Well shit. Think the price tag will hit 15 grand?
Idk, but if so there's $15k that won't be going towards my retirement. I might just keep my Alta for a spare.

Very cool. I can’t wait until we get to see it in motion, and start getting some stats/info about it. If something like this would do well it may light a fire under some of the other brands. Which would in turn be a win for us.

I haven't seen anything yet from Suzuki or Kawasaki. All the other big guys have electric bikes in the works. Especially kids bikes.

It was only a matter of time before one of the big 5 jumped into electric mx. There's just no way they'll sell the bike with all those works parts on it like that, though. Looks amazing, but that's easily a $20k motorcycle sitting on the stand.

I wonder how a performance comparison between the Alta and the Honda will stack up?

Nice scoot. Wonder if it uses the same frame as 450/250?

Funny that they have it on an electric stand that has been discontinued. (Systems powerlift). Website is still up, but out of stock for over a year,

Looks amazing and very much "production". But before we all start putting deposits down for the 2020 CR, see that it says right on the side "PROTO". It looks to be using an existing frame and plastics. Likely the frame is cut up to make the electric motor fit in, but who knows what stage of developement it is in. With the might of Honda behind this project, I'm sure it can be successful, and Honda knows the market - it won't be priced over what existing MX models are, or it won't sell. I'm sure they've watched every move and decision that Alta made....good and bad. I'll be watching this latest Honda venture with checkbook in hand!

I like how people are ignoring the fact their is clearly very little battery involved and unless they have some revolutionary battery system this bike looks like it may have a battery range less than half an Alta. But it’s able to look cool because of it.

The motor looks alot larger than the Alta. I was expecting a clutch/shifter until I saw the ADB pics.

Nickel in batteries eighth worst metal to mine and process in terms of pollution. New economic niche on the climate and guilt.

Looks pretty much prototype unit to me. Front y section of the frame and motor casings are CNC machined aluminum and I'm guessing the plastic parts are 3D printed . Judging from that there is no serial production tooling for the bike yet.

It would also weigh a ton in this iteration unless it had minimal battery life. The Alta had the motor integrated to the frame extrusions, minimal lower carriage, and fully composite back end, and was still a porker

I was initially against electric bikes but have been thinking about the positives more and more and my attitude is changing. Besides super torguey easy to ride power... No oil to change, no air filters to clean, no clogged carb jets, no flaming out in slow technical stuff, no stupid expensive pipes and radiators to destroy in a crash, no over heating, no gas to spill, no exhaust pipe burns, no noise complaints (which could result in not only more tracks staying open, but new tracks close to home), which very well could equal more new blood into the sport. How many more families would get there young kids into racing motocross if the track was 10 minutes from the house instead of 2 hours in traffic each way ? How many tracks have we lost because some dumb dumb doofus buys a house near a track and then goes on a mission to shut it down because they can hear it ? They'd have nothing to complain about. Plus the Alta's are ugly fuckers, that Honda is bitchin looking LOL.

"Clearly very little battery involved"

Just because you don't see a big, ribbed battery case like the Alta has / had, it doesn't mean there's very little battery there. Their way of packaging - Altas' - will not be the only way.

There's plenty of room under / behind / In the black forward section, and above it. Have a squizz at a KTM Freeride E sometime for where it's battery is.

But, as it says on the Bike itself : "Proto".

It certainly looks a lot more 'normal' than their first 'E' CR showing:

For those that won't check other pictures for views of (what I assume are) of the battery enclosure, here's semi close ups of either side :

Now, Alta had some very, very clever people, and they produced quite a bike, but one would think that a company(ies) like Honda / Mugen (please note: I'm no great 'fanboi' of Honda) might just be able to do some very clever 'E' trickery.

Well i have come to a right place... at least it seems like it. On my local moto-website there was almost celebration when the MotoE paddock burnt down.

Don't take me wrong i'm against massive electromobility campaign because the ammount of electricity required for road vehicles can't be suddenly produced... Although i can see myself coming back from my mx-retirement in my mid 30's and acquiring one of electro mx bikes just for fun.

Only if someone else than KTM and Honda would make those. Wink

Let the countdown begin...............

Well, it will be a while, they do sell a fair few Million ICE powered vehicles, each year. They are just "all 4 Stroke, all the time" - for the time being Whistling
