Ok, so it’s a click-baity thread title. I DO respect Marvin’s talent and think he is one of the smoothest riders out there. I think he comes across as a genuinely nice guy, and believe that to be the case. Further, I have tremendous respect for those that leave their homes in pursuit of something greater for themselves. That being said, he is one squirmy worm when it comes to answering the tough questions, and I find it hard to like him because of that. It’s a bit ironic that Cooksey’s op-ed last week was about Marvin being so open and honest in his answers, when he has proven time and time again that he just isn’t capable of such a thing when it really matters. For the record, I couldn’t care less that homeboy is French and was yeah-no-super pumped to see Ferrandis get his win.

Whether it’s lying about letting Dungey pass him for championship points, not owning up to the aggressive pass on Tomac for a SX win, or now, denying that he saw the Red Cross flag, the guy has a problem with owning shit he does. He may give the longest-winded answers of anyone, but when pressed on things that matter, he is spineless.

Here is his IG post denying he saw the Red Cross flag. Everything I have heard thus far (podium interview and GiyB post-race interview) he mentioned just getting caught up in the heat of the moment and slowing down, but still jumping. He was FInALLY owning his mistake, so why change the story now?

Personally I think you are reading into it too much.. I think he just had a brain fart.. happens to all of us, I can’t even begin to imagine what was going through his mind heading for a win with Webb off the podium

He says in that post that he takes full responsibility, what in the fuck man.

He’s French. That’s why. He’s been a great rider and professional. I wish he’d be a little more egotistical sometimes but thats justnot who he is

Of course he takes responsibility for it - who else would? But saying he takes responsibility for it while also (now) claiming he didn’t see the flag is consistent with his past less-than-truthful answers. Simply put, I don’t believe him. He didn’t mention not seeing the flag in his earlier interviews and it looked to be a pretty obvious flag. IMO, he jumped because he was out front and his nerves got the best of him....which is basically what he said in his earlier interviews. Again, why change the narrative now?

Sorry, but I believe Marvin. Think about it for a second. It was the second lap, usually an all-out sprint, with Kenny all over his ass. I don’t think it’s impossible at all that he simply didn’t see the red cross flag until after he was already by it. He said he realized it when he looked over after the corner and didn’t know what to do. The damage was done and he likely knew he was going to get into trouble. He continued to race and let everything sort itself out later, which was the best thing he could do.

I dunno man, I've been in gnarly games or races where I didn't see much around me because of tunnel vision. I couldn't even imagine leading a 450sx and keeping composure. Not everyone has to like him or any rider so I get it if you don't dig him.

Upon seeing the photo before reading, I was certain it was going to be because it's 2019 and he's still doing heel clickers to celebrate.

I think he did, too, and I completely understand that. Again, having a bit of a brain fart is entirely consistent with his original interviews. What I have a problem with is him now saying he didn’t “realize” there was a Red Cross flag. Bullshit. And again, there is a history here.

Not the first ego around and won’t be the last. He’s on par with any other in the truth stretcher club, which includes many a famed and beloved rider.

He comes off as a total douche. He's the French Chad Reed. I do like the old school heel clickers though.

In his podium interview he came clean, said he screwed up. Props. But the above IG post is not surprising. I don't like him because he can be a weasel.

Where did he say in a post race interview that he saw it and rode through it anyways? His podium speech said he saw it in the corner after when he gapped Ken.

I think the REAL reason Marvin isn't respected as much by some is that they seem to equate truth with excuses. Just because someone explains what is going on in detail doesn't mean they are making excuses.

First guy after corner should have had a red cross flag not yellow. He sees yellow then would look to see where downed rider is first and could easily not see it in the heat of the moment.

I think that’s a valid criticism of him but most don’t like him because he’s French and because he’s different.

They then look for ways to justify that belief.

Kind of like shooting an arrow into a hay bale and painting a target around it.

I thought he said I post race that he saw Red Cross flag?? If I’m wrong fair enough.
3/25/2019 1:18am
I'd say its because of his nasty cross jumping habit

Yes this for sure, he would have won regardless. This may be a brain fart that costs him the championship...

Dude marvin does not have many fans. Pulled over for dungey and flat out lies about it, takes out eli and lies about it then gets booed at every venue all of 2018.

At least hes owning up to this one.
