them do the neck thing. Ya, felt pretty good.

Fast forward to my 40s, over the bars at speed chasing a plastic trophy in the senior class, I got over the concussion. But my lower back from then on was iffy.

Fast forward to my mid 50s, heavy lifting at work would sometimes have me flipping like a fish on the floor at night. Then my one hip joint started hurting.
Then pain down the outside of my leg, sometimes all the way to my foot. Rest helped, but hey, I'm self employed. Produce or starve.

Doctor after Doctor, they were worthless.
Finally went to this ciro. He xrayed me, said he could straighten me right out.

Motherfucker almost paralyzed me from the waist down. I still want to stop by his office and punch him in the face sometimes.

After a week in bed, I got an mri.

Crushed l4, with disc fragments in the spinal canal squeezing the cord to like the size of a piece of spaghetti.

Microdisectomy (sp?) 10 years ago, I can and do still work. I just don't do heavy lift. I refuse. Let the young guys do it.

Long story short, if it's just mild aches and pain, ya, maybe use one. I would still advise not letting them do the neck thing. I don't care what they say, it's dangerous.

Anything more, get an MRI. It's the only way to really see what's going on.

Good luck dude.

Why do NFL teams not allow their players to use chiropractics?

I mean he’s right. Chiropractors practice way beyond their scope. For so many treatments not backed by peer-reviewed literature many are quacks. For back pain that is for sure not a slipped disk or herniation, diagnosed by a board certified radiologist, yes chiropractors can help. There’s a reason there isn’t a chiropractor on the asterisk medical team.

Team Honda hired one in the 80s because theyre quacks.. NFL football teams have them. ive been to some quacks and ive had a really good one for 20 years that worked on my ankles, and Ribs, besides back. No way I could race moto past 35 without a chiro. Now 48 and I couldnt race bicycles without a chiro. I get a "Rib that pops out", that hampers my max lung function big time. only noticeable approaching max heart rate. feel like im gonna pass out once heart rate hits 175, when i normally race at 175-180.. If i dont see the guy I have to go super easy. Mentioned it to my dr, was hoping to get the heart/lungs checked out and he says yep, sounds like a rib/chiro problem, your in great shape. give this chiro a call. (mine is retired and moved an hour away).

Same story. I’ve been to my guy on two separate occasions, 12yrs apart. The first time he got everything squared away in two sessions and got me into stretching on a regular basis. I hit him up again a couple months ago after a pretty good get-off which resulted in a tweaked back that wasn’t getting better after a month. It took 3 sessions over the course of a week but I’m back to good again.

Middle back between the shoulders was tight and I could't get it to move myself. Went to the chiro and I was loosened up. For some, it works, for others, theres a different problem at work. Doesn't take much to throw your back out of whack. I have wadded it up on jumps and what not. Extremely sore and stiff for weeks. It works for me. Thats the only person I have to justify it to.

You certainly make a compelling and articulate argument.

If I may take some liberty without coming across as overbearing and critique your point on one minor issue.

It may just be me but I am having some difficulty in interpeting which side of the discussion you feel is least credible.

Or perhaps I am failing to understand your statement is a brush with much broader strokes.

Are you intending to make a point on the futility of man and the struggle against all the forces aligned against mankind in general?

As I prepare to take leave of this forum to enjoy some quiet contemplation of the far reaching implications, and applications, of your statement I feel I would fail you and all my fellow vital drivers if I didn't take an opportunity to make you aware of the guidelines here on vitalmx.

I’ve seen 4 chiropractors between the age of 18-50. All have helped, to a degree. One was an absolute miracle worker. He never used all the fancy equipment, just basic adjustment. Saw him for about a year on monthly visits, then he up and moved his practice out of state. Never found another like him. The spinal decompression traction was very helpful, but I haven’t been to a chiro for several years now, and while I still feel stiff and a tad off, I mostly manage myself with 5 minute stints on my inversion table.

Try Yoga. I was have pain issues until I incorporated a few yoga poses into my daily stretching routine. I get same feeling of relief every night when I’m done that I used to get following a chiropractor visit.

It’s true there are quacks in every professional field.

It doesn’t discount the whole profession of chiropractic medicine!

Now if the question is: is muscle therapy and chiropractic therapy best used together in a combination for relief and peak performance? Absolutely! But most people can’t afford both.

Was involved in a car accident a few yrs. ago that hammered my back. A good friend who believes in them suggested I go get some treatment by one. Long story short it was like a 6 month therapy session that did help me out.
My thoughts were that it was ok since that particular chiropractor wasn’t that good & was also very shady. I’d probably use one again if I can find a decent one.

