Looked like a shoulder or collar bone injury based on how he hit the dirt.

I really hope not. Savatgy has been the most impressive 450 rookie without a doubt. He could be a legit contender next year.

Why has has everyone been saying wrist? When the medic was signaling to the Mule he was pointing to his shoulder over and over.

I’d be willing to bet either collar bone or dislocated shoulder

I read the body language of the medic to say "We gotta get this shoulder back in socket"

I didn't notice the medic pointing, just looked like he/they were holding his forearm/wrist still as he was walking to the mule.

When they brought him across the track he was holding his wrist with his arm close to the body. I was at the starting gate. When I looked over, on the mull it appeared they were trying to pop it back into place.

If nothing broken he should be back soon as strengh is back. It only gets worse more times it pops out and finally you cant ride anymore. Could also need surgery if something is damaged that will put him out fron Nationals.

You never know. ZO16 rode a whole moto after popping out his shoulder last summer and then was out for a long time.

Wear a good chest protector so your reflex is not to put the arm first on the ground, just roll and finish the race.

It has been said numerous times but everything help to reduce the injuries, otherwise let us not wear boots anymore. "Herlings broke a foot, that means boots are not protecting, so let us not wear boots" ... Laughing

Bummer because he is having a very good year, as expected !

you clearly havent broken collarbone/dislocated shoulder or broke a wrist, when you done your cbone or shoulder you need to hold your wrist like that to support your shoulder area, a wrist is usually held up to head height supported by holding your forearm/elbow area. i know ive done all 3 lol

True. You hold your wrist or elbow when your shoulder is out. And you wonder why it doesn't help!

Exactly. Those of that have grenaded a shoulder or collar bone, you support yourself by holding your arm. Keeping it level. No way it's a wrist.

Usually when a shoulder dislocates, something gets torn. Dislocated mine almost one year ago, and in doing so, tore my labrum in two places. Anything torn in shoulder can be worked thru usually for a period of tame but will ultimately need surgery. lets hope not but I would be surprised if he didn’t need surgery at some point

Agree there, I dislocated mine just from a simple fall backwards landing on my right elbow after slipping on ice. I had only a partial tear with plenty of left over ligament for a decent/solid reattachment and outcome but it was still a full seven months before I got the OK to ride again. That area (shoulder) heals very slow the surgeon said compared to other areas. Shoulder surgery is a bitch and I had to use an ice machine 24/7 to numb my shoulder.

Umm? Might wanna do some research on who Slip is. Pretty sure he's seen his fair share.

Yep. And the other part, even though it wasn't the gnarliest looking wreck, shoulders are weird in that it takes the right motion to hurt them, not always the biggest getoff. I've been through it plenty of times. If its a simple one with no other damage he can be back for outdoors st 100%.

Wearing a chest protector isn't going to change your bodies natural reaction to falling ?‍♂️

Can’t hurt. The old school chest protectors with the webbing under the shoulder pad would absolutely absorb impacts somewhat, but that seems to be a thing of the past because it’s just not cool enough for the crowd these days.

Usually hitting your elbow on the ground pops your shoulder out. Chest pads will not help.

There's ultimately no way that you can prevent a shoulder popping out when you land like that (baseball slide, diving for home plate). You'd have to ball up and risk other injury to avoid this. I knew right away when he popped back up grabbing his bicep he popped it out. It's inevitable that he either tore/ partially tore his labrum.

The shoulder is the most poorly designed joint in the human body.

True. Even with a good foam to protect the body the reflex will be to put the hand if the elbow is not protected too. Anyway they are so fast and it happens so quick that it is difficult to predict the outcome, plus we all know something we can get away from a big crash while injuring ourselves in a small one. I know it is not popular to protect too much or to learn to roll (i.e. judo), and it is not to bash any riders, it was just a though/advice to at least help to lessen the severity & frequency of injuries. I am just a fan of the riders in general so I am bummed when they get injured.
