Laguna Seca MX - While I was stationed in Monterey, CA with the U.S. Coast Guard. I used to practice at this track. Last time I rode there was 1998.

Never heard of it! Being from the east coast, made my first trip to luguna this summer. Where was it in relation to the road coarse?

Wow, I didn't know anything was still there. Is that part of the original track or something from the Sea Otter? Obviously that's the original gate.

Sort of, but on a larger scale and more toward the south end and main grandstands.(Toward Kart track)

When they did the moto jam and Brad Lackey Vintage race, they built the track on the far north end of road course(Top of your picture) but zoomed out more.

The road to the left of your circles is a backdoor road from lakeview highway to all the terraces they graded for extra parking. If you look at some aerials, there is a good 10 graded spots for parking they open as needed. Some grass, some bladed clean.
During the Nascar races, that place is fuckin packed.

You can see remnants of the original moto track here and there during summer when all the grass is brown and dead. Harder to see when its all green and growing from winter rains.

You can kinda see how much parking is out behind that track but no pictures really show it.

LOL, now I remember why that area looks familiar. The last time I went to Infineon for the NASCAR races we parked there, I was trying to figure out where the track was.

From a photography forum
http://northeastfoto.com/forums/showthread.php?17556-Hot-Air-Ballooning!!

Anybody know the story of who built it? Rode/raced there? It looks like a private practice track with a lot of time and effort put in to just abandon it....

You'd never know this place even existed. I can't even remember how many weekends I spent out there.

Man this thread got me to thinking about when I first started riding in 2002.

Thrill Hill MX in Gadson, Tn

Dry Hill, also in Tennessee

Burnt Hill MX in Arkansas (I believe). can't even tell a track was once there...

Clutch City MX in Humble, TX

Shocking pictures of Elsworth OT, I can't believe how fast nature's reclaimed it. I had some really great riding days and memories round there (some big old get-offs too of course). Wow, it's really depressing to see it like that.

No idea actually... I was like 8 the last time I raced there. Only remember "New Castle" unfortunately. I recall it was mostly flat and they had a big tabletop close to the finish.

I'm not a regular reader of magazines any more but I did pick up the Feb 17 issue of DBR (the only UK MX mag left) and it appears the editor Anthony Sutton reads Vital.... And wrote a piece on this thread....

Used to ride at Laguna Seca in the mid ‘90s. What was really cool was to put my CR250R in the back of my truck and tell them at the gate I was going to ride MX, only to turn right at the top of the hill and go down into the paddock to watch whoever had rented the track that day. Got to get very close to the action. Indy car tire testing, etc…

Then I would go ride my dirt bike.

If you look really closely you can still see some of the old sections of Daroga Park MX track. It used to be owned by Grady Auvil/Auvil Fruit Co. but it was sold to our local PUD many years ago to develop into a park. Part of the licensing for the dams we have on the Columbia is that the PUD has to ensure public access to the river through parks and such. They built camping spots, boat launch, etc. and then farmed it out to the state to run it. It's too bad that they don't run a track on the upper end again, with all the camping available it'd be a great spot to run a race! There'd still be plenty of space to add more camping, and not really reduce the day use functions too badly.

Is this the Elephant Butte track? I was following the Pecos River on satellite for somebody's history question and realized I was looking near Truth or Consequences. Thought I would look for a track covered in Dirt Bike around 1972 or to, and I think I even recall those two long straights to the back corner from the track map. Gene Durham showed up at Rio Bravo at the races on the day after the Astrodome short track/TT races in 1973 and acquitted himself very well.

That was a cool place but I forgot why they closed. They had a supermoto track, drag strip, MX track and probably more.
Zoning requirements. Every time they moved dirt around and set new stuff up, the city of wickernburg tried to make them ask to do it or something. Then they also had a ton of underage drinking at the glamis status parties there. Shame they got shut down though, was for sure the best track ever built in AZ.

Thank you. I grew up near there. One day my dad I drove by on a race day. I was around 8 or 9, mid-1970s. We stopped to check it out. I had no clue what motocross was. I remember standing on the hill watching my first ever gate drop. That was it. Been addicted ever since. Got a bike a couple of years later, 1981 YZ 80. Was never allowed to race though. So, I did the next best thing I could do. I would help flag on race day, water the track etc.... . Even though I never raced there, I still have some good memories.

And I see that Freelin is now closed and up for sale.

Raced at Brown City from '74-'78 good memories for sure.
Freelin seems a little expensive, I can't see someone spending that much. I think there is an ordinance that requires an ambulance on site anytime bikes are riding, which can be costly.

Someone please add Cycle World in St. Peters, MO. to the abandoned motocross track list please. Also some pictures if anyone can pull some up. I use to practice on that track about 3 or 4 years after it closed. Many great riders raced there in the mid to late 70's!! Riders such as Pierre Karsmakers; Steve Stackable, Gary Semics, Kent Howerton, Tony DiStafino, Bob "Hurricane" Hannah, Chuck Sun, Mike Bell, "Rocket" Rex Staten, and Roger DeCoster all raced there!! The place should be a motocross landmark!!

I miss the long whoop section there. The track did not have good dirt though. Very dusty and dry.
