Instead, I was the best delivery driver there, kept my truck spotless and changed the oil myself. You speak as though having bipolar disorder is a choice.

Ignorance is more a choice than brain chemistry.

This story has BS written all over it.

The LiveWire isn’t in all stores yet. It’s a brand new model that the “core” Harley buyer doesn’t even know about. It’s going to take time.

I work in IT and 100% will have one someday. If Harley wants to be relevant in the future the IronE(Stacyc) and LiveWire are the future.

This is the Model S of the motorcycle world. It’s rare, cutting edge, and expensive as hell. Wait a few years for the Camery version to come out for the masses.

Thats why you're successful now I'm guessing. My dad told me "if you don't work hard when you're young......you'll work hard when your old...." I'm starting to wonder when I'm gonna be too old to work hard??Tongue

How do they think Harley riders will be able to attract attention at stop lights when they can’t rev their bikes?

The only niche in motorcycling that has seen any growth in recent years is adventure bikes.

Harley's attempt at that market is as laughable as their e-bike.
Yep, it's just disgusting looking - though, perhaps it could be saved by a better tank and top / front fairing :

.

Now, the Big ADV bikes made by most manufacturers, when you get 'real', look ridiculous, by their very nature. But HDs Pan America is just the worst.

Their Indian (might be made in Thailand, too?) side - where they produce the XG500 and XG750 - but not those that they sell in the US........... made a, by the weirdo ADV look 'norm', a much better looking ADV than the proto PA:
Hell, if they have half a brain, they'd bring out this 750 - made in India / Thailand / wherever , it could be affordable, and, there's becoming quite the market for 'mid' capacity ADVs.

This bike may send the USS Harley Davidson beneath the waves.
Will the company ever rebound from this colossal mistake? Probably, eventually, but it will take a long time, and be a very rough ride for them.
The first time I saw a ride report on this bike, I would have immediately sold any stock I had in Harley.

I see three problems.

1). Harley is known for loud bikes

2). Price is too fucking high

3). Range is about 1/3-1/2 of what it needs to be

This 27yo millennial now making $120k+ a year as a machinist specialist who started at $8.00/hr 10 years ago has zero plans to buy a $30k electric Harley with any of his money.

Harley's attempt at that market is as laughable as their e-bike.
There is another attempt on the way.

The majority of my employees are millennial aged. They work in a climate controlled warehouse, making $13-$16/hr with full benefits. Every one of them is out of vacation 2 months after receiving their yearly accrual which has forced us to go to a monthly accrual. 3 out of 5 will be late for work on any given day. They all bitch about not making enough money yet will go home early on slow days instead of staying and doing work (cleaning) that they don’t want to do. Not one of them will go the extra mile to prove that they have leadership ability which could net them a couple dollars more per hour and don’t even mention the word overtime. I had one guy go to the ER before work on a sat morning just to prove that he was too sick to come to work. He was seen later that afternoon by a co-worker playing in a softball tournament.
These people have ZERO interest in a battery powered motorcycle. The only thing they care about is their new phone and who posted what on FB.
We work outside. All of my staff are millennials.
I don’t pay less than $20/hr.

I don’t have the problems you speak of. If someone is a problem I can their ass.

Pay your staff better. Keep and reward the good ones and fire the shit heads.

Problem solved and no charge for the advice. And don’t give us the Bs About not affording it. My company picks up dog shit for a living. Bottom of the barrel.

i've probably seen this post at least 10 times while clicking through this thread, that pic makes me laugh every single time Grinning

ps, not everyone that has a harley wears assless chaps, has loud exhaust, dresses like a pirate, etc... some people just like a cruiser for what it is and don't play into the stereotype.

As a 25 year old millennial, i can say that article is just aiding in making excuses to not work.

Most “mental health” diagnoses are self diagnosed. Want to know how many people within 5 years of my age claim to have depression? Seemingly all of them.

Theres an epidemic of girls on facebook and instagram borderline bragging about having depression or bipolar issues as if its a good thing.

People my age seem to want to take a pill to fix their problems or use as a scape goat instead of improve their own disciplinary skills
As a 25 year old millennial, I agree with you 100%. Our generation tends to look for excuses and then are aided by this radical increase in anxiety and depression. It’s sad.
I have a kid that works for me that is 18 and is “depressed” to the point that his friends think he needs depression meds. Let me tell ya, I see the kid every day and I even took him to lunch just to ask what is going on. It’s all just life. The problem is, most people our age and younger have been babied their entire life and when they are forced into the real world, it’s a smack in the face to them.

Quote from the article. That range is a joke.

Ok yea thats terrible. Thats not even a 2 hour ride.

Whoever pushed this at harley is an idiot.
Two hour ride, most Harley riders ride 25 minutes to the local bar, then sit and talk about being a biker.

I think Harley knows their riders pretty well. 90 mile range is pretty good for 70% of their customers. If they can use the Tesla Ego Booster recharge stations thats even a bigger poser bonus.

I love combustion engines but electric motors are superior in terms of power delivery characteristics and the maintenance aspects would be much easier (no filters, oil, etc.). And as nice as it is to listen to a good exhaust, being much quieter will allow so many more riding opportunities. Currently though the battery technology is not where it needs to be to allow for anything more than limited local riding.

All of that aside, nobody is buying a $30k electric motorcycle. Especially not with a 90 miles range. And especially not Harley riders who are primarily buying an image and not a motorcycle. I personally will be happy to watch them go out of business. Maybe Alta can be reborn and buy their facilities as they file bankruptcy.

I've come to the conclusion both sides on the extreme end of the scale are kind of the same, and both do it. A lot of them anyway

The hardcore Harley guy disses the rice burner, duck billed dirt bikers, with the polka dot gear. The ET3 wanna be set fixate on the oil leaking, no performing, costume wearing, Orange and Black crowd.

This, being probably the most extreme motocross site out there, is gonna reflect that. Just as a copy of Iron Horse magazine will, only the other way around.
They are like oil and water, very rarely mixing.

Motorcycling.

A pretty big industry, made from a bunch of territorial tribes.