No offense to your dad (I don't know him and I'm assuming he is a good man), but most actual "doctors" do very little to help people other than bring them in and prescribe pills and send them on their way - or in the case of orthopedic surgeons recommend ___ fill in the blank joint replacement. Ya, they have more schooling than Chiropractors and are more educated in medical practice for sure. But I've had far better luck with chiropractors helping me than I have actual "doctors". I go to both doctors and a chiropractor. I see value in working with both, especially with a quality massage therapist at the chiropractor. The combination of deep tissue work, spine alignment, and some strength building exercises has really helped me out - much better than here pop this pill for the next 20 years. And then contrast that to an orthopedic surgeon that told me a needed total knee replacement.....4 years ago......and now I still have the same knee & doing just fine. Had a surgeon recently tell me I need hip replacement. Hip seems to be doing just fine now after getting a lot of work done at the Chiropractor combined with a massage therapist. I know there are some quack Chiropractors out there, but there's a hellava lot of quack Drs out there too.
Also no offense to anyone but when I broke my neck the doctors, other than prescribing pain and nerve meds and sending me to physical therapy really didn't do anything. The physical therapy was pretty much a joke and after I thought I could never ride again I went to a recommended chiropractor who rides and races Moto. He looked at my Xrays and put together a plan that included a physical trainer. I was riding in three months but it did take about two years to get to a point where my other muscles compensated for the ones that will probably never work the way they did before the crash. Having said that, I have had a distrust of chiropractors and have been to some quacks so I was truly impressed when I found one that knows what he is doing and one I can trust. My experience with Doctors is about the same... most are quacks and should have never been given licenses.

I never thought much of them until two broken backs and a mildly broken neck caught up with me in my mid 30s.

Local 'sports chiro' has really helped. He has done more for me than any PCP. My local chiro got the referral for an MRI that found my Digenerative Discs and has helped me created a plan for better living to stave off surgery.

He also tells me, "you dont need to come back twice a week for the next 4 months. Call me if you feel something happening."

I have used both chiropractor and massage therapy. I have a very stiff lower back and a neck that is weak. When searching for both I asked a lot of people who to use. My chiropractor I have now actually has a medical degree from one of the best medical schools in Canada and has worked for two AHL Hockey teams, this made me very comfortable knowing I was going to a person that understood I was active and my body regularly takes a beating. It is also a great plus that he rides moto and mountain bikes so we have both gotten out a few times together. As for massage I really don’t see much benefit from it. It feels great at the time but when I leave I feel the same as when I got there. In my opinion do your homework find a good chiropractor and stick with it.

When I was 10 years old I dived into our pool and hit my head on the bottom. I was lucky I only ended up with a very dislocated neck and not in a wheelchair. I went and saw an oesteopath and after 2 visits my neck was kind of back to normal.

When I turned 12 I started racing moto and between that, bmx, footy and all the other dumb shit kids do I put a fair beating on my body but because I was in shape I never had a lot of problems.

When I quit racing at 18 I let myself go a bit, started drinking and partying and my back and neck issues started to surface. I would see chiro's occasionally when I would feel out and that would work until I did something else to hurt myself

When I was in my late teens/early 20's I was having back and neck issues. Went to a chiro who convinced me I needed to see him twice a week for 12 weeks and he would fix me. After 14 weeks I told him he was a waste of money.

After that I started getting in shape and looking after myself better. I'm now 35 and feel better and am in better shape than when I was 23. I still go to a chiro when I need to, the other day I was lifting one of my tool boxes, twisted and bent the wrong way and felt my back go out. After 3 weeks of trying to stretch it myself I went to my chiro and walked out feeling great.

The key for me is being in good shape and using a chiro to fix some injuries relating to what they do.

One thing I have noticed is that around 3-4 days after seeing a chiro I feel like shit. Everything aches, I just have to push through those couple of days and then I'm good. I swear that is how chiro's get people to keep coming back

My body is and has been pretty out of whack for a while now due to some bad crashes years ago. Went through a few chiropractors and finally found good one. It’s amazing at how much better I feel after a visit. I will also agree that stretching seems to help and has been a good substitute when I can’t get to the chiropractor.

Finding a good one is key. I'm 53, have history of back problems, fractured my t3,4,5 in 85' racing, and do not subscribe to the notion of "gradually being put back into alignment. That's just a painful way of stringing along your inurance, wallett, and pain threshold. Glad my Dad turned me onto my chiropractor of the last 25 years, guy is amazing, and typically one trip does it. Sure wish I'd started with this guy 15 years earlier!
